What MS was doing wasn't interesting me. Silly me thought: "sell your series X now and buy it for the awesome backwards compatibility in a few years for a dime…"

Arrested Development Mistake GIF

Got all Xboxen at launch since the first, didn't buy X bc the launch line up sucked. Since then they've lost me completely. Shame but we'll always have the golden age of 360, when XBL was revolutionary and they dropped games like Crackdown...good times.

I bought Xbox One X to go with my then new 4K OLED to play RDR2 in 2018 October. I played through RDR2 and returned the console a few weeks later since I noticed noticed none of the exclusives were that interesting to play. I already had at base PS4, and that remains the only "new" console in my home even nowadays.

I bought a new PC last year, and that's my main way to play games. Zero interest in Xbox Series X or S. I will probably buy Playstation 6 next.

Not trying to start anything, truth is I get everything on PlayStation. I didn't see the point of an extra console. If it's something only on Pc I just play it there or GeForce now on Tv.

My first xbox was a 360 instead of a ps4 that my family got by mistake and I had 1 week to play with it before returning it and It was good, way better than a ps3.
I had my ps4 till late 2019 then got my first xbox it was a one s and it was alright, ui was confusing but I liked the controller, then I discovered gamepass later 2020 and OH MY DAYS this is the best thing in gaming.
Not just gamepass that made me also get the XSX but also the features like quick resume, autoHDR and framerate unlock thingy that I forgot the name of.
I was eating GOOD! Especially when they bought ACTIVISION and it was like yeah xbox won the console war.
Mid 2022 I got a PC but still played on my xbox alot because of gamepass and familiarity
All that was till like mid 2024 when Microsoft was starting or started going multiplatform and I felt betrayed, like why did I invest in an xbox if its going to Sony aswell, I could've just bought a PlayStation
Microsoft did alot of shitty things from mid 2024 and my loyalty for the platform started dying day by day and by early 2025 I was mostly on PC
And now after the ABSOLUTE STUPID gamepass price hike I was like I'm done, fuck this platform, fuck Microsoft im out
I still have to go back to xbox to play with friends on games with no crossplay and pay for online:messenger_angry:

I had a 360, and traded it in for a PS3 because of fomo. Did a PS4 after that.

It wasn't anything MS did wrong... I'm just fickle and poor.

Sold my Series S in 2024. I enjoyed my time with the console however a combination of factors lead to my decision:
  • Not having the time any more to sit in a fixed place to play home consoles regularly.
  • The ever rising cost of Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.
  • Microsoft's conduct and leaked emails during the ABK purchase.

i loved my xbox 360. i bullied my brother into helping me buy it to play Call of Duty 2, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and GTA 4. later i S-ranked Assassin's Creed 2 on it :] . i played rock band 2 and 3 so much that my drum kit turned into a mass of duct tape and pieces of metal holding it all together lol.

i think i actually bought an original xbox after we got our 360 :pie_thinking: mostly for Halo 2, Burnout 3 and Jet Set Radio Future.

haven't used an xbox since they both died. rip.

I almost always had a decent pc, but also consoles. I don't remember the exact year, but I sold my Xbox and PlayStation as soon as it became clear that I could play everything from Xbox i was interested in on pc and that Sony was only making cinematics, which I simply wasn't interested in. And now i'm done with consoles for good.

Well, when they started making a fool of themselves with Kinect, I abandoned the 360 (2005-2009 were the best years for the brand) and switched to PS3, I did well seeing everything that came after.

As an og xbox owner, i left mentally in 2005 after seeing those bullshot ps3 e3 trailers(motorstorm and killzone2), in hindsight i think proper time to leave xbox brand was in 2013- aka when u saw company turned away from core gamers to tv tv tv crowd.

I didn't leave Xbox, I bought a PC.

First step was taken when they started doing ports. In 2015 iirc. But I still needed the console for the living room. The full "exit" happened in 2023 when I built a PC for the living room, it was my new console. I left Playstation too at that point for the same reason.

However, I still have all consoles and I'm using Gamepass a ton. So not sure I can talk about a proper exit, it's more like a transition. But regular game purchases are done on Steam.

Still use the consoles for those rare scenarios when a title isn't out on PC, old or new. Hopefully I can be on PC only eventually, with my complete library available through a nice menu at some point, that's my ultimate gaming setup.

