DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

the cars looked amazing, but fuck in car view. the first car he got into only had about one fifth of the screen showing the road. in car view makes no sense like that. pair it with something like the Oculus and we can talk. that camera looked utterly horrible.

i thought that was what everyone wanted from GT5 no? :).

But I am sure they will have more than one view regardless... parts of it looked stunning, other parts just better than current gen :).

GT sells like crazy so it only makes sense for Evolution to go this path. Motorstorm was nice but too off-beat for big sales.

Nice to see that Sony now have a Forza Horizon / Project Gotham Racing type of game too. Im very happy having a SIM and an arcade switching places.

I hope this game have Ferrari and Lambo license, they where missing from this first trailer.
With that level of detail in cars seems to me that it wont have many cars, it takes a lot of time to do all the cars in such level of detail, especially with the spaces between the doors, the seat belt animations and all the engine parts.

I know plenty of people like in car view, but I'm done with it until we get something that actually looks like what I really see when i'm sat in a car. If it's the only view this game has, I'm not going to touch it, and I say that as a fan of Evolution Studios, Forza Horizons and Criterions recent titles. If 2/5ths of the screen are dedicated to the roof of the car, it's kind of a waste of all that power.

I'm not impressed. No talk about how arcadey or sim-y it was, but in the gameplay they showed (whether that was live or not), you could see that it was being played with a gamepad with how the on-screen hands would twitch and jerk the wheel.

Also, their car closeups showed easily visible polygons around what should be curved surfaces like headlights. It looked roughly Forza 3-level to me.

I'll change my tune if this turns into something that actually rivals the franchise I wanted to see, which was Gran Turismo. Because I love that franchise but there are so many ways to improve on it while keeping it simulation at its core. If DriveClub's doing that, great. Otherwise, I don't think that "24/7" connected online play, whether it's synchronous or not, is a big deal. Because that's been done 50 different ways already.

Evolution made the funnest last gen console racing game for me in Motorstorm so their pedrigre alone has me interested.

Should have piggybacked on the Gran Turismo name.

Wasn't there a rumour that they wanted to do that but Polyphony turned them down? Dick move if true. So long as there's an assurance of quality and Polyphony had some input, I don't see why not. It could only help the series, Polyphony's image and Sony. And as far as I'm concerned, Evolution and/or Sony Liverpool (RIP) should've been put in charge of Gran Turismo Vita years ago.

Anyway, this looked amazing. Motorstorm wasn't really my thing, though I did kinda like Evolution's old WRC games and loved RC, but I'd definitely buy this game.

looks fun,

I want a PS4 Motorstorm though

Same.

I like racing games, so I'm naturally intrigued by this game, but I also feel like I've seen it 5 times already. The PGR games, Forza Horizon, and GRID 2 comes out in a few months. It's hard to get excited about yet another semi real racer.

Motorstorm? There isn't much else out there like that. I just wish they had stuck to the look and vibe of the first one. I never liked the sequels as much. It's a shame too, as I believe they could have finally achieved that CGI trailer of the first Motorstorm on this new hardware.

Even the name kinda just screams "meh". Drive Club? There wasn't a more interesting option available?

will it at least have some shitty cars that I know?

At least have some cars that have stick shift. If they gonna sell awesome cockpit view, go away from boring paddle shifters.

Seems like this game is getting the least amount of love from GAF. It's understandable -- they should have shown some uncut gameplay with weather effects. I really do believe they should have borrowed the GT brand. I was hoping for an arcade racer -- but I'm sure someone else will deliver on that.

I hope there's only cockpit view. Since this is supposed to be a proper racing club sim and you dont drive real cars from the outside.

I was thinking. If this is first person view, would turning your head to the left just make your head view go to the left and not the whole screen? That would be cool.

I really like the concepts of this game and hope Evolution can deliver. Seriously needs bumper cam option though. I can't race without it and especially not in a competitive setting.

More like the first Forza imo. That was initial Xbox level at best.

PS4 gets car porn and GT is not even announced yet...amazing.

I get a very PGR vibe to this, will definitely be Sony's arcadey franchise. This should do better critically and in sales than Motorstorm which is good for Evolution.

PD should DEFINITELY share those models with Evolution, they are doing a fantastic work with it and the cars they are using are licensed. Share car/track models, work on physics and other game stuff and WWS, consumers, everyone wins.

EDIT: Needs to support G27 and that wheel move thing that Sony made, but G27 for sure.

Sadly, this game screams "deja vu" and we don't need more in-between sim and arcade racers. Seriously, is that all they can do nowadays except Grand Turismo??

What i really don't like is the modelling. What were they thinking showing those lights?? They could have been much much better. I think it's one of the things on which pcars is still miles ahead. Other than that...simply awesome!

Sort of disappointed. The game looks great, but it seems too similar to GT and this means Evo will not be making a new MotorStorm any time remotely soon.

Rubbish, GT has been in a compromised position for a while.

GT5 Prologue introduced a split Standard/Professional physics model that was replaced in GT5 with the Skid Recovery Force option. While the game needs to be accessible to Dualshock players it also needs to continually evolve to keep the more hardcore interested.

Having a lighter first party alternative could allow PD to pursue a more thorough experience. The differing approaches provide options, and lets Sony capture an even greater spread of gamers including those turned off from GT because it's too difficult.

I'm intrigued - but I fear that the game won't allow you to enjoy it if you only want play solo.
Have they mentioned if it might be open world?

I think it looks great, but what will make or break it are the physics/controls. Otherwise, it reminds me a little of Test Drive Unlimited... wonder if it's open-world.

I'm liking what I see but these type of games aren't really my thing. I actually never bothered trying them. Maybe it's time to jump in.

Is this a arcade racer or simulation racer. It reminds me too much of GT. Sony should really get their developers to make more different types of games for variety. The team based features in Drive Club could have easily been new features in the next GT. Evolution should have continued to make a more different racer like MotorStorm or a futuristic weapon based racer like WipeOut but with cars. Or even help out getting GT out faster. Having GT and this game is kind of pointless.

So, there isn't a solo/single player mode?

I'm not a social drive with friends type of person so if it is, then i'll be out..

To me this game looks to be more arcadey than GT. All we have seen are streets so far. Not a track in site.
I would love to have GT physics in a street racing game but I doubt that will happen since the generally population would probably expect a more accessible driving model.

Take an exclusive look: this is the very first and non-photoshopped screenshot taken from the CLA 45 AMG as featured in an early version of Driveclub™, the pioneering racing game for the brand new PlayStation 4 presented by Sony Computer Entertainment yesterday in New York.

Yup. The whole "team racing" idea just sounds like such an uninspired sales pitch for a racing game. Most racing games have that as a part of the multiplayer. Why is a game being built around that idea worthy of attention?

It's just bumming me out that I might never get to see a Motorstorm on this hardware.
