EGM is coming back. For serious.

Maybe they'll stop catering to 18-24 year old Mountain Dew drinking males and acknowledge there are many other gaming types out there. Maybe then they'll sell a few copies and stay in business this time.

Oh man, I wish they could get the old band back together. I loved EGM so much because I came to know everyone at the magazine through years of reading their articles.

Cool news.

My dream mag coming back would be the old Next Generation mag though, man that was so amazing back in the old days. Super quality paper, very mature and had incredible articles month in month out.

All they need is some softcore/hardcore porn and EGM will not possibly fail.

They could be successful if they'd just stop giving away the next 25 years in free subscriptions to their core audience. I honestly don't mind paying if it helps them keep quality writers with quality content... but of course, if you give shit away I'm going to take it. I heard once, from some magazine guy talk about how the more subscribers they had, the more money it cost them (I shit you not) and the less money they made (probably due to the 1st sentence I wrote, above).

If your business model is done in a way where that is the case, you are seriously not doing it right. You should be making more money via subscription fees and ad revenue for higher readership.

:-( those were the good old days. I had that issue and remember taking it on a trip with me to Canada. Fat ass 400page issues!

Hell yeah! 100 pages of content + 300 pages of advertisments! Whoo hoo! :D

Halo Reach?! MEGATON.

I'm hoping that cover has placeholder fonts and stuff. I don't hope it's fake though, because Halo: Reach content is needed. Gears of War 3 doesn't seem likely though... =\

A local grocery store still has the last issue of EGM on the shelf! :lol Its the frickin January issue!!

I'm hoping new EGM shows up soon and, at this store at least, it will be like it was never gone!

yeah my local library still has the wolverine issue on the periodicals shelf. part of me is sad because if there were never a new issue of egm i could go back in ten years to the library and read about how great a game wolverine is going to be.

The new cover is just a mock-up, for sure, but I love where Harris is going with the re-launch. Seeing that cover layout is sending me into nostalgia overdrive. Retro chic for the win!

So now I need to read Jesus EGM, Gamepro (for John Davison) and Game Informer (in part for Phil Kollar, in part because I get it regardless). The magazine era is dead, long live the MAGAZINE!

So awesome. I hope they go back to the old 3-man 1-column review style, with some games getting full page reviews.

The last EGM layout was horrendous.

Off topic, but whatever happened to the lost final issue of EGM? Did that ever get released or is it still on some Ziff Davis hard drive?

Edit: Never mind, it looks like they'll put it up eventually.

3 man? Pfft, I'd prefer the 4-man format they originally ripped off from Famitsu.

If this is a joke, it's well played. Actually, either way I'm laughing. :lol

Actually giving away those subscriptions kept their circulation numbers up which allowed them to charge what they were charging for ads. Without that they would've had to possibly give money back to advertisers and then not be able to charge as much. So... yeah. Unfortunately there comes a point where you can't maintain, especially when advertisers moved away from print or wanted to spend less.

So has Steve managed to crack the nut? Either there is some piece to the puzzle we're missing, or this is destined for disaster.

Well it's different now. He's starting from 0. New EGM doesn't have to hit the circ numbers of old EGM (especially since he didn't buy the subscriber base off of Ziff, which IMO was probably a very good thing). They could start with a realistic rate base that's more attuned to this new era of print with a lower circ and probably be OK. I mean, Play is still around...what does that tell you?

Monocle Magazine.

- $10
- Subscriptions cost MORE than newsstand
- Massively successful
- Increasing readership

Of course judging a book by its cover this EGM seems to be going for the exact same hardcore gamer demographic and news/previews/reviews as the old EGM so it'll never have the success that Monocle is having.

Asking this question is probably going to make me look like a scrub, but the only indication of hiring I can find is on EGMNOW's twitter page, but there are no details included as to what they want potential writers to submit or requirements to be hired.

I suppose there's the usual stuff (work history, samples, etc.), but I'd hate to send along an application with extraneous information or without knowing that I'm going to be automatically disqualified in one way or another beforehand.

I just rolled the dice and sent an abridged resume, a small sample, and short cover letter. see you there man.

Interesting, but I think the market probably has all the print they need right now. It will be awful difficult to get a foothold without troubling expenses.