Even though technically I am not an ex-xbox player just yet, I see the Series X being the last Xbox console I buy going forward there is no reason to buy the next one, and I might eventually end up either buying the PS5 Slim, or PS5 Pro...but not anytime soon...and I am not too fussed if that means the PS6 will be out by then, I'm still using the PS4 Pro...

My brother and I had a blast with Halo1 co-op. So when the 360 launched I bought one, I played Gears of War, that looked amazing at that time. Then the RROD was starting to hit the masses, and I sold it before it happened to me, after a week the buyer contacted me that the 360 had the RROD and I was so glad i sold it. I will never support faulty shit. And that was it, I never looked back.

I had an OG Xbox and a 360.

There hasn't been a reason to own an Xbox since like 2008 pretty much. OG Xbox had some fun stuff and the first few years of 360 was fun. Microsoft hasn't contributed anything meaningful to the industry since then.

I didn't leave Xbox. Xbox left me.

But seriously, I knew it was over for good when Spencer went on that podcast and said making good games wouldn't matter or whatever. Any sane company would have immediately handed him a pink slip after that interview.

I regretted my Xbox one purchase but still had one for a while.

Truly left when series S and X hit. No games and PC was getting everything plus gamepass.

I really left in totality now when the recent gamepass price hikes happened and my lack of pc gaming enthusiasm dwindled entirely. Basically my 8 year old son games on my 3080 pc, and I hog the ps5. Sitting in front of a computer just feels like a chore.

I may fuck with a steam machine to hook it up to my TV so I can get back into some pc gaming via comfy couch. Then perhaps Xbox gamepass sub will come back.

Left late 2025 when my classic OG XBox stopped working, which I played once in a while. Never had any other XBoxes.

I never understood this approach. But doesn't surprise me coming from the company that focus on TV during the release of their next console.

I used to think Microsoft was the worst part of Xbox, but now it seems that Xbox is its own worst enemy.

SEGA had a more iconic death than Xbox, at least they went out with some absolute bangers.

oh idunno, Sunset Overdrive and Pentiment are cool (played them both on Steam, but still)

oh, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Had an interesting short journey with Xbox.

Always was a Nintendo/Playstation kid, then added PC to the mix, the Bethesda acquisition made me curious about Xbox, and I bought a Series X in 2021~2022ish.

2 years on the console is largely unused and I'm looking into how to use it as an couch emulation machine. I personally discovered that I am largely uninterested in anything Microsoft produced in-house (meaning pre-acquisitions), maybe the only exception is Forza Horizon?

I bought a Series X back in 2020, and sold it in 2024.

I sold it solely because they went 3rd party. I did enjoy the hardware and its features a lot, but why should I own a Xbox that only plays Xbox+3rd party titles when I can own a Ps5 (at an equivalent price point) that play PlayStation+Xbox+3rd party titles?

Nov 2023

I got a bit miffed at consoles in general. I boxed up both the Series X and the PS5 and took them to Bestbuy. Traded them in for a PC.

I've rebought many of the Sony games on PC, Rift Apart, Horizon Zero Dawn, Returnal, Uncharted 4 includes lost legacy. (I double dipped on these games to have them in my Steam library)
I'll only be buying Sony games on PC from here on out. Already bought Ghosts of Tsushima, waiting on the Astrobots. Maybe Intergalactic if it's any good.

I only rebought 1 Xbox 1st party game because I was spending the money on Gamepass Ultimate. When I got the PC, I downgraded to PC GP.
I was using the Xbox as my 3rd party machine. I bought Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead 2, Elden Ring, Alan Wake 2.
I've rebought CP77 and Red Dead 2. I don't think I will revisit Elden Ring or finish Alan Wake 2. Maybe someday.

Both Sony and MS 1st party games have been a disappointment this generation.
Psychonauts 2 has been the 1 MS Gamepass game I rebought on Steam. I really love that game.

2024. I was always a Nintendo/Xbox guy. I would also have a PS1/2/3/4, but used them only in passing(hated the sticks).

Left because they decided not to be a console anymore, pushing playing with PC players. Bye.

Was with them since the OG Xbox. Used to have lan parties for Halo. Now dead to me.

