Early TRICO test footage (year+ old) -- READ FIRST POST

After seeing the previous test vids for Ico and Nico, and looking at the details in the new vid, its seems pretty clear it was indeed made by the team.

But this is why we can't have nice things. A year-old test vid of a game coming out a year from now gets ripped for shit that won't matter by the time the game goes gold.

this video wasn't all that pretty... :/ Though I'll guess the real game will look, of course, better than this.

I hope they're tweaking the big guy design, but even if they don't it's day f'n one. I love some of the concepts seen there, and I can't wait to play it. The head of the big thing is incredible.
 
Just watched it again and it blows me away. Looks like a pet sim meets Ico meets SoTC. Something I noticed in the video (probably already mentioned):

At 2:50 notice how the creature keeps it's head perfectly still and straight? It seems like learned behavior like a trick. If the game is based around you as the boy freeing and going around with this creature, taking care of it and working with it, it makes sense that you could teach it different things or it would learn different things. In this instance, it seems like the barrels could be used as rewards or treats if it performs well and is helpful. Barrels could alternately be used as a food source if there's a pet-sim aspect.
 
Given that PS3 is quite alot more powerful than PS2 (a larger leap than Xbox to Xbox 360 given that PS2 was so underpowered in its graphics ability), I expect TRICO to look absolutely beautiful, in realtime trailer/cut-scene and actual gameplay.

Thank God none of this is prerendered CG, from what I can tell.

It hasnt been announced. The footage "leaked", whether it was Sony's intention or not we will not know.

The footage is 1.5 yeas old. A lot has changed since then im sure.

Hopefully they will properly unveil it at E3. I've said it before and I'll say it again. All I really need from Sony is for them to show TRICO at E3.

Are you talking just visually or the whole package? It looks still early, but if it's a year or more old that makes sense. For me, everything came together particularly well... you have the Team Ico look, well-designed if unfinished characters, beautiful music and awesome animation. Even in an early state it comes together and is quite striking.

Judging by the Nico video, which shows a colossus that didn't exist in the final game, the ratbird of Trico could be something completely different too.

Trico is not bad, but I don't really see Ueda's art style in it. It's just a sketch.

I dunno if it was shown at GDC. But I do remember it being shown on an event and in the 1UP podcast they talked about it briefly.

It has been shown though.

It's been in development for 4 years. This trailer was shown internally in early 2008.

Probably. It likely is the fabled "Secret PS3 Game" that Darren Waters from BBC wrote about at last year's GDC.

So what else was I shown? Well, I was shown a trailer for a game not due out till 2009 but was sworn to absolute secrecy. Apparently, Sony just wanted to give a glimpse of what the console will be capable of.

In fact, the game is such a secret that when I mentioned the game to Phil Harrison last week he was unsure at first whether even to admit the title existed. When I explained I had been shown it under strict Non Disclosure Agreement terms he looked relieved.

I don't mean to be a tease - all I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is "in game", as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion.

And there I'll leave it. Feel free to speculate on what I was shown. I cannot, of course, confirm or deny what it was....

Nah, the creature is obviously central to the game. The horses in the Nico reel to Agro would be a better comparison.

this test footage is the least interesting of the three imo. yet i will buy it because im sure it will be awesome
 
What in the world did I just watch? I don't know whether to be emotional at such an amazing... video or to laugh at how ridiculous the idea of a boy having a giant pet rat is? Do I shed a tear for the emotional music or laugh hysterically at again, a boy and a giant rat? Am I suppose to stand up and give a clap clap clap or laugh. I am so confused GAF, I have never been this confused by a trailer before.
 
I knew this wasnt fake after watching the video for five seconds, I think that says a lot about the talent of Ueda and his team and how his style is awesome as it is irreproducible. :D

Xbox 360 max grahpic 100% is gears of war 2.
Playstation 3 60% power is Killzone 2...
Sony killzone 2 uses 60% power only and gears of war 2 uses 100% xbox 360 power...

Uncharted grahpic is better than gears of war 2.
