Sorry but we have to call EA out for a historic failure in terms of their readiness for "next gen". We know that EA has typically been one of the major companies in a new console generation with their staple franchises such as Madden, NBA Live, Need For Speed, Battlefield, Burnout, and more available in the launch window of most previous consoles. However, this year they are a virtual no show and seem woefully unprepared. Let's recap:
- Their EA Play 2020 showcase back in July was virtually void of anything next gen. The only bits they showed looked like something you would see at a conference such as Siggraph or GDC for a vision of what the future can look like. Considering we had new consoles (and GPUs) coming out this year, there was no gameplay and nothing tangible to announce in terms of next gen titles and release dates (Dragon Age looked super early)
- Madden and Fifa are the only games currently confirmed by EA for release on next gen consoles and yet a mere 3 weeks from launch we still have not seen any gameplay or any evidence of them actually running on a PS5 or Xbox Series console
- Why is there no next gen version of their premiere holiday title Star Wars Squadrons?
- Why is there no next gen version of the recently announced Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remaster?
- Where is the next gen console update for Battlefield V with Ray-tracing support (i.e. PC version)?
- Why is there no next gen update to Apex Legends?
- Where is the next gen Sims game?
