Endless Ocean, official quiet long river thread (Amir0x approved)

Just checked DVD Crave out of the blue to see if they had the UK version in, saw Mario Galaxy UK version has been shipping and almost cried.. but then searched up Endless Ocean and it's available and at $60 AUD to boot! Yum!

So I think the Galaxy will wait a week while I divulge into diving.

Don't you have a real-life sized Pacific all around you, crazie aussie?? :lol

Yeah true but if I was going scuba diving I'd have to travel north for a few hours by plane to dive in the Great Barrier Reef.

Everywhere else is lame~

made it to the
deep trench
yesterday. Holy crap that was amazing!

This game continues to impress me.. shame mario came out here on friday really as its now only getting half the time it deserves

Holy friggin WOW! Just got back from diving in the abyss. I spent about an hour down there and I think my jaw was on the floor the entire time. The atmospehere down in the darkness is amazing and the creatures and things that I encountered...once again, WOW.

The sperm whale, the giant squid, the huge shark (forgot it's name), the oarfish, the graveyard...
Surrounded in complete darkness it was kinda scary to all of a sudden encounter a huge creature that was calmly swimming in it's natural habitat and just happended to hit my light.

I love this game! I have SMG and still I pop this in. That's saying alot.

"Beat" the game yesterday evening. Or should I just say, I finished the main story.
Moby Dick sure is a beast!

Now I need to find all the debris scattered around the sea, in order to understand what they are meant to do, and of course I still miss many crabs, fishes, birds. Of the most exotic animals I only have one detail level of information and I want all three for all species.

Oh and I still haven't found where the ghost ship is. Anyone cares to show me in multi?

I'm in no hurry, though, as I plan to play this game basically as long as my Wii keeps functioning.. Let me know if and when you want to dive. Diving with someone else can help you, if anything because if you're looking to add species to your roster you can use some help.

Another kind of game I have in mind is finding a certain fish first. Whoever finds the fish first, blows the whistle.

If you want to play multi while drinking a beer just take advantage of the online forum. :D

i'm sure this must have been mentioned somewhere, but i'll ask nevertheless: does the game manual say anything about PAL and NTSC gamers diving together?

actually, that might be a FAQ so it may be better to put it in the OP.

It only allows people from the same region to play together, IIRC. I've seen that bit of info on the manual but I will look it up when I get home.

It's in the manual. You're welcome to join me in my micromeltdown.

heck, and now i recall i even jested on your post. short memory FTL.

oh well, nintendo. as much as i don't mind friend codes, region-locking your online is plain fuckin retarded.

anybody in for a long-term 'everybody votes' campaign on the subject?

Finished it yesterday (The main story anyway) and I still have like 40 creatures and 20 items to find, not to mention getting all additional creature info and all the extra clothing for yourself.

Speaking of clothing, has anybody gotten extra flippers yet? I get loads of suits and hairstyles but haven't had any flippers.

It seems they totally misunderstood the nature of the game.
It's a solid 8 IMHO (even if the game's NOT for everyone).

Well they seem to appreciate that its something different.......... and that's it. They don't seem to recognise the games other qualities which is in complete contrast to the n-europe review. But that's the same as the game brink review vs something like the NGamer review (s).

The only reason I haven't been playing it recentely is because galaxy has taken over my life.

Really like this game, glad I took the plunge. Not sure if i would have been happy paying full price for it though. It is really relaxing, whenever I sit down to play it I just veg out and before I know it I've spent a couple of hours with it. Uncovering all the squares on the map and finding new species is more compelling than I thought it would be. Wish I had an SD card though, the game has some nice music but not keen on the Westenra tunes. Finding the underwater ruins was great, but when Amazing Grace kicked in I started to feel a little sick. Had to go and kerbstomp some locusts to feel better!

am loving this game so far but just a quick question. When you get a dive and the client says, "I want to see species x" is there a way to pull open your creature book before you dive? Or even open your creature book mid dive? I'm pretty hopeless with remembering the names of the fish, so my dives with clients are pretty much, poke every single fish and hope I finally get the one they're after, kind of affairs.

Or will I just need to start remembering all of their names :-/

If you find fish or something during multi, it gets added to your roster or you have to return later?

Either that or just keep on poking every fish you see. A mix of both options did it for me. The encyclopedia isn't accessible while you're diving.

k, that is pretty annoying. Thankfully the dives I've done so far have been able to get the right fish pretty quickly, so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue.

Really enjoyable game tho, I would heavily recommend everyone to at least try it out.

I'm finding myself remembering the names of the fish. Was quite surreal walking into the local seafood shop and knowing which fish was which :lol

Sadly I haven't touched the game since Mario Galaxy came along but I swear as soon as I get those 120 stars I'll go back to diving.

