EGM review scores & new rumors

Hmmm, maybe we should all just realize that E3 has a whole was a dissapointing C grade. I honestly felt that only the DS was above average while the rest were sub-par showings with the occasional bright spot.

This I agree with! Check my avatar for confirmation!

I'm kinda surpised at how varied the E3 impression have been, especially on a per-game basis. Games that some people loved got rather low marks from others, and games that most seemmed to think were dull get high marks from suprisingly high marks from some sources. Its as if their were about 10 different E3's and nobody went to the same one.

EGM's "E3 report card" seemed to have little to do with E3 and was more based on their opinion of the console's future outlook. There is just no way you can come to their conclusion by grading what was at E3. Other factors had be considered.

I'm sure bias did have some influence their grade. Gaming "journalist" are no different than the rest of us and we all have our biases, preferences, hypocrisies, and blind-eyes. It doesn't take a consperacy, just a group a fanboy's (of varying degrees) all being swayed be their natural preferences. It's how TXB is suprisingly pro-Microsoft, EGM is just more balanced.

My report card would be:

PS2 - B It had the most games that were more than just filler. Nothing super-great, but very good.

GCN - C+ Somewhat lacking, as always, but it atleast had a clear GotS contender.

Xbox - D It was pretty clear that MS as no intention of supporting that system beyond this fall.

DS - A Very strong showing, lots of interesting games, and suprised a lot of people. It was the DS E3 showing that changed the attitude towards the console on GAF; more so than japanese sales charts.

PSP - C Some interesting games, but Sony really screwed up its presentation. Absent from the press conference, scattered among everything else, and lost in the next-gen hype.

GBA - C A few interesting games, but "old-hat" among everything else, like the N64 in 2000. The GBAM showed Nintendo's commitment to the system, unlike other...

E3 - D- This one had SO MUCH potentional, but ended up so boring. I blame next-gen; we still have to wait and what was shown was rather unimpressive.

E3 on a curve - B- Every year, we hype ourselves up and let ourselves down. We have to get it through our heads... E3 2005 didn't suck; "E3 sucks!"

bull shit! MS might not want to support xbox but the third parties do! Xbox lineup is like B+; Half Life 2, Far Cry, Blazing Angels, Black, Burnout 4, Ninja Gaiden add a bunch of other third party games and you have Xbox lineup >>>>>> GC lineup

PS2 is A- because it has many exclusive games. Gamecube only has 1 good game that comes out in the winter and even that won't appeal to the non Zelda fans.

Don't short change the GC either, it has more than 1 good game. Fire Emblem, Odama, Chibi Robo and Zelda make for a solid fourway, although still a horrible show. Equally as bad as Xbox, imho. Xbox was a C-.

Correction:

My E3 observations, more valid than most because my brain is huge and my wit is vast:

PS2: A+. The PS2 is the greatest gaming console of all time, displacing the PS. This simply cannot be argued, and anyone to attempt such a ludicrous contradiction will be banned. The lion's share of new, original content is here. BUY A PS2. Now. Buy another, if you have to. If the DC had to die so that such heights of videogaming greatness could be achieved, so be it.

Xbox: D. Time for retirement, my young and portly friend. You've served us well, and now it is time to go gently into that good night.

PSP: C. Brilliant hardware can't salve a lackluster E3 showing. What was Sony thinking?

Gamecube: B-. Zelda and Fire Emblem rock. Everything else is strictly fanboy-only trash.

DS: D. Some potentially great games hobbled by inferior 1997-era hardware. Really just a waste of everyone's time and energy. New Super Mario Brothers saves it from an F.

GBA: C. Still tickin'. Keep on marchin', little soldier!

These scores are objective and indisputable. Period.

:lol May your posting days be long! I'm one of the few that welcomes your entertaining close-minded approach towards the DS, it makes for solid comedy.

Seriously, it was an odd E3. It really was one that wasn't decided on the floor, but rather by the nastiest and most rabid fanboys in internet forums.

you gave a D to the Nintendo DS. Are you fucking crazy? The DS outgammed the PSP in every shape and form at this year's E3. It was SYSTEM of the Show.

Shitty 1997-era hardware without texture filtering and decent alpha channel support running at 320x240 in FUCKING 2005 can NEVER be a "System of the Show".

The system of the show was the PS2, as it has been every year since 2002. The runner-up is the PSP for being actual advanced handheld technology and also for being So. Damn. Sexy. Like Stick-Yer-Knob-In-The-USB-Port sexy. DAYOM.

last time i checked, it was all about the games, and in that case, the DS simply stomped upon the PSPort Machine

and before you say im trolling, i spent 1000 bux on the psp and games at launch

how can u not see the psp failed at e3?

Maybe the eye in Drinky's avatar is blind...or it cares not to see.

I'm guessing he bases his views of potential rather than current situtation.

Ports of great games are still better than gimmicky, archaic content targeting grandmothers, little girls, and jaded Nintendo fanboys.

