I have a friend who has worked at a prison out here with some high profile inmates and nobody touches them. During their "outside time" they are basically in an outdoor cage by themselves for an hour. They are even picky about which guards get to interact with them. No warden wants to deal with having to explain why a high profile, well known inmate was murdered in their prison.

I'm not an expert on the federal death penalty but Timothy McVeigh was sentenced in 1995 and executed in 2001 so I believe the appeals process is shorter at the federal level.

No. Most of them are clinically sane, the whole "mental illness" thing is something the media and other armchair psychiatrists like the use as a scapegoat and to separate themselves from these killers. Because if these killers are clinically sane then...what makes them different from Joe Bob down the block? It also gives people something to blame without having to do anything about it.

Factually, those who suffer from real mental illnesses are much more likely to be the victims of violence not the perpetrators of it.
