I know, right? It's a huge pet peeve of mine.

why? because game's slightly but just slightly repetitive. But just slightly

I was really really looking forward to this port. But strangely, this game doesn't seem all that great once I actually played it. Mostly game play complaints, and some minor weirdness in design decisions.
I really love the art style and the quality of work, but the game play turned out to be a bit of a turn-off...
I just stopped playing the game halfway through on the 360 because the gameplay became monotonous. There is a thread on here titled Why Eternal Sonata Sucks and it pretty much explains the gameplay. Not that I agree that it completely sucks or that I agree with everything said in that thread.
for example, can you heal party members using magic/skills while not in combat? are healing items the ONLY way?
Yes
can you take items out of the pouch and back into inventory? I accidentally filled my pouch and can't take anything back out.
Yes, when not in battle.
is there a purpose to the town in the demo? no inns? no healing springs? anything?
why is it so easy to die in this game? 2 hits and Polka dies. Blocking doesn't reduce damage all that much either.
It does though this aspect in the PS3 version may be modified. Even on the 360 Polka always took alot of damage. You get multiple party members to choose from through so you can use her when you want.
Pre-release, yes. Post-release, you aren't remembering right. You don't have to be a fanboy to recognize mediocre tripe.Seiken said:Does this have anything to do with the game got multiplatform'd?
Because I remember GAF praising the game a lot, back then when it was exclusive.

If that was me then I'm still praising it. It's certainly better than most of the mediocre "next-gen" JRPGs released so far. And, by all accounts, the PS3 version is even better!Seiken said:Because I remember GAF praising the game a lot, back then when it was exclusive.
No, I don't. Yes, there are some recolored enemies, but by the time you encounter them you have a lot more options and characters to use in the fights. Also, once the battle system levels up a few times it becomes very fast. And if you tire of fighting (which didn't happen to me in this game, unlike the majority of JRPGs) you can just skip most of the battles.Traumahound said:Don't worry Awntawn, some of us that survived ES on the 360 know exactly what you meant.

I knew it. Namco hates freedom. I'm boycotting this game!!distantmantra said:Picked it up during my lunch break today. Nice to see a full color manual, but half of it is in French...

Gaming Age said:For a game that places a lot of emphasis on music, Eternal Sonata doesn't disappoint. Akira Yamaoka composes most of the tunes, whose credits you've probably seen in games like the Silent Hill series (Sound Director, Sound Producer, Composer/Arranger), the popular Beatmania series, and a few other well-known franchises. His music in Eternal Sonata is fantastic treat, with quite a few memorable tunes.
Mejilan said:Glad I held off on the 360 version. I'll pick this one up after it bombs and hits $20 in early 2009.
That's a really out there mistake, Yamaoka is nothing like Sakuraba.Fady K said:BTW guys, some funny error I found in the gaming age review:

He said it look better on the PlayStation 3 than on the Xbox 360, because the colors seem to pop even more. To me that doesn't sound like better graphic to me. It just sound like he was looking for a reason to make the PS3 sound better. As for the IGN 8.7 to 8.3 have some of you thought the reviewers could be different people, and one person might not have enjoyed the game as much as the next. Enternal Sonata s not a bad game but it not worth a double dip. the game got an 8.5 for both the PS3 and 360Ricker said:Gamespot 8.5 :

Even though I finished this game on the 360,after i'm done with all the new games coming out till the end of the year,I'm going to rent this for sure on the PS3 down the line.
