Fallout 3 is so freaking good.

Fallout 3 with the DLC is probably the best post-apoc RPG I've ever played. So many things to do. VATS is probably the greatest battle system for a first person RPG ever conceived. It's a shame they had to drop it for '76 (well and it's a shame that 76 sucked so bad in general).

The desert is boring as shit.

Playing NV on launch day, I was so excited to see what horrors the Mojave desert held. There was a crashed plane and some radscorpions. One of them was big. The End.

Or at least that's how it went after restarting the whole game because deputy shithead got stuck in the ceiling at Primm.

Bit of thread ressurection but, last year at this time was rumour after rumour of a fallout 3 remaster. I haven't seen anything about that this year. Is there a chance anymore?

By far my favorite Fallout game. I liked the first Fallout games, but lets be honest; they weren't great-looking games. Never understood why the game was harshly criticized by fans i.e. calling it "Elder Scrolls IV with guns" or some other non-arguments. As with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 was pretty much synonymous with the Xbox 360, and a game I thoroughly enjoyed on that system. There were plenty moments of awe, it has a great start, the world was very interesting and atmospheric, the V.A.T.S. combat system was great, as were the game's quests and consequences from the player's choices.

It's among the best RPGs ever made in my opinion, and in my top 10 of 7th generation games.

Love Fallout. Even liked F4.

76 on the other hand yikes :messenger_confounded: Didn't F4 sell really well? Why even bother making something as hideous as f76 in the first place when they could have made F5 instead.

I loved fallout 3 a lot.

It had a great mix of emptiness to explore in that you weren't constantly tripping over a settlement and a fetch quest, hidden things like the hidden forest area which was awesome to stumble into after already beating it like twice without seeing it, it had a sense of actually being mature with the slavery storyline, and it just was a lot of fun to play.

I thought fallout was very boring and I didn't enjoy it. It had some good moments but it just felt like it was safe and had no edginess to it, I was const being pushed to do some quest, had no sense of an apocalypse beyond its art design, it felt like someone watched some gameplay of fallout on YouTube and said "I'm going to make one of those but I'll add in building, farming for building supplies, and I'll full its teeth so everyone can enjoy this"

I enjoyed playing Fallout 3 because it was Fallout in 3D. The main story was aight but the side quests were pretty bland. The travelling through the metro system bored me a bit.

I preferred NV because it felt more like Fallout 1 and 2.

I like fallout tactics (the one on PC where you were in a squad, not the abortion they released on consoles)

Fallout 4 was, meh tbh. The power armour was a crap idea and the game crashes all of the fucking time. I hate the settlements idea and the 'twist' was pretty dumb.

Fallout 76 was a waste opportunity imo. They should have taken the base building and settlement building from Fallout 4, mixed it with team/co-op raids like Fallout:tactics. That way you had a ready made single player game made from current assets AND the groundwork for a team-based fallout multiplayer that would work without being too screwy with the lore or genre.

Fallout 3 > Fallout: New Vegas.
Change my mind.

I traded New Vegas in a week after I bought it back in the 360 days. It was so different from 3, I couldn't get into it.

It wasn't till a few years later that I bought it again on Steam. I definitely agree now that New Vegas is superior to Fallout 3.

After 50 hours of play time, I ended up giving up in the middle of the Old World Blues DLC.
I was just bored throughout the whole thing.
The only highlight was the secret society side quest in the casino in New Vegas.
Fallout 3 never bored me at any point, even with the lackluster main story.

Fallout 3 did a really good job at throwing the WTF factor at me. After the introductory quest, you are thrown into this own new world. Wtf is going on? Where is my dad? Why did he run?

You start to lose sight of the main quest after wandering a bit because the game does a good job at shifting your attention to the various side quests in the world. Fallout 3 was a joy to play through and it had a much more emotional impact on me than Fallout 4. I didn't like Fallout 4 because it was so cluttered. The base building mechanics was too distracting, and it was clear that they should have not have made that mechanic and focus on other areas of the game.

I both loved and hated it. It was amazing early on, but I grew jaded and disappointed as I got further in. It didn't help that I was playing the broken PS3 version but I think I would have grown unhappy with the game either way.

There's still nothing like a slow-mo vats headshot kill.

Disagree, I love the look of the first 2 Fallouts, especially Fallout 2.

