DSi North American Launch Date: April 5th, 2009

UGH! Can't play games from the SD card?

Ok, so I read above you have to transfer them to internal memory.
Where are the saves stored? In the game rom, or in a seperate space on the internal memory?

Any news if its gonna have some VC support, i mean you buy the games via the Wii ( up to Snes/gen/pcfx and gba) and the transfer them to the Dsi. It will be awesome to play smb 3/ zelda on the go!

I might just get a GB Micro when I get the DSi, but I won't be getting the DSi until I get broadband again (which will probably be another 6 months).

If this happens, it will likely be a portable VC. So you'll be playing SMB3/Zelda on the go, but it will be Super Mario Advance 4, and Link's Awakening/Oracles/Minish, which is not a terribly bad proposition.

Unless Nintendo released the GBA NES classix line on the VC as well, which would be amusing.

If the DSi where to get a Virtual Handheld Console I would literally run to the store the day it launches and buy a shitload of Nintendo Points and a DSi if I won't have one at that point.

Maybe I'm overreacting?
There is an incredible amount of DS / DS Lite owners in the world. I doubt publishers will release a majority of their new games as DSi exclusive, unless the DSi userbase will be enormous in just 1 or 2 years (which could happen).

It mostly depends on what Nintendo will do, perhaps they have their next "Brain Training" and "Nintendogs" kaliber games all in the pipeline and that they need the DSi hardware for those games to succeed. I think that publishers will follow Nintendo's lead on what they will do (also because if Nintendo should start releasing DSi exclusive games then Nintendo will do the legwork and advertising and spreading the word so that consumers will know "DSi exclusives", which would be very hard to do for 3rd party publishers I think).

they don't need to go all-out and piss off dsl owners but having say the next 2d mario title be dsi exclusive and take advantage of the dsi's abilities would be a great treat for dsi owners as well as good incentive to people to upgrade. ds still has an INSANE back cataglog regardless of what happens
That would force me to buy the DSi at launch.

Anyone know a site that will ship a DSi to Europe? Gamestop and Amazon are both refusing. :(

Play-Asia will I guess but they usually charge a premium and are pretty slow shippers...

Nice! Not a bad price. I wouldn't even remotely think about complaining if it were $10 lower, so it's not a big deal.

The Game Boy Color to Nintendo's DS. Can't wait.

That blue is kind of hot, but I have a feeling it will look kind of lame in real life.
SOOOOO excited about the Rhythm Heaven announcement though. I thought it was coming out this fall!

Color me completely uninterested. The DS Lite is more than enough for me.

BC is nice too!
Same here. I've already bought a DS twice, I'm not in the mood to buy it a third time.

Lucky you, DSi has BC with DS :D

Don't confuse people, the original poster wanted to know if this was like GB/GBC in the sense that DSi will be getting retail games in the future that won't play on the DS but there aren't any announced at the moment so that's exactly the right idea.

Sure, if you're only looking at retail support and are ignoring the onboard apps and DSiWare, then yes, it is rather GBC-like. The big picture is probably closer to somewhere in the middle.

Crap, that is what I get for playing games this morning rather than following this thread.

Missed out on the Amazon Blue preorder. I did preorder a black, but I was hoping for a blue as well since it is so funky bizarre.

Gotta laugh at all the folks balking at the price. It is the price of about one extra game, only. Man up or stay with the Lite. Both systems will likely be sold simultaneously for the rest of the year.

You can pre-order the Blue one on Amazon.com still. They just don't have an image of it.

Just got the Cobalt/Black DS lite over the summer to replace my launch DS lite with my Best Buy warranty so I really don't see the point in buying this one.

Because the lite is already sold at a huge profit and camera alone does not justify a 40$ higher price point.

Good thing it's got SD, onboard storage and DSiWare then! Not to mention the doubled CPU, quadrupled RAM, new sound chip, etc. that's been talked about.

What's this Rhythm Heaven everyone keeps talking about?

It's the U.S. localization of Rhythm Tengoku Gold.

Nooooooo....wait what ? Nintendo wants to make money with their hardware ? Shit.
i bet you're the type of guy who bitch about every apple product announcment, right ? how much did you pay for your shoes ? Guess what, the production costs were far below that. higher demand = higher price......easy isn't it ?

btw. Camera alone ?

- exclusive Games ( DSiWare + Retail )
- Apps and Channels
- Firmwareupdates
- WPA Support ( new Wifi Chip)
- better and louder speakers
- bigger Screen
- 2 Cams, SDHC Slot
- CPU speed doubled compared to the Lite and 4times as much ram.

Oh shit, you are correct. They must have been updating the site as I was preordering as it was saying unavailable, but now is available with a pic of the boxart:

Got a blue and a black arriving!

GBA port is overrated. I've got a nice Micro that I can pull out anytime.

I just want a smaller DS. The extra features are fluff.

They would have made money with a 149$ price point as well. But I understand them, because they want to position it as a premium DS model and a 149 price point would confuse some people.

Color me a bit shocked at the early announcement of DSi-only retail games in the press release. I guess this means they are coming sooner rather than later. GDC hype train?

I pre-ordered a blue one. Will decide whether to keep it or not depending on if I'm still employed by April. -.-

I don't even know why I don't play my DS too much but I guess I'm a sucker for gadgets.

Imho part of the success (just one factor of a great bunch though) of the DS and Wii is that Nintendo isn't confusing consumers with different versions. I'm not talking colors here, but actual different versions with different price points. So I'm not sure it's a good thing to keep the DS Lite, and add the DSi with a higher price.

I don't get it.

Its uglier, more expensive, and doesn't really do anything better.

Until the downloadable software becomes truly compelling, whats the real reason to buy over the DS lite? the screens are only a tiny bit bigger aren't they?