Besides, if it was "all 'bout the games, nuff said", no-one would bother to upgrade. For the elderly, the infantile, and the retarded, the DS could be considered an "upgrade" -- from a colostomy bag, maybe, or a Busy Box. Well, maybe not a Busy Box -- I've had more fun with my daughter's kick-ass "zoo animals" Busy Box than I have with the entire DS library combined. And best of all: no stylus!

telling me Mario Kart, Advance Wars, Goemon, Metroid Prime Hunters, Meteos, Sonic Rush, Kirby, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Nanostray, Lost in Blue, Castlevania, Viewtiful Joe DS, SBK: Snowboard Kids DS, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, Harvest Moon DS, Jam with the Band, ElectroPlankten, Jump Superstars, New Super Mario Bros., Mario & Luigi 2, and Trace Memory are all gimmicks? :lol

Dinky - 1 :lol

Mario Kart -- rehash, gimme any PSP racer with decent graphics over it
Advance Wars -- marginal upgrade, I'll still buy it because I'm a sucker for the series
Goemon -- kooky wai wai mascot crap like every other Goemon title; only mouth-breathing otakoids revere this C-grade series
Metroid Prime Hunters -- you better not be serious, this shit wouldn't fly in 1995 much less now; even Quake was more ambitious
Meteos -- a middling puzzler with novelty controls; I'll stick with the classics
Sonic Rush -- more fanboy-hyped mediocrity; Sonic games were never classics, and the dual screen is a pain on the eyes
Kirby -- already own it and have dismissed it as "eh"
Nintendogs -- 1 out of 5 in a forthcoming magazine review
Animal Crossing -- it's great, if you're a little girl or a manchild
Nanostray -- mediocre Euro shooter; had my fill on the Amiga
Lost in Blue -- more kooky crap with sloppy execution hailed by fanboys disenfranchised by modern genres
Castlevania -- ROCK SOLID SEXHURT, this will indeed own
Viewtiful Joe DS -- a middling platformer gets a massive, massive graphical downgrade
SBK: Snowboard Kids DS -- what the fuck, you musta bought a LOAD of crap games for your N64 along with Turok
Trauma Center: Under the Knife -- might be cute if it lets you get all psycho
Harvest Moon DS -- great if you're an overweight high-school girl
Jam with the Band -- more fruity subpar alterna-genre shit for the Japanese-obsessed dweeblets that populate this place
ElectroPlankten -- not too bad for a ball of tinfoil or a snowglobe; call me when it hits $2.99 at Bartell's
Jump Superstars -- like the lineup, hate the gameplay
New Super Mario Bros -- gonna ROCK!
Mario & Luigi 2 -- gonna ROCK!
Trace Memory -- PCs have been doing vastly better adventure games since the 80s

Thats' 3.5 decent games, Alright, that's 2.5 more than the Xbox, so I'll bump my score to a D+. Congratulations; it's a rare man that changes Your Lord Drinky Crow's mind!

even going by these 3 games, what did the PSP have to even compete with this? If the DS only had these 3 games and the PSP has only the games shown at E3, the DS, with 3 games would completely destroy the PSP in games.

you changed your score for the DS, but not for the PSP

You're wasting your time. DS is GREAT. Get over it.

The PSP's hardware is just too fucking awesome to ever go below a C. Them's the breaks, kid; life ain't fair for fanboys.

going by this, you must have thought that the Game Gear was infinetely better than the Game Boy

i love the PSP just as much as everyone else...but the game lineup just doesn't have me enticed at all...infact, the only thing i want is a Lumines 2 :D

PSP @ E3: Pursuit Force, Burnout Legends, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, Metal Gear Ac!d 2, MediEvil Resurrection, Dead to Rights: Reckoning, Virtua Tenis, Socom, Sims 2, Daxter, Monster Hunter, Infected, Frantix, Death, Jr and Coded Arms.

Apparently neither of you read my E3 score:

hahaa fair enough

bwahahahaha. lord, i missed your posts. i thought it was 15 yr. old nintendo fan junior member explosion from here on out.

Dead to Rights? Coded Arms? Yuck! Don't make me drop the PSP to a C-!

I'm down with Virtua Tennis, though. Oh MAN am I down with it. And Burnout Legends! Sweet and silky 'sack of Sissy Spacek, I dig it.

so you give a C to the PSP just because of hardware? wow, your version of gaming must be outhere

"hey guys look at this PSP, its fucking awesome!!"

"what games it got?"

"Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger"

:lol :lol :lol

I'm going to stay away from the handheld flames and pursue this statement. I assume you played the game, so could you give us some impressions?

Your taste in games has made consider picking a new handle for myself to likewise trumpet a fucking atrocious launch title for a content-starved hardware platform: would anyone mind if I changed my nick to Astal? How about Asphalt GT?

"Advance Wars -- marginal upgrade, I'll still buy it because I'm a sucker for the series"

Drinky, you score an F. See me after school FOR ASS RAPE DETENTION.

Combat mode alone is the best thing ever to be in my hand (that i didn't have to mop up after using)

Wario or Drinky..

I need either of you to do me a big favor....

I'm going to need you to come to my house and hold down my arms. Because if this news is true I am seriously going to do something harmful to myself out of sheer excitement.
