DSi North American Launch Date: April 5th, 2009

I guess so. I'm still getting black model, it's just that I had my heart set on the white since that was my favorite Lite color. Heck, I'm just glad we're getting this thing in April along with Rhythm Heaven. awww yeah

EDIT: Blue Defense Force unite! :D haha.

Yeah,

I got a black one coming as well. So no loss there. I dunno, I get so many DSs that I like when they throw a curveball. My last DS was Metallic Rose which is nice but definitely part of the low-key color approach the DS line has been taking recently.

I hope they'll soon have information about the us dsiware lineup ....

So, the bumper art that play-asia has for Rhythm Heaven is legit? Looks kinda unprofessional:

There have been rumblings about this on GAF, one developer mentioned they weren't allowing DSi enhanced carts to be DS compatible, unlike the early GBColor titles.
any link by chance?

very intersting if true.

Why can't you just keep your DSL. I still have my original GBCs, GBAs, SPs, and MICROS. And I'll keep my DS PHAT and DS Lite. Why is that so hard?

It's still hard to work out how widely these cards will be used though.

Yeah, that's pretty much the big question. As a dev/pub, I'd have to be convinced pretty solidly that the DS can't handle my game or that DS market is too saturated to make a DSi-only card release at this point--and the latter case would be really hard to make as Nintendo hasn't really pushed DSi as its own platform yet.

does anyone know if new ds games either are compatable or could be made comparable with WPA or is that only gonna be for dsi/dsiware games?

They are not compatible now, and I don't see them becoming compatible. As I understand it based on researching the thing, DS games boot up in a compatibility mode that denies them access to DSi features, including the second Wi-Fi chip that has better speeds, etc. as well as WPA.

Some of us don't want or need closets full of dead systems. Besides, now that these systems all use proprietary batteries, it's not like you'll be able to pull it out in a few years and fire it up with a fresh set of AA's.

Normally I do that, but I was more than happy to trade in my original DS when the Lite was released. The original DS ranks as one of the ugliest systems Nintendo has ever released. It looked like some off brand Radio Shack would sell for $19.95 with a pack of AAs.

The Nintendo DS only truly launched once the Lite was released.

it looks really girlie though. pretty sure blue is the "girl" model even though that is contrary to the whole baby thing

A scant 256 megs built in and not being able to boot from SD cards creating a portable 'Wii fridge' effect means no sale from me.

For the record I love my DS to pieces and it is one of my top 5 platforms (Alongside the C64 and Intellivision ;) ) but I'll save my cash for DS 2.0 in 2010-11.

I'm too spoiled by Apple's app store at this point on my new Touch to handle Nintendo's 1 step forward, 2 steps back mentality these days and I also want to keep my GBA port.

I actually owned a Turquoise Phat back in the day. Guys, don't underestimated the contrast between the black highlights and the blue body...very pleasing. The new DSi is similar.

In addition to downloadable games, Nintendo DSi is able to play games made specifically for the system and sold at retail. The system can also play most Nintendo DS™ games, and will have access to a library of more than 850 titles originally made for that system.
Damn, now I have to buy it :/

At least the blue one is awesome *Starts saving money*

Are there any pictures of the blue DSI when it's open?

Will DSi branded games be playable on the DS?

I assume no because they are probably taking advantage of DSi specific features...

Yeah, I just saw it.
I'm actually warming up to it.

Oh really? I thought there's going to be DSi branded games. I was wondering if Nintendo is splitting the market with this or not.

Their press release is clear that they are intending to release DSi specific retail software. The implication is that this software will be entirely distinct from the DS catalog and from DSiWare.

I don't think it counts as 'splitting the market' any more than DSiWare does. It just enables developers another way to bring titles to users. It's not going to stop people making DS games for the 95 million units already out there until DSi games sell consistently more than DS games worldwide.

It's a transitional step.

Glad people are overwhelmingly positive about the awesome, awesome blue design.

Also, I'm certain that if some of you take a look at previous threads on what's new in the DSi, you'll buy it. It's such a no-brainer.

I think this might have been covered in another thread, but can the points I have on my Wii Shop account work on DSiWare purchases? Ive got like 4k points sittin there.

Send me money and I won't think twice about getting it.

If I could actually "upgrade" (i.e. sell my GBA for a DS, sell my DS for a DSL), I would, but I still have GBA games and I have a fancy Zelda DS Lite, so I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it.

Once something really hot shows up at retail, I'll bite. Downloadable items will be there whenever I decide to get it.

No.

Wii Points and DSi Points are distinct things, but in stores you will be able to buy 'Nintendo Points' which can be converted to either (but once converted, can't be converted elsewhere)

But can I buy points directly from the DSi, like the Wii?

no one knows none exist yet

This (which I just linked a handful of posts ago) seems pretty cut and dried, saying they won't be unless the dev makes separate DS and DSi versions.

It's not "confirmation" but a licensed developer talking about it openly gets a vote of confidence in my book.

Yeah, DSi Store lets you acquire points using a credit card.

I'm hoping they would at least let you gift points in the future though, segregating store funds is a pain.

I went ahead and preordered the matte black with Amazon and paid the $10 for 1 day shipping. No waiting in line and wasting gas seems worth it.

Also, thanks for the info Crazymoogle.
