EA teases new BioWare project [It's Mass Effect 3]

I hate that I'm such a slut for this universe. I hate what they did to it in Mass Effect 2, I hate that they ruined the music, that they made a Illium boring typical floating car future planet, I hated the clothes, I hated that the one new species were shit-eating parasitic rat things. I hate the ridiculous
human reaper
. I hate the the
Prothean collectors
were absolutely useless

And even after reading that MP FPS rumour, which is not what I want in any way, I'm still excited. What is wrong with me?

Hmm, the drell certainly weren't forgettable. Maybe they'll have different outfits next time around.

The thing with Thane is that he's a single entity, and really insular character (he's a good one though, for sure). It's not like "oh hey, Turians are awesome!", "Ha, those slimy Volus" or "Man, Quarians really messed things up with the Geth thing".

It's just hey, that's Thane. And...he's that guy. And they live with the Hanar. Whereas with the Vorcha I knew straight out that they were garbage, and thats what their species is! Still, like the Batarians, they're barely developed, but its more than what I got out of Thane.

I just replayed Lair of the Shadow Broker, and I can tell you right now, I don't care if they gut Mass Effect DA2 style. As long as I can still have the kind of conversation I just had with Liara, Mass Effect is fine by me.

It's a shame BioWare doesn't do subtlety often. Mass Effect just scream for this sort of stuff because its world is so consistent.

The Vorcha seem to be more roach based.

Unliked by everyone, tenacious, haven't evolved in forever, immune to radiation.
They remind me of mole rats with skin cancer.

I'm almost in the same boat. What I liked about ME1 wasn't necessarily the RPG elements, or even how the game played (but I do prefer the shorter cooldowns and level up variety in 1), but how it portrayed space, and alien life, and really awesome minimalist architecture. It also felt like I was in a movie. I was more easily immersed into the 'role' of Shep. The loading screens, absolutely infuriating fly-a-ship galaxy map and the mission complete screen in ME2 slapped with a stank fish and constantly reminded me I was playing a gamey thing where everything "every button I press has to equal awesome" as opposed to a really great experience.

And I feel like they won't go back to what I liked about the first. Especially if this is going to be an FPS in the same lineage as Call of Duty and other positive reinforcement shooters. It just isn't what I'd like (since I've got Bulletstorm for that!), but I still feel compelled to give them a chance because I am week willed and I loved ME1 to death.

Hey, I'm no racist! My buddies on Omega tell me they're great cheap labour. I even have a vorcha friend.

Hopefully the multiplayer will let you play as a variety of races and not just be Alliance military vs. mercs or some bullshit like that.
I'm hoping for a variety of historical battles from the Mass Effect universe such as the Geth Uprising and the First Contact War.

Actually, John Schappert founded Tiburon before he went to Microsoft and went back to EA when Microsoft decided to go Kinect crazy.

This would be cool. If it is indeed a multiplayer focused shooter, as someone else said I hope its not human vs. human (though I cant see it being that). Even as much as I'd like it to be First Contact War based, it would be nice if it included all the races as well.

How about Turian Reunification? I'd love to see their homeworld and more about how their armies operate, even the cultures that clashed.

Oh and if Systems Alliance is a faction I demand Lance Henriksen as Hackett doing the announcements!

Eh I don't know how to feel about this. I like ME, but I'm not sure it needs mp TPS spin-off. Nor do we need more damn CoD influence mp. Do something different. You aren't going to compete with the leader if you just copy it.

I'm kind of have mixed feelings about this too. I would like it to try something new with multiplayer, rather than just be a COD clone.

If it were a shooter, it would be nice if EA hit up Crytek for CryEngine 3.

It would be glorious. GLORIOUS.

By appeal to the CoD audience, I think they were referring to the level up system they talked about afterward rather than a carbon clone.

Medal of Honor is already their bet on the CoD clone front.

That is comforting news.

Imagine choosing a race/class and having battlefield sized matches. That would be awesome.

Disgusting.

Yeah, ME2 looks horrible indeed.
I'm not keen on the idea of a ME multiplayer shooter but would it really work to release a standalone mp game? doesn't seem very popular right now.

If EA gets dice to make the Multiplayer portion Battlefield Mass Effect, I'd definitely be hyped for this.

Otherwise keep that multiplayer outta my Mass Effect

Agree with everything but the
collectors
. I don't know why people hated them, I found them more interesting than
generic army of robots
.

My bets:

The story is a prequel, probably during the First Contact War, maybe the occupation of Shanxi. That's far enough back, to take humans w/ biotics out of picture, right? I imagine they'd want to avoid having to balance biotics, at all costs.

I want to shoot Batarians.

Did the incisor exist during the First Contact War? Something during the Skyllian Blitz or Torfan would be more interesting. More species and tactics in play.

I'd still like to see Garvug or one of the other CDN worlds.

Aequitas still seems like the most likely candidate.

They should make a Mass Effect universe version of Star Wars: Battlefront if they are going to make a shooter.

Loved those games and they never made a 3rd one......and yes, LOTR: Conquest was ass.......but it would be nice to see something different than "IT'S JUST LIKE CALL OF DUTY BUT IN SPACE".

I would buy a goddamn Mass Effect cooking game.

Give me a ME FPS, and I will literally fuck the hole in the DVD. GIVE IT TO ME.

Generic robot hivemind vs generic bug hivemind?

Whoever wins, we lose.

based by the books the first contact war was some long range ships vs ships little battles :(

I think there was only one major ground battle, and that was when the humans took back the Turian occupied Shanxi. Otherwise yeah, everything was orbital.

never have i been so disappointed that i didn't get to see tali in her skivvies. i skipped over tats and fake butt for the freaky alien sex only to get blue balled :(

I thought Mass Effect 2 had too much shooting. Is this a common opinion?
I'm fine with a 100% shooter spin-off if Mass Effect 3 strikes a better balance between combat, exploration, and dialog trees.

Where Bioware failed, rule 34 succeed.

No I think most people agree that both MEs have succeeded in spite of their combat. It's why the first game is better, simply b/c the core of the game isn't the combat.

This goes for lots of games. I'd argue that what makes AssCreed, Fallout, ME, and even Red Dead good are things other than their combat.

What if EA is using this spin-off as a testbed to turn Mass Effect into its CoD franchise? :(

They already have a Call of Duty franchise.

Medal of Honor just sold over a million in the October NPD.

BioWare Montreal however is a studio headed up by multiplayer central people from studios like Raven, so I'm assuming this spin off is intended to be a new sub-series like Shift is to the NFS arcade titles.

If Mass Effect ends up having a multiplayer variety game, I'm done.

Seriously, there's only so much shoe-horning multiplayer into games I can take, dudes.

That would make no sense what so ever. They put all the effort into Medal of Honor and it actually sold (over a million). It would make no sense to have two competing COD clones.

Though this wouldn't be shoe-horning, since it'd be a multiplayer focused spin-off instead of multiplayer shoe-horned into the main game.

Man, if they spin off the franchise into a third person shooter, I think WRPGs are done.

(Unless somehow Obsidian is writing that game, then it'll be the best thing ever. :p)
