DSi North American Launch Date: April 5th, 2009

i'm pretty stoked b/c i'm going to give my dsi to my wife and you know what that means: MULTIPLAYER NY TIMES CROSSWORDS ACTION

hell yeah

NY Times Crosswords is too hard for my European, non-English-as-first-language-speaking self (like I know who the State Senators are). Nintendo Crosswords on the other hand is way too easy (although I haven't tried the harder difficulties because it takes ages to unlock them).

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Game Boy Color introduce infrared wireless multiplayer as well?

edit: Yup:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gameboy_Color#Specifications

From that Wiki entry:

Wikipedia said:
Color palettes used for original Game Boy games
When playing an original Game Boy game on a later system, the user can choose which color palette is used. This is achieved by pressing certain button combinations, namely either A or B (or neither) and a direction key while the Game Boy logo is displayed on the screen.

Key combination Palette - Key combination Palette - Key combination Palette
Up Brown - Up + A Red Up + B - Dark brown
Down Pastel mix - Down + A - Orange Down + B Yellow
Left Blue - Left + A Dark blue - Left + B Monochrome
Right Green - Right + A Dark green - Right + B Inverted

What the shit I only knew about four colours I didn't know there were more. D=

I bet you can probably handle most of the Monday crosswords. Thankfully the set is huge so you can focus on only the Monday crosswords and still get your money's worth. The difficulty certainly ramps up though.

thx VOOK and cw_sasuke
this is awesome. I'll put my 4 or 8GB card there to hold all the DSiwares possible.

it's time for Wii to read SDHC :s

So I'm sure this has been answered a million times, but WPA only works for new DSi specific software, right? Not legacy DS software?

Anyway, I still have a launch DS Phat so I think this will finally make me upgrade.

Yeah, there's a shuffle function. And you can also select a single folder to play every song in that folder.

And there's a sortof playlist function available as well, you can tag songs and play all songs with a given tag.
I think that's fine. I am sold.

You can store DSiWare on the SD card, but like the Wii it won't read from it.

Yes but you will need to open it to skip, stop, play pause etc. Volume is on the keys outside.

Yep, DSiWare, Browser, Shop etc and it's always on.

That's it I am doing a JUMBO FAQ on this thing :D

I won't be upgrading because A) I just bought my first DS Lite and B) I'm in love with all the cheap GBA games of the world. I'll keep my i on it though...

$20 too much.
Will get it if DSi Ware rocks (unlikely) or when a good number of DSi exclusive retail games start to come out (will probably take a year or two).

It's a sizable spec bump, so it's not just a DS with other stuff grafted on top of it.

Please, allow me to be an idiot for a moment GAF, but how does a spec bump really matter at launch, or even for something like a year after? I assume most developers are going to continue making games that will work on both types of DS, and any game that is DSi specific isn't going to really be all that great for a while due to development time.

Is the spec bump merely for music playback, and photo editing? It can't be for anything related to gaming as far as I can tell (I've never had a problem with speed or performance of games on my Lite).

There really are Gaffers looking forward to this? O_o Man, I'm happy with my DS Lite and I feel Nintendo is really milking the DS brand. I'm going to save my money for some games instead. :P

I don't have a ds.

we need to transfer the DSiWare to DSi's internal memory in order to play them, like the Wii? .................

Yep, it's pretty quick and I've got like 12 DSiWare games installed at the moment.

I'm still not quite sold on it, and unfortunately the price is too high for me to buy it anyway. Now I gotta wait and see if I can justify the purchase. All it'll really take for me is putting GB/GBC/GBA/GG/LYNX, etc. games on the DSiWare store to make up for not only the lack of a GBA port but the lack of GB backwards compatibility all DSes have had.

Then again, I thought the original DS was a silly idea and laughed it off. Then I played a display model in a Target store and had one within a month. I'll probably cave to the hype as the release nears. I always fucking do.

ohhhh
and I assume the DSiwares that I dl from one particular DSi will not work on other DSi machine, right? just like the Wii.

DSiware is the main reason for me getting the DSi ;)

Is the DSi gonna be region locked for DS games? Anyone with a DSi confirm they can play US/PAL/JAP DS games on their system.

Sweet. Nice date, better price than I expected.

Blue on day one sounds like my plan.

I wonder when GameStop will start taking reserves in-store. Today?

This is definitely a no-buy for me and probably for most who already have a DSLite or a PSP. But if you don't have either one then I would think this would be a real good purchase. (although who doesn't own a PSP or DSLite by this point?)

Has there ever been a major handheld/console that was released in Europe before it was released in North America?

So 169.99 EUR and only black? Time for rumors!

hell yeah my ds got stolen last summer but I still have the games.

It's been real tough not buying a lite but thank god I waited.

Some of my tax refund will go to giving nintendo even more monies.

I'll buy this when the exclusive titles start rolling in. Are any of the DSiWare titles noticeably better looking than a standard DS game?

I wasn't adding a value judgment in there, merely asking the question of whether this was something new or just "another DS." Given that the press release confirms DSi-only retail software (in addition to DSiware), surely those games will find a use for the additional horsepower.

So what awesome games are on DSiware ? And what awesome games are using the camera ?

I feel ashamed because I already asked in another thread and never found it again to see if it had been answered ;_;

I like all the ART STYLE / bit generation games
there are some new ART STYLE DSiWares already released in JP.

Who am I kidding...

If GameStop/EB/whatever offers a good trade-in for the original DS Lite, I'll probably crack and upgrade to the blue.

Is this actually going to happen? Is it likely at all?

At some point there will be "only DSi" games but I really doubt they will ever be the majority. Orginal DS/lite has far too big installbase to any publisher to ignore. But there will be games that require camera or some other only DSi functions and they will end up being only for dsi.

I'm surprised they even tried to allude to it in the PR; at best I was assuming "backwards compatible" type carts like on the GB Color that don't bring anything new to the table but camera support.

If Nintendo does start announcing DSi-only titles, well, then DSi really is DS2 and Nintendo has found some reason to start accelerating the demise of the original DS platform. I have to imagine we will hear Iwata/Reggie speak on that subject first if true.

I would really like to see a DSi only games if the new hardware makes any noticeable improvement. Until then I think I will continue to use my ds lite launch unit. My luck these will be a scarce when actually beneficial software launches.

I can't believe people still using a DS Phat. It's not a small difference and you are really missing out not using a DS Lite (or DSi), it's like all your games are new again.

DSWare among others makes me want a DSi.. would be my 4th DS :lol (1 Phat, 2 DS Lites because one got stolen).

To bad there is no glossy white color, will probably wait untill DSWare has enough awesome games (hopefully western 3rd party developers will step up, unlike how they did with retail DS games).

So with taxes and all up here in Canada,it should be close to 250 bucks....i'll stick with my DS LITE and PSP for now thank you very much ;P

Nintendo releasing DSi only games is completely retarded IMO. But, my main worry is that this is what it will come to, having invested a couple thousand dollars into DS Lites and games, and having no interest in the DSi, completely scares the crap out of me.

Maybe I'm overreacting?

they don't need to go all-out and piss off dsl owners but having say the next 2d mario title be dsi exclusive and take advantage of the dsi's abilities would be a great treat for dsi owners as well as good incentive to people to upgrade. ds still has an INSANE back cataglog regardless of what happens
