correct about everything
worst change was when they started to just show the first seven points on screen, with no countdown. ruins most of the excitement.

Did they ever think of changing how the voting works?

It's been changed many times during the years. The current system of having 50% popular vote and 50% professional juries deciding the vote in every country has been in place for 3-4 years.

Before that all the points were determined by popular vote, when the eurovision began the points were determined by professional juries. And in between there has been a variety of combinations - like the time when some of the countries had vote and some had professional juries and some had both.

What if we unleashed Rubberbandits, but still lost :/

Black Man would suit Eurovision so well - as it has a theme of Love at its core!

American news reports if it wins

RACISM IN EUROPE ON THE RISE AS ENTIRE EU SUPPORTS SONG CALLED BLACK MAN.

They've changed how voting works a billion times over the past 15 or so years.

They have changed it several times. Anything in particular you have in mind?

Checking the point spread of semi 2 now, San Marino got the unlucky 11th place, but the difference between 10 and 11 is much bigger in semi 2 (16 points). I also remember GAF liking Bulgaria; they placed 12th behind San Marino and missed the final by 18 points.
.

And Slovenia last in the first semi with whooping 8 points and even last overall. Our national TV will probably:
a) Bail out for next year
b) Blame our performer
c) Do nothing

Will they release the voting results split in popular vote and jury vote? It was a lot closer this time (and the winner didn't get as many "12 points"), so it would be interesting to see which part contributed more to Denmark's victory.

So just like Austria last year, with the difference that Slovenia's song was actually decent.

Doubtful.

Otoh, would you want to be watching until 4am as an unfunny person from every EBU country takes way too long to announce all the points?

Thanks! No wonder Turkey was so pissed about the jury.
Took them 3 weeks to publish those votes, though, so we might have to wait a while for this year's split.

There'll be some sore heads in the Irish camp this morning. I didn't like to song, but they didn't deserve to be last.

Yeah, It wasn't that bad. I mean it wasn't good either but it wasn't 3 points bad.

dear eurovision: next time please invite australia and korea to your party!

and also change the voting system ... take the size of the population into account and to teh MATH!

I'm still annoyed that Montenegro didn't get through to the final

Awww yiiiiirrr.

I was out in the city center of Copenhagen when Denmark was winning. People were going batshit insane around Moose and Zoo bar on kronprinsessegade.

Being a dane. Feels good man.

Do you think they don't deserve it? Also, Scandinavia isn't large enough to win based only on block voting, and Denmark would have won even if you removed all of the points from the Nordic countries (in fact, only Iceland gave it a 12, the Nordic countries generally preferred Norway over Denmark).

Scandinavia is known for writing pop music for the rest of the world's artists. The shocking part is more how many shitty songs they've sent to the Eurovision through the years.

First you beat us in hockey and then you give us zero points in Eurovision. You are cruel Sweden, very cruel. Also gongrats to Denmark! You also were only nordic to give us points so we love you <3

just change the name to something noteurovision .. worldvision? urbanvision? popvision?

You don't seem to understand.
The song contest is hosted by the European Broadcast Union (EBU). This is based on sharing broadcasting/network stuff such as satellites, which is why there's non-European members like Israel or Egypt, but Australia could not be part of it because it's within a different broadcasting area.

That has nothing to do with Europe geographically.

EBU membership requires you to be part of the European Broadcasting Area or part of the Council of Europe. Azerbaijan is a Council of Europe member and thus qualifies.

Right, I forgot about the Council of Europe part. I knew that Iraq was still within the broadcasting area, and that Qatar was expressing interest for becoming a member of the EBU, though.
Latter is a bit curious because iirc, Qatar is just outside of the broadcasting area, and not on the Council either.

It is slightly ridiculous that San Marino gets as many votes as Russia when they have about 0.02% their population.

On the other hand it would be a bit unfair to bigger countries if their vote was worth more (since that means they'd miss out on more points).
It's a contest of nations, so it's fair if each nation is treated the same.

Norway, Sweden and Denmark have all won the competition the last years. Time to step it up Finland and Iceland, your failures in the ESC are embarrassing the rest of us Nordic countries.