Have gotten used to the PS5 horrendous controller, and 15min battery life.

2011/2012 is when their focus seemed to switch from spending their money on M rated exclusives to Project Natal (Kiect). That was when my focus shifted away from Xbox.

After Kinect was a mini-hit, they seemed to think Halo, Gears and Forza were going to be enough to keep core fans interested in the brand. I was bored of those series at that point.

And then they announced the Xbox One...

:messenger_hushed:

PlayStation had TLOU and some interesting games for the PS4 launch. Than came Bloodborne, which is the GOAT for me. I was also PC first by that point.

I guess I'd go with 2013, though... it's not like I stopped buying the Xbox consoles. I eventually bought the Xbox One X and the Series X when they were heavily discounted, but this was years after they originally came out, and it's only for a scant few games (almost all 3rd party) that for one reason or another run better on the Xbox than any other platform. Either way, the Xbox One era was where I felt that clear shift towards the Xbox being kind of irrelevant.

Twice. First time in 2013. Disaster of a launch, 0 momentum after throwing away a solid lineup to push the Kinect in the 360's final years and for some stupid reason, thinking that was the best way forward next gen and all the TV crap, amongst their other retarded ideas.

Then in 2021, bought a Series X, sold it by the end of the year cause it was the same old shit MS have been doing since they made the Kinect. 0 games. Promising everything. Yet failing every single time. Thought Gamepass was utter wank and all. Rammed to the gills with just shit. Even their first party output was poor when I got to play Gears 4 and that. Literally only used it to replay the old Halos and Gears Of War 1-3.

Left for PS3 never went back

Due to people who were like colt Eastwood back then

Halo was my last big game along side rainbow six Vegas

I left in 2022 after I finished Elden Ring, which I had started on Xbox. The reason was that I was living a multicountry life, and had to choose which consoles I carry with me around the world, and Xbox just didn't have anything exclusive that would have compelled me to keep on the platform, whereas PS5 had a decent amount of good stuff, like Astrobot and Spiderman. I then switched by always-Xbox franchises to PlayStation - Call of Duty and From Software games.

In 2025. It no longer makes sense to invest in a dead platform, especially after I built myself a new powerful PC. I don't think I've turned on the XSX in several months, so I think I should sell it. The end of an era.

I was out after the Xbox One reveal. Stuck to PC gaming until Bloodborne released, then PS4 for really just that game.

Still on PC.

The entire company has been a clownshow and never has come close to its 360 glory days.

I would kill for them to just have that output again, but that any changing with the two people in charge and the greater MS culture.

LOL

I'll never been more happier with my Xbox console. My issues are more with the inept management, but the console is amazing and the game lineup is up the best it's ever been on Xbox IMO

I left earlier, but i will say, Nelson annoyed me when he snapped at Angry Joe about not being able to just turn off the DRM on the bone. cew a week later, they say they will turn it off with day 1 update

The beginning of the end for me was the shambolic Xbox One, particularly the bullshit that was the Master Chief Collection release.

Console wise, 2025. I finally sold my Xbox Series X which made no sense when having a desktop PC under my TV. I'm still in the ecosystem with game pass, but not sure for now long.

There hasn't been a great game for them in years.

LOL at all these poofs

Poofs? 😂
Mate, you're the one who wears sega and xbox underwear.

Xbox was my first and last Xbox console.

I liked playing Morrowind, Doom 3, Dead or Alive 3, and especially Halo 1/2, and Timesplitters 3 on it. But didn't really have anything to look forward to for its future console besides Halo 3 so never got a Xbox console again. I went full on PC after selling my PS3 and Wii.

In hindsight I think the best time to have left was in 2010-11. Because after that they went all in on casual stuff in the middle of that gen. First it was them concentrating on Kinect at the tail end of 360 then going even more casual with kinect+tv,tv,tv. I was already beginning to move away when I bought a late PS3 with MGS4 but was using the 360 the most. I decided to stick around though and bought XB1 at launch, then got rid of it a couple of years later. Most of my library developed on PS4. Never looked back. My PS5 is like my 360 and PS2 now. Getting all the good games. Couldn't care less that a lot of stuff is timed just like i didn't for Bioshock, Mass effect, GTA3, MGS2 etc.
