saw Craig Charles in the street once , wanted to take his picture he just went no, and then walked off,

met Aaron Paul in Hyde Park, got a picture with him, was a cool guy, I didn't get him to say bitch etc, figured he gets that enough.

oh and Jeff Capes was a bit rude

I haven't met any "real" celebrities, but I was really into the Starcraft 2 scene for a good while and ended up hanging out with quite a few "celebs" from that scene.

Honestly, most everyone from that scene was awesome, i kinda miss it.

Quick Comparison though:

Sean "Day9" Plott: an awesome, awesome dude every time i ran into him.
Nick "Tasteless" Plott: really had no interest in talking to anyone. He wasn't a dick about it, but he wasn't really hiding his indifference either.

Craig Mack (Flava in your Ear) used to come into the Gamestop I ran back in the early 2000s. He was always trading in busted old PS2 games, and would always ask me if the other workers knew who he was. I remember his cracked old leather jacket. It wasn't a good look for him.

Best experience I had, I did meet Run The Jewels when they were promoting RTJ2 in Rough Trade. By that time, RTJ2 was out and Rough Trade was blaring Close Your Eyes, and I was mouthing part of Killer Mike's lyrics when he saw me doing that and gave me props. Actually, after that, my friend and I got invited to the RTJ wrap party thing at one of the local Brooklyn theaters where we watched "The Warriors" with Mass Appeal staff and RTJ. I got a really sweet popcorn tin out of it that came with a 7-inch of Blockbuster Night, and a Halloween poster out of it.

If anyone's interested, I could post some pictures of the tin and the single.

I would love to meet someone like Killer Mike, he has such energy and love for his fans. If you check his Twitter, he RT's and replies to a lot of fans. I feel like he's very proud of the fan base he has now. Plus, he may put on a good show, but in interviews he comes off as highly intelligent and serious about the themes in the songs. There are so many verses of his where I just think 'man, you're a fucking genius'. I've only seen him solo at Primavera in Barcelona, but that was an amazing gig. He was right in my face when he came to greet the crowd:

I couldn't even imagine Mike being a disappointment to meet, he seems way too awesome. Too bad I haven't been able to catch a RTJ show, they ignored Belgium in their most recent tour.

That's great. I really like Day9.

He was such a great dude. At the end of the night, we got to chat briefly with them and the guy gave me a hug-high five thing. He was such a good dude. He'll always be a fantastic guy in my book because of that night.

The only "celebs" I'd want to actually meet are ones I've heard in conversation before and have an idea what I'm in for, then again that could all be a front too for self promotion purposes so I guess it's impossible to know who's approachable and who wants to be left alone. I met Matt Besser of Upright Citizens Brigade once at Bumbershoot and he did NOT seem happy to be approached lol, but still managed the PR politeness despite seeming uncomfortable. Ditto for another UCB guy, Rob Huebel. Lots of nodding and "oh cool's" about liking his work. Not like I expect to be wined and dined by them or anything, but damn why the deer in headlights look? Hopefully I don't look like a stalker :|

I'd like to think somebody like Bill Burr would be approachable and might even have a short chit chat with a fan, seems like a laid back guy that doesn't take himself too seriously.

Only really met authors. Most have been great. Some of them were utter jerks, like Markus Zusak who said I probably didn't even read his books for whatever fucking reason. And to think The Book Thief is one of my favorite novels.

I bumped into Regis Philbin at a Chase Manhattan Bank two summers ago and he's probably the shortest man I have ever met.

Conversely, that same summer I met Emily "Beth from The Walking Dead, or, that girl who sings" Kinney at a Starbucks on Columbia avenue and she was shy as fuck and downplayed the fact that she was on a popular show. She blushed hard and wouldn't answer when I asked "But I've seen you in some movie or show..." because it took me a minute to realize where I recognized her from.

She reluctantly came up to me and said "I'm on this TV show called The Walking Dead" and my jaw dropped. I don't get "star struck" at all, but for some reason I had that surreal feeling because my friends and I would event/hate watch it every week here in Taipei, and it was such a strange thing to see her there.

She said "Thanks for watching" in this cute, tiny little voice, on her way out. So that was a suprisingly awesome "celebrity" encounter that is the exact opposite of what most people would expect.
Jealous. I have a slight crush on her.

I met hugh grant at a golf tourney while studying at st andrews... he was normal.

And then pictures emerged in the news of him making out with a group of freshman girls.

Hugh being hugh

Edit: come to think of it, i had a runin with bill murray that same weekend. He looks very old in person, but couldnt have been nicer.

Met Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) from GoT. Fucking amazing person. Met Jason Momoa (Drogo) from GoT. Douche bag. I bumped into Channing Tatum at the montreal airport while we were picking up our luggage. He was super awesome actually.

I haven't had any celebrities be rude to me. I met Jason Lee at an autograph session for My Name is Earl one time with some acquaintances who were all thrown out for trying to have a copy of Dogma signed. They asked me to go through again to sneak it to him and I did, walking past other cast members since they had already signed the show merchandise I bought. He gave me this kind of sad look and almost signed it before the staff kicked me out. Awkward, embarrassing memory.

