E3 2011 Nintendo Press Conference Thread: What's in your coffee? [Over]

I'm disappointed by the Zelda 25th Anniversary whatever. It's just a branding badge for this year's Zelda releases, which were probably already in development for unrelated reasons :/

Honestly, that personally blew me away. The other conferences really felt like more of the same. Sure, the innovation WiiU is bringing to the table was predictable, but it still excites me a heck of a lot more than Kinect + shooters. Nintendo truly does have the mass appeal.

I like how everyone assumes that Nintendo HD will be so much worse than Microsoft and Sony HD.

Diminishing returns, everyone.

Pretty disappointing stuff.

Starting with the Zelda stuff at the beginning the new Skyward sword stuff looked good I am interested in it but we know about this.Since this is the 25th anniversary of Zelda I thought they really dropped the ball on the content.I got excited when they started talking soundtracks I mean why not make a nice collection give me the older games on a disc and give me a nice full CD soundtrack of all the Zelda music.

Next the Wii and where are the games? Wiiu isn't hitting till next year and they showed absolutely nothing for the Wii which was incredibly disapointing.I mean nothing more to say then that I guess

3DS again brought almost nothing new other than the stuff we know.Luigis mansion was new but it kind of looked crap and the promise of brawl but till I see it ,it is what it is. Pokedex and stuff is gimmicky and throw away.Mario 3DS looked ok I guess and Mario Kart was Mario Kart and it didn't particularly look good.Kid Icarus looked really good looks like the graphics have improved alot more from before and some nice detail.

Wii U feels like a tablet with streaming. This thing made the 3DS look irrelavent Iwata kept trying to justify the 3DS I mean I rather them put a 3d slider on the Wii U and make that portable or something.I don't see the need for this thing too many people have next gen consoles and alot have tablets it just seems meh but it is a year out so its tough to tell right now.

Overall D very underwhelming also if your gonna translate wait till the other person finishes hearing two people talk at the start was annoying.

Looks like most of my predictions came true (even Madden sort of lol). Surprised that the name was revealed, though. Still most questions still unanswered. No real news, aagh!!

The controller looks good except for the fucking CIRCLE PADS. What kind of a boneheaded move is that? Why would you want circle pads in a home console controller vs. analog sticks?!

agreed. Eventhough the circlepads are very comfortable, thumbsticks are so much better.

I proclaim the new Wii U abbreviation

wu

Of course it's a new fucking console. How daft do you have to be to assume otherwise?

Hey look this console can output HD graphics far better than the Wii. Must be the same console.

Eh, doesn't look that much better (I'm not hating, I think it loooks fine). Honestly people overrated graphics around here. Most games looks the same.

Also I guarantee you many, many people are going to be buying that controller to try to use for their original Wiis. I'm talking in the tens of thousands.

After watching Nintendo's conference and reading excitement from gamers about the controller is like a bad dream. :( So alone. So cold. lol

Gut reaction:

'Welcome to PS3/360 games with 'innovations' we haven't fully figured out ourselves yet.'

That's what the message felt like.

And the latter is the biggest surprise for me - there was no strong central message around what this controller was going to do for games. I think Nintendo's still figuring out use-cases. They focussed on convenience of remote play, video sharing, web browsing, video chat - but not actually much by way of game orientated use-cases (other than a Zelda inventory, lol). With Wii, it was immediately obvious, at least to me, what the potential was (and check the record - I gushed over it immediately). This seems like a much less obvious and incomplete picture.

On a side note, I guess it shouldn't be surprising that Nintendo can't coax third parties into a generational transition wrt content, but it leaves a big big question for me - will this stand up to the next gen, or will it be a late-game snack between Playstations and Xboxs. If I had confidence in the former I'd feel a lot more interested in this.
Pretty much how I feel at this point.

Nintendo gets a F MINUS for failing to localize Xenoblade or Last Story.

F MINUS

Dear Sony, announce PS4 next E3 before Wii U even comes out. Save console gaming.

Thanks.

Either Sony or MS will unveil their new console at next year's E3, leaving Nintendo suddenly feeling very dreamcasted.....

This how do they keep the handheld market separate from this

The flying bird demo looked better than anything I've seen on PS3/360. The resolution and textures were higher

Yeah that was nice. I'd like to see a direct feed of that soon.

It's not magic, sony just packed super power into a fucking portable for 250 bucks, their next console will smoke the ps3, where as this one so far doesn't look any better than ps3 tech wise. We need some specs.
How will the PS4 accomplish this.

Ultra HD sceens? Ten million polygons?

The PS4 and Xbox720 will look good, but it won't be as big as an SD to HD transition.

There's some interesting stuff on the press site. A few Wii games they forgot to mention: Fortune Street, which looks like a Monopoly ripoff with Mario and Dragon Quest characters (wtf?), Kirby Wii with 4-player co-op, Mario Party 9, & Rhythm Heaven. All with screenshots + video.

Can't believe the haters.

"WHERE IS THE CONSOLE!?"
Who gives a fuck? You don't play with the fucking box.

"WHERE ARE THE GAMES?!"
They just fucking announced the thing. You get tech demos and promises of developer support today, and actual games at GDC and next year's E3.

"NO SPECS OR PRICE!!"
I guess you haven't been paying attention. Nintendo wants you to focus on gameplay possibilities. Specs and price likely aren't finalized yet. Specs will undoubtedly be more powerful than the 360 and PS3, and less powerful than their successors. In case you haven't been paying attention since 2006, specs aren't Nintendo's focus, nor should they be.

"NO 3DS GAMES!!"
There was a damned sizzle reel of shit we knew was coming and assumed was coming, as well as stuff we didn't. Want game play and hands on? Show floor.

"NOTHING ABOUT THE WII!"
Again, show floor. If Nintendo had spent 1 fucking second talking about the Wii, everyone would be bitching about wasting time on shit no one cares about instead of telling you whether or not the Wii U controller comes with a wrist strap.

"NO PIKMIN!"
Can't argue with this one. I need my fucking Pikmin.

Surprisingly, Microsoft's conference had the most announcements regarding features and upgrades of the current console, so they win.

IPTV is a huge announcement. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of gouging cable/satellite prices.

Youtube is great.

New dashboard.

More Kinect support. Some of the stuff regarding kids+families was meh, but everything else like the scanning and labs were great.

Xbox cloud game saves and Beacon are welcoming awesome additions.

As for Sony, the Vita was definitely the megaton of this E3. However, I don't know if the PSV will be supported well in terms of third parties. A glance of the 3DS's was very disappointing, and I hope that doesn't mean the same. To me, I think hardcore portable gaming is coming to a close and slowly replaced by smartphone/music player gaming.

Nintendo was just disorganized and was a lot of talk rather than showing. Most of the titles shown were what we knew, and there weren't any surprises.

the flying bird demo was *realtime* and partially controllable according to Kotaku.

as is the HD Zelda demo

Bird confirmed for Smash.

lol

Actually I just wanna play the bird if its part of a demo. It's cute when it hops and thats all I'd ever need to do.

Yeah, bit of an awkward position they're in.

Not that that'll keep it from printing money.

That's Itadaki Street, then. Would be nice to see one of those in English.

so new controler is just thin client for wiiu, like psp remote play?
how expensive is it going to be?

i see the point, somewhat, it is cool if your portable play is restricted to your house, but then again why spend a lot of money on HD console and TV?

No Last Story or Xenoblade on the Press Site or Coming Soon PDF. :(

That's it. I'm done with Nintendo. Last straw. It'll be hard to ignore Devil Survivor on 3DS, but I'll manage. I will not buy another Nintendo game, console, or handheld until they announce this shit.
