"Just" color? That's a pretty big feature right there. And there's the design change from GB->GBC.zigg said:Kinda, but Game Boy Color didn't have extra features--it was just a color screen and some specs bumped.
Exactly, especially since they haven't even talked about DSi retail games yet.Guled said:so its more like a Gameboy color then?

In addition to downloadable games, Nintendo DSi is able to play games made specifically for the system and sold at retail.
Oh, I will be listening.cw_sasuke said:Iwata GDC....
Anything I can't do on my DSL would be a plus for the DSi. My DSL is still in great shape, so I really need some good reasons to upgrade, especially with the higher price.jjasper said:Yeah that is what is kinda holding me back. If I am going to spend the extra money I need to know it will be worth it. Really though all they need to tell me is they are going to do like Sony does and allow me to move my VC games and their save files back and forth between my DS and Wii and I will be sold.
I mean they haven't talked about the actual software yet, DSi launched in Japan all the way back in November and they haven't shown a single retail game that won't work on previous DS models yet. This isn't like Wii at all, the Wii completely replaced GCN the moment it launched.zigg said:Nintendo PR:
Honestly, explain this one... how can you a.) stand the dated appearance and b.) stand the dark screen. I am very, very curious as to why you 'love it.'El_TigroX said:Me too.I love it... people make fun of me, but I love it.

Stop living in the past. You don't need to even consider a DSi until they actually start making DSi only games and then they make one that you are interested in. Even then, if you're so worried about money and don't want to sell some old games to subsidize your purchase, wait and buy the game when you have enough money to buy a DSi.diffusionx said:Thats some bullshit. I understand what you're saying, but superfluous features doesn't make it more like Wii than GBC. DSi isn't completely replacing the DS like Wii did GCN and that's the point that should be sent across, all future retail games that we know of for the DS at this point can be played on all models. Don't confuse people, the original poster wanted to know if this was like GB/GBC in the sense that DSi will be getting retail games in the future that won't play on the DS but there aren't any announced at the moment so that's exactly the right idea.zigg said:Well, no, they're not positioning it like Wii at all. I've said as much. They're positioning it like a continuation of the DS line, so as not to burn the DS bridge too quickly. No such issue with GameCube, which was dying on its own. That's my theory, at least.
But hardware-wise, it has new features. That's what I'm saying here. Apart from the spec bumps that Wii, DSi, and GBC all enjoy, GBC had only the color screen as a differentiator, while Wii had the remote, Wi-Fi, SD, storage, and WiiWare and DSi has the cameras, SD, storage, and DSiWare to set it apart.
JKBii said:MP3 support is a big deal to me. I understand this has SD compatibility and I'd like to just move some or all of my library to some kind of storage on the DS to use it like an iPod. Is this possible? Does the DSi have storage? Does it have MP3 support or is it still just AAC only?
Calcaneus said:So, I don't have a DS at the moment (yeah, I know), would it be better for me to get a DSi or just go ahead and grab a DS Lite now?
Gamecocks625 said:AAC only. No big deal since you can easily convert your MP3s in iTunes.
Yes, according to the PR, you can transfer your music onto a SD card and listen on your DSi even with the lid closed. The DSi does have internal storage, but if you want to listen to your music files, I think they play from the SD card slot. Someone else with a Japanese DSi would need to confirm, though.
Excellent if true. I never got into portable music players so this is a great investment for me. My first all-in-one device.Gamecocks625 said:AAC only. No big deal since you can easily convert your MP3s in iTunes.

As far as colors go, in that picture the Blue doesn't look nearly as nice as the black. But most handheld colors look much better in real life.
Wow, that may cancel out what I just said. Is there a shuffle function or playlist capabilities or do I have to open the DS every 4 minutes to listen to a new song?VOOK said:You can play it from either, but it is only a small memory, no point copying it to the DSi when you can put a 4gig SD card in there (or bigger and SDHC).
And you can play it with the lid shut, but there is no controls - the L and R buttons put sound effects over, so it's useless as a MP3 player in your pocket etc.
Gamecocks625 said:Grab the hot dogs and chili, and I'll have to join you. ...in spirit of course.
JKBii said:If I was in that position I'd buy a DS Lite and use the rest of the money for games, but if you've gone this far without getting into the DS you may want to just wait a month and a half.

Funnily enough the GBC also had a boost in the CPU and more memory areas just like the DS -> DSi, but I didn't want to pick on that.buffi said:Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Game Boy Color introduce infrared wireless multiplayer as well?

Yeah, there's a shuffle function. And you can also select a single folder to play every song in that folder.JKBii said:Is there a shuffle function or playlist capabilities or do I have to open the DS every 4 minutes to listen to a new song?