Picked this up on the day of release, together with SMG.
UT3 came out recently, wich i've been waiting for a very very long time and build a custom PC for.
And Umbrella Chronicles!! As a Resi fan a must have offcourse.....

Haven't played anything other than Endless Ocean though.
The awesome diversity in animals and surroundings have absorbed me completely and i won't quit playing till i find all species and artifacts, eventhough i finished the main objective (Help the biatch on th boat find the "White Mother").
Everytime i find a species i haven't seen before i spend at least 20 minutes getting to know it and admire the the details, specialy when in "focused" mode.
Once waited for a fish to turn to it's side for the perfect snapshot, when a slug i hadn't noticed came stumbling in the focus point. Awesome.
Another highlight was diving in the abyss, goingl the way to the bottom, turn around in the pitch dark to find a Spermwhale comming straight towards me, face first!
Resi "dogs thru windows moment" there!
Same with the Giant Squid actualy....
Most of the encounters have just been like : "whooooaaaa......"

Diving with a friend is very cool aswell, although i don't think the progress of the game (collecting artifacts, new fish, etc) is saved after the session has ended.
Can see eachothers "Graffiti" wich is nice. And the commands done by using the D-Pad are handy too. Having a chat on MSN on the pc next to me worked better though...

Most of the awesomenes of the game(?) has allready been described in this thread , but i would like to comment that i hope there will be more of thse sots of games in the future.
Or perhaps even Updates thru Wii24 or Shopping Channnel.

Endless Jungle? (Forever Green) ? Endless Desert? (Forever Yellow)

Or perhaps another version, but then based on the Great Barrier Reef?

I'd buy em.

Imagining a game like this with the the "focused view" kind of graphics constantly...

I'm stuck! :(

I'm visiting the ruins at Marige Atoll.. and have discovered many tablets (I think three or four so far..) and some treasures lying about.
some of which were cursed?

But I can't figure out what to do to progress with the story.. I went diving there for a couple of days, and I can't seem to find the entrance to those rooms that are shown as darker squares on the map.. I keep getting blown out by the current. Any help would be appreciated! :)

I'm guessing you have only found the tablets, have you managed to get into any rooms you could'nt get into initially?
If i remember right theres something you need to pick up on the roof of the ruins, also theres some cracks in the roof, go investigate those.

and this little fella:

I played a bit of this game some days ago and I dig the relaxing atmosphere. It's adorable having a dolphin as a pet.

But I think I'll freak out a bit when I meet one of those guys, I'm dead scared of sharks.

The ghost ship alters between three different locations. Finding all the peices of the compass will give you those. If you feel impatient try poking your head up out of ther water, as you can see if it's the vicinity more clearly. I think it only appears at night as well.

I first found it during the day. It is quite big though, so you can see it even if it's a way off.

This game is so frustrating, nowhere near as great as Everblue 2. However, I keep playing... Anyway, i'm stuck again.

The idiot chick on the boat keeps talking about something being behind the vents in the abyss, i've dived there about twenty times, at night when the vents are off, found a fossil piece, two pieces of coral, a cocht-something fishe (ive rubbed it up to know it), found the skull fossil on the wall yet she won't shut up about the vents. What else does she want from me?

where did you find this one? Is it the ancestor of the white sharks which the description book tells about?
Ocean's Graveyard. It says "The legendary great white shark with a giant body and a length of over 7m. Its name is that of the god of violence and death that features in myths around the islands of Paoul. Can be seen swimming around all areas of the Ocean's Graveyard all year round."

The game has seasons.

Edit

Here's "photomode". It adds saturation and blur, depending on the lens and where you focus the pointer.

so I have to check the graveyard again. Did a short visit before and met a group of 7 or 8 of the "regular" white sharks near the top of the sunken ship, but no sign of the great white yet.

How did you guys find that badass white shark? I've been to the ghost ship 6 + times and the white sharks I see are tiny ass boring ones. Damn am I in the wrong season? And that manta ray display was OMG. I've seen the one huge manta.

Tips on finding the ghost ship, its normally near the bottom of the map in the middle or in the wide space in the top left of the map near the great drop off, it moves so you have to check each location. Its there night or day. You can normally see it above the ocean surface too.

I found him around the plane debris area diving through a part of the fuselage. (edt: I was wrong, try the pipes.) It triggers a cutscene.

I just noticed, youtube videos look much better (almost like the original) on my girlfriends iphone. :D I knew about the Apple/Youtube encoding deal, but I never tried one of my videos. Pretty cool. I want an ipod touch.