I'm in a writer's group that meets monthly for dinner and drinks. Once, I look across the room of the hotel bar where we meet and think I recognize Jonathan Franzen. I turn to my friends and drunk-whisper, "DOESN'T THAT GUY LOOK LIKE JONATHAN FRANZEN?" I don't think there is much louder than a drunk-whisper. "REMEMBER WHEN HE SCREWED HIS CAREER UP BY INSULTING OPRAH?" Suddenly, the gentleman is at my elbow. "I'm Jonathan Franzen and that's not what happened at all." He was very nice about it. He still screwed up by not accepting Oprah's book club selection.

Al Franken. Kinda neat to see him ride a crowded bus (this was years ago), but he didn't give up his seat for an elderly lady when he probably should have. He did that thing where you pretend to be so busy you don't notice but come on man.

I met Bill Cosby when I was a kid doing a Kids Say The Darndest Things type routine when he was doing stand up. He seemed nice, when I was older my mom told me he was making jokes about alchololism and abuse that went over my head. That and the obvious accusations that have come out have soured my opinion of him.
Speaking of shitty people, I met Jared Fogle once when my band played an event he hosted. He was really nice, took pictures and even got my band's shirt. I would've never suspected he was a pedophile from our interactions.
I live in Oklahoma City, so I see Wayne Coyne from the flaming lips around quite often. First time I met him he was very nice. He's done lots of messed up things to people within my social circle though, so that opinion has been ruined as well.
I've met some cool celebrities too though. I met Shigeru Miyamoto in Hawaii once on a beach. There was a very large turtle on a beach, and a crowd of people came up to look. I was only 11 years old. My dad struck up a conversation with a Nintendo employee he was with and eventually I learned who he was and shook hands and everything. I remember that he reacted positively when I showed him my PokemonPikachu walker thing was in my moms purse.
I've met Riff Raff, it was super weird. Not a bad encounter but it was at warped tour at a meet and greet and it was like a circus freak in a tent that people lined up to see. He looked miserable. No eye contact, but did agree and posed for a photo.
Mac DeMarco was super cool when I met him. He initiated a handshake, seemed genuinely interested in everything I had to say and was a super cool guy.
Eric Andre was also very chill. He made a lot of small talk.
I've met a ton of people who aren't as well known, but that's for another thread.

I've met a bunch. The biggest stand outs were Madonna and Bobby Brown because I didn't expect then to be cool. She was super cool and approachable (this was YEARS ago) and I drank Kristal with Bobby. That was dope.

Met Hank Aaron and he was a super douche. Probably the biggest disappointment as far as celebs go.

Russell Simmons is cool and super short. His wife at the time was the tallest woman I've ever seen. She was nice though.

I've met Andre and Big Boi from Outkast. They were the only ones that truly had me star struck. Very cool guys.

Met Killer Mike outside of a jewelry store. He was riding the biggest F350 is ever seen. Fierce beard.

Not Hammerin Hank :(

I was sitting in a suite at a Super Bowl, and it had a really weird crowd in it -- Jenna Elfman, Isaac Hayes, Andrew Keegan, and Leann Rimes. Jenna Elfman was amazingly cool. Isaac Hayes tried to convert me to Scientology ... but, he was nice about it, not obnoxious. Andrew Keegan seemed like a really nice guy.

But Leann Rimes? Wow ... I mean, I don't like to say bad things about people, so I'll just say she made a really bad impression.

I have fortunately never been disappointed by a celeb but I don't really meet a lot.

I was incredibly star struck when I met Christopher Walken. He was pretty chill about fans gushing over him, but it could have been the fact that his breathe smelted of booze at 10 AM.

I know a few but... when i read about if they are nice or not... .is like.

"Hello stranger, please be nice with me, a person you don't know of anything and assault you in the middle of the street."

Met John Dunsworth and Pat Roach this year (Mr. Lahey and Randy from Trailer Park Boys, respectively).

Can't say enough good things about them. Both super nice, amazing guys. One of the most refreshing things was to see how genuinely enthusiastic they still were for the show and its fans. After playing those characters for so long, and doing countless appearances in character while not filming, you may assume the opposite. Nope, they were clearly still stoked about the show and sincerely grateful for it.

Michelle Fairly, Cat Stark from Game of Thrones. She was extremely skinny, I mean it comes with the job and all, but it was to the point where it was a little bit disturbing and she had a suuuper deep tobacco voice. Aesthetics aside, she wasn't friendly at all, just tried to shoo me as fast as possible before someone else recognized her. Which to be fair is okay, I understand she doesn't wanna be bothered, but she could've been nicer about it. Something about her whole body language and demeanor was rather negative.

This aside, I've met a lot of celebrities, living in London and all and most of them have been absolutely fantastic. My favourite was Aaron Paul - that guy is fucking amazing.

I've generally noticed that celebrities are more negative and simply exhausted at events where you go specifically to see them, but I can imagine standing on a booth, signing shit all day is not really fun.

