Episode VIII is "The Last Jedi"

I also think Chirrut's ability to feel the force (if not use it) might be a nudge in the doorway to allow Finn to be a relative normal guy who can, through determination/force of will, actually tap into it despite not having a natural affinity.

Jedi didn't even consider that sort of shit a possibility.

I'm stupidly hoping we get a ReyFinn v Ren lightsaber fight based on that premise.

I'm down with it either way but.. keep in mind, if Finn and Rey DO both start down the path of the Jedi, that doesn't mean they'll completely agree on their teachings and end up as the same person. I can see some really awesome juxtaposition with Finn representing the light side and pulling Rey out of the dark along her journey. I can envision them disagreeing furiously about what they should do with their power and Luke explaining that this is the struggle Ren faced when he ultimately fell into Snoke's grasp.

Some really cool character moments there and lots of chances for juicy development.

It would also break us out of the mold of "hero learns the force, battles evil" and provide some interesting dynamics between the two leads.

Ultimately, Finn pulls her out of her funk and helps defeat the FO.

KYLO V REY V FINN

LUKE V SNOKE

Actually, I wonder if Snoke will ever actually fight. I could see him not actually being that great of a fighter and more of a manipulator.

Agree on both counts. The title alone reminded me how much more excited I am at the prospect of this film vs. R1. I'm invested in these characters, big time.

The poetry, man. Sometimes it really gets to me.

The jedi and the sith should just stay gone, the true legacy of the Sith died with Vader/Sheev(unless Snoke is some old sith lord) and the jedi just keep fucking up. Got caught up in politics, lost their way and couldn't see the devil was right in front of them, and then Luke fucks up and they get wiped out by a school shooter, time for new kinds of force users man.

I'd actually like to hear a Star Wars lore guy explain this to me. It is weird they don't reproduce at the rate you'd think they would. I'm sure its explained somewhere, but the "no love or marriage" thing doesn't cut it, everybody fucks whether they're currently in love, or married, or not.

You'd think while Luke was away in exile he'd have picked a planet with hot babes on it so he could spit out as many baby Jedi as possible.

This guy would get kicked out right away, he ain't even got a dick.

Seems like every kid who's parent is a Jedi ends up being force sensitive, so a couple of generals of Jedis having kids, and you'd have a pretty good amount of Jedis running around. It was like the Jedi order was designed to be shit.

Probably was a Sith who thought up the rules.

Am I the only person who feels like a prequel duology that details the two great schism. I'd like to see movies that explain the founding and fracturing of the Jedi or and the later film deals with the founding of the Sith Order and their eventual rise. Those seem like more worthwhile ventures than the present future of the franchise and the focus on the Skywalkers and their extended family.

I always looked at Jedi as some kind of spiritual Eunuchs. Like, the more in tune they are with the force, the less connection they have with physical and emotional needs. I mean, they CAN have sex but probably just don't have the drive to hook up with whoever.

But wouldn't they see it as a necessity to continue the line of Jedis? It would be dumb not to, and I'm assuming Jedi aren't dumb.

I'm guessing the title refers to both Luke and Rey.

Luke, because he's literally the last Jedi, and Rey, who will take on that mantle after Luke trains her and then dies or rejects the path that cursed his family with darkness and tragedy.

I guarantee that either Ep. 8 or Ep. 9 will show us Force ghost Luke. There's no way it won't happen.

I've figured that Luke is going back to basics and is giving up on the idea of Jedi. Being at an old Jedi temple, not to mention fighting a pre-sith evil in snoke, he might be looking to make a newer, purer idea of being a force user.

So Luke is the last Jedi, because he's moving on from the Jedi order.

The only Jedi that seems to ever have interest in the idea of having children that would grow up to save the galaxy gets shoved into a walking coffin robot body as a result of the restrictions placed on showing emotion.

The jedi are very dumb.

I'm really hoping they don't go down that path. Episode 7 was too much like Episode 4, they really can't get away with killing off Luke just like they killed off Obiwan, how boring...

Then again, Episode 7 happened so maybe they will. Don't get me wrong, I loved Episode 7, but they could have been a wee bit more original with their plot points.

If this movie is "Luke dies (at Kylo's hands), Rey sees it and sets her on her path to become the Jedi heroine" then I'll be SUPER disappointed. Do something interesting with Luke as a character please.

They'll get so much shit if they do this, and now I'm sitting here worried they will. Dammit I need a trailer.

Yeah, that's kind of the problem. Jedi seem far too preoccupied with keeping balance and maintaining peace to worrying about trivial things like continuing their lineage. Which is probably why there's THE LAST JEDI, coming this Christmas to a theater near you.

But Obi-wan died in 4 (7), no 5 (8)? And even if they did kill him there are tons of different ways for it to be different from Ben's "I'm too old for this shit" sacrifice.

I'm saying it would be too familiar to just the overall star wars story from the original trilogy.

It would be lame to retread yet another plot point from the original trilogy by killing the old Jedi so the new one can become "the" Jedi.

I'm aware Luke is going to have to die at some point. I just hope they flesh out his character a little more, and do some interesting things with him, and not just kill him off for Rey's journey to becoming a Jedi master.

I'm not signed into GAF at work and had one long freaking day, but this was my first thought upon reading the title when the thread was posted, as well. My hope is thematically, it's about Rey seeing what the Jedi were about and going her own way. Not so much rejecting his teachings as rejecting his order.

Donnie Yen's character in R1 set the stage, as a force sensitive person who is not a Jedi; now Rey goes on to be a full fledged force user who is not a Jedi, just as Ren is not a Sith.

Edit: fixed an epic buttload of fatigue induced typos.
That's my hope, as well. The Jedi have failed time and time again, it's time for something new to arise from the ashes. Luke is the last, Rey will be the first of something new.

Oh yeah, this could be great. The Jedi had their day in the sun and they ruined everything with their shortsighted dogmatism.
