Fallout 4 game systems information thread

Huh that never happened to me in 3 or vegas. I always had my weapons in top shape because I always picked up everything. Isnt that what everyone did? :(

Yeah, me too. I always repaired my weapons if they went to below 75% durability.
But now that condition is gone, what'll be the determining factor for weapon jamming?

I really wish there was some post work done on the UI. It could look SO MUCH BETTER with some simple stuff.

Like so (30s in photoshop so not the best):

Here's a new piece of info - in Boston city you can walk inside any building without loading screen. Some buildings have elevators up -- during those rides it silently (and quickly) loads. Source: leaked video.

do we know what the differences are between difficulties?

Survival isn't permadeath or limiting saves, right? If it i just harder, less resources, more focus on crafting, while also better loot drops, then it seems like the most fun, immersive way to play.

Survival is indeed just more difficult with better loot.

No one knows concrete details. One assumes they explain it, which is where the leaker got the increased drop rate for Legends. That's all we know though. No one has yet to give info for the exact details.

Sounds like you are arguing against the arguer and not the argument. Typical

Since that thread was locked now you are here to spread your rubbish?

I don't know what grudge you have against CDPR and God Knows I don't even like Witcher 3 and considered it one of my purchase regrets but damn you're being really annoying.

So in end game scenario no body is "special" anymore? 10 in all stats across the board or is there a level cap? I thought it was said there was no cap.

I cannot wait to build my own town, I really hope it's a satisfying system.

It's the shit I was scared of ever since they've showed the footage at E3. 4 wheel dialogue are terrible and I knew Bethesda wasn't going to be component enough to have them be as expansive as previous games. Really disappointing. Worst of all their writing is subpar to Bioware's (who are not amazing either) so it makes no sense to go this route.

It probably takes a ungodly amount of time to get 10 in everything. When you level you have to choose between a special point or a perk, and many perks have multiple ranks

Most of the time conversations boiled down to just saying every line excluding stat specific actions and actual choices involving the course of the quest. Just a guess on my part but maybe they did it because of that? Just stick most the lines together so you weren't just going through dialog like a checklist.

In the case of New Vegas, there were times that where you have 4+ options of dialogue that you can say to someone that said the full line and wasn't categorize into certain departments. By that I mean, in F4 you only 4 options and they all are very short summaries ("HATE NEWSPAPER") and are categorized (Up option is always a question, left option is always neutral, right option is always negative, and down option is always positive.)

Just by looking at it it lacks the depth of the older games. Now we have people who have the game that agree.

And again I wouldn't mind if Bethesda's writing was amazing but it ain't. Not when you get something like "HATE NEWSPAPERS" as an option.

Ah. Quite a bit more boiled down. Well it's unfortunate it's been so simplified. Hopefully the reviews actually reflect if it's a problem throughout the whole game.

The map is only the size of Skyrim?

When I first played Skyrim it felt HUGE but not sure how it's gonna feel after playing The Witcher 3. How does Fallout 3's map compare to Skyrim? I felt that NV's map was a little small but FO3 felt much bigger.

I assume it will be much more dense, though, as it's Boston.

If you enjoy Bethesda games, you already know that the quests are a bit " dull " with little narrative, backstory or justification (You get to a town and everyone wants your help, without doing much, you do 4 silly quests and you're the guild master of some faction) which, coming this wear from The Witcher 3 or New Vegas, can be a bit dull, if this isn't an issue, I think it's borderline impossible that this game doesn't fascinate the fans of Bethesda

this worries me. witcher 3 spoiled me

Not to shit on this game, but I can't be the only one who's seeing this as Fallout 3 with better graphics? Seems very uninspired and "safe"...

This just sounds like a giant step backwards at the moment. The range of dialogue and options therein has always been the important part of Fallout for me. I don't care about the square miles and improved shooting, just give me the option to be someone other than Polite Hero or Jerk Villain.
My absolute biggest worry. Thought VO would be a horrible way to go but had no idea it'd get ME levels of simplified.

Disgusting compared to its predecessors at first glance, let's see how it actually plays. Sounds atrocious though and I have no hopes.

I'm a bit thick, could someone explain what's happening in the vid, i'm a bit lost.

Here's how hacking has worked since FO3:

When you click on a potential password, if it is incorrect, it'll tell you the number of letters that are "correct" (this is referred to as "Likeness" in Fallout 4). That number is not just the letters that are within the word that are correct, but their position within the word as well.

Words are not the only selectable entries on the screen, though. Any unit of characters that is between any type of brackets ( [ ], { }, or ( ) types) are also valid inputs (including brackets that are closed that have no characters between them), which will either reset your number of allowed attempts back to maximum, or remove an incorrect password from the board.

I'm a bit thick, could someone explain what exactly he's doing in the vid, i'm a bit lost.

If you click on closed brackets, parenthesis, or something along those lines in the interface, it will either remove a dud, or allow you to make more guesses which makes hacking a lot easier. A lot of people, including me, had no idea you could do that for a long ass time.

When you mouse over most characters they are highlighted as a single character. However some are highlighted as a grouping. These groupings are duds. When you click on the duds it will remove one of the incorrect passwords from the list. Keep doing this until there is only one word remaining in the list and you have then found your password.

Before this, hacking terminals used to be a guessing game. You had 4 chances to find the correct word. Most people would try 3 times and if they didn't have it yet they would exit the terminal and re-open the terminal to try another 3 times. If you don't exit the terminal and are wrong on the 4th try then you can never hack that terminal again.

Basically the video shows how to actually do the hacking puzzle. Most of us were doing it wrong the entire time. It was never meant to be a guessing game.

Any info on the existence of a Hardcore mode like NV? I was worried that Bethesda might not include it and would have to wait for mods

I don't think this character generator has been posted (?). It allows you to distribute your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats and see how they affect hp, ap and carry weight. Additionally, there is a nice visual presentation of the perks with detailed information if you click the pictures. It is not complete, but quite nice imo.

No hardcore mode. Bethesda doesn't like to acknowledge the things Obsidian did right. Couple that with no weapon conditions and we keep moving father and father away from an RPG shooter to a shooter with RPG elements.

Weapon condition was introduced to this series by Bethesda in Fallout 3. My guess is the felt that the combination of frequent upgrades / modifications through the new crafting on top of condition maintenance would have felt like too much micromanagement in the weapon system overall.