Lets agree to disagree then. (y)

The world in Fallout 3 to me, is much more alive and detailed. You can't get to see a Gob hitting his radio in one of the first two games to mention only one small detail. I think Bethesda did the series justice by improving on the original titles. Again, not saying they are bad games by any means, but things worked out better in Fallout 3 in part thanks to a fully explorable 3D world, at least in my book.

I've replayed both games extensively recently (99.9% vanilla).

Fallout 3: GOTY Edition

+ The memorable opening leaving Vault 101
+ The oppressive and gloomy setting
+ The big density of interesting locations
+ The huge amount of underground locations and connected metro systems
+ The random, "chaotic" nature of encounters in the Wasteland
+ The huge amount of lore and backstories to be explored, sometimes even subtle and non-written
+ Contrary to the consensus, I think there is enough choice and freedom in the game
+ And there are plenty of consequences to actions, even though they sometimes are not directly perceived

- The leveling system
- The lack of crafting and ability to modify items

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

+ Springvale is a great place to start
+ More factions and companions to side with
+ Improved mechanics, assets, and character models
+ The ability to craft and modify items
+ The amount of variety in characters
+ Consequences are better handled
+ The feeling of isolation is more pronounced because of the larger space
+ Thematically great accompanying soundtrack

- Can be too overwhelming when it comes to choice
- A much smaller density of interesting locations
- You will learn exactly where enemies are located (no more randomness)

Both games have, in my opinion, a terrible color filter I turn off by modding them out.

base building crap

And if you think that's bad, the Nuka-World DLC when you takeover, requires you to balance Raider camps and Settler camps! Doing things for the Settlers reduces your Raider standings and vice-versa, and you have to kill or drive away your own settlers to give the Raiders camps, and balance the different raider factions as well.

I think I burnt myself out playing fallout 3 for a hundred + hours. I couldn't even complete new Vegas or 4 and got bored of both part way through. It's strange because I absolutely loved the 3rd one.

I LOVED Fallout 3, although there was major disappointment with the ending and realization your choices are meaningless. Where are my 300 endings Todd you bastard....
Shortly after I played New Vegas and couldn't finish it, I think by that time I had Fallout burnout or something. Fallout 4 was the same, played maybe 3 hours and put it down.
We want role playing games with freedom of choice, how hard is that to give the fans what we all want Bethesda? I'm cautiously optimistic for ESV but I think they've lost their magic as a studio. Hopefully they go all out to reverse the trend like when they developed Morrowind on the brink of bankruptcy.

I might be one of the few that actually liked 4 more than 3 and new Vegas. 4's story was mediocre at best, but I liked how everything didnt seem to have a colored filter over everything, you could keep playing after beating the story, and had better combat outside of vats.

Fallout 3 is the only single player game where I've put 100+ hours into it. The amount of content is staggering, and I have incredible memories regarding the quests in that game and reading all the log files in the vaults. In particular, with Tenpenny Tower, I strongly remember that I reunited the Ghouls and Humans in this tower and that, at first, they were getting along. I returned later to find out that the Ghouls had slaughtered all the humans in the tower, so then I went and killed all the Ghouls in an act of revenge.

Man, I loved FO3 so much. I loved New Vegas for what it was, but I loved the story and characters in FO3 more. If there could've been a blend of the two it would've been perfect IMO.

I was really disappointed with Fallout 3. Not enough story/dialogue/writing/choices/etc. Plus, I love TB games. But, in comparison to F4 with respect to those things, it's pretty good.

I had more fun with Fallout 3 than most open world rpgs - I typically get bored of all of them pretty quick but F3 kept my attention for a good 50 or 60 hours before I finally got bored.

Fallout 3 really nailed the atmosphere, exploration and art style of a wasteland of Post HD gaming era, it’s still the inspiration for many games or even movies, sadly that artist died from cancer after skyrim. Questing is actually fun too even though dialogue tree is pretty simplistic. With mods, console commands on PC it’s one of the best game of all time.

Vanilla game of fallout 4 is certainly worse than 3, though with mods and console commands adding tons of fun so it’s still one of my favorites this gen.

Not gonna happen with Bethesda because having good choices & CONSEQUENCES inherently means locking players out of content, which is contrary to Bethesda's philosophy of "any character can do anything they want, at any time"