Hung out with Michael Ian Black at a party once for about an hour. It was kind of annoying how insecure he was, always trying to top whatever someone said with a funnier joke. Came off as him trying too hard. Kind of a jerk, but that was expected.

Also hung out with Abby Elliot from SNL at a party. She was really nice, but wouldn't stop texting and looking at her phone.

I also got very drunk at that same party and ran into Clay Aiken. I shook his hand, said something like "Hi Clay, nice to meet you." He said hi back. Then I realized I had nothing to say to the man and walked away like a creeper.

Had lunch with Ben Stein once. Really a nice, gentle, genuine guy.

Also had a 10 minute chat with Chris Hardwick outside of the W Hotel in New York once. We talked about comedy and doing stand up. Another really nice, amazing person. He's exactly as cool and nice as he is on the Nerdist podcast/Talking Dead.

I also went to high school with Paul Dano. Really cool dude -- theater geek, but was nice.

I met Conan when he was still in NYC. Also met Jason Alexander at a play.
I have a picture with some Knicks legends as well.

I know a few but... when i read about if they are nice or not... .is like.

"Hello stranger, please be nice with me, a person you don't know of anything and assault you in the middle of the street."

A very close acquaintance of mine gave me some very good life advice that boils down to:

Treat celebrities like regular folk and regular folks like celebrities.

This is coming from a guy that writes for a sports blog and hangs out with NBA players and performers like Jay-Z, Drake, and Rihanna.

I used to work at an "upscale" dinner/night club in Toronto and had quite a few run-ins with celebrities as there would frequently be private events (TIFF parties, Movie wrap parties, parties for the NBA/NHL teams - especially NHL because the league was locked out that year). The vast majority of them were always very nice and polite and never tried to use their celebrity for special treatment or anything like that.

Some of the more notable things:

1) I saw Lance Bass and Shannon Elizabeth take a large number of pills one evening. Obviously I have no idea what they were taking but in my experience most people don't bring their vitamins or medicine with them to the club. Both of them were incredibly nice to everyone on staff.

2) When Slash from Guns n Roses played the National Anthem at the Blue Jays game, he came to our club after the game. He was the only "celebrity" in the place and was just mingling in the regular club area (not VIP) and was talking with everyone and anyone who wanted to meet him. Super cool dude. I guess he didn't know that smoking in a bar had become illegal in Ontario so our security manager informed him that he wasn't allowed to smoke in the bar. Slash said "OK, no problem... where can I smoke then?" After being told smoking was permitted on our outdoor heated & covered patio, he climbed up onto the bar and pronounced "EVERYONE, TO THE PATIO!" then proceeded to take about 75% of the patrons out to the patio with him.

3) As I mentioned before the NHL was locked out that year, so there was a lot of drinking done by NHL players in our club. It's very strange to watch guys that you had looked up to and tried to emulate as a kid get all sweaty-drunk and get turned down by girls that have no idea who they were (not that it should matter). They were almost always polite and good customers. Except Eric Lindros... he was a dick.

I had the good fortune of working there with 2 of my closest friends as well. One of them is a GREAT guy, but is notoriously terrible with names & faces. Especially those of celebrities. I have two separate but hilarious stories that involve him. Let's call him Todd.

So Todd comes downstairs (which is where our staff room, prep area & storage space was) and says "Man, there's a lot of really tall black guys up there. Apparently they are rappers or something?" I'm sort of not really paying attention to him because I'm too busy cutting limes or some other menial bar task but then he drops this on me: "I guess one guy's name is Chris Bosh or something? I've never heard of him and he doesn't look that tough." I just turned to him slowly and said "Rapper? Or RAPTOR?" Watching the realization spread over his face was hilarious. Then he says "Ohhhhh, that makes WAY more sense!"

The second story is my favorite. It wasn't a very busy night, so our manager told us that someone was going to be cut early and if anyone wanted to volunteer that would be great. Usually at our club getting cut early meant you just stayed anyways because it was a club that none of us would have ever gotten into other than the fact that we worked there, plus you get to drink for free. So Todd volunteers to get cut and does in fact hang around.

A few hours later he comes back up the stairs and approaches me at the bar and says "Some douchebag downstairs just tried to tell me that he was Ed Harris the actor." We had heard that Ed Harris might be coming but nobody has seen him yet. I ask Todd to point out the gentleman in question when he came up the stairs... which he does. I then tell Todd that the guy is in fact Ed Harris the actor. Todd was immediately and clearly VERY embarassed. I said "Oh no, what did you do?" and this is the story I got. (Keep in mind Todd has been drinking free drinks for hours)

"So I'm standing there at the urinal taking a piss and this old guy walks up beside me. I said 'Hey man, how's it going?' and he said he was fine. Then I said 'Oh my god, there is so many hot girls in here tonight!' and he said 'Yeah, I guess so.' And then I said 'I heard Ed Harris the actor is going to be here tonight' at which point the guy looks right at me for the first time and says 'I am Ed Harris'. I laughed and basically told the guy to fuck off because he looks like every single other horny old guy that comes in here every weekend."

I bet you most celebrities don't have that type of interaction very frequently.
