Famitsu: Bits on KH3D, FFXI Vita, Dissidia and More

With KH3D being nearly halfway done, they might as well just make the Osaka team the main KH team, since the other one was sentenced to Versus development.

Yeah, because it's not like Osaka can't take assets from 3 PS2 games, or 1 PSP game or anything. Oh wait, they can, and probably are. Give them an HD game and we'll probably still be talking about it years later.

I was kidding :P (Guess I should have clarified that...)

Well, not about that last part, anyway.

You had (how many years now?) to create your own Monster Hunter clone but instead you choose to port FF11 to a handheld?

They have already made a Monster Hunter clone, it's Lord of Arcana for the PSP. Sales wise of course it's not.

With all due respect to FFXI and it's fans- Tanaka has been saddled with that damn game for too long.

Please, S-E. Let the man make other games again. He's actually very talented.

FFXI on Vita...

I want Lord of Vermilion 2 instead! :(

He touched FFXIV with his talent!

Osaka also did that PSP game and one of the PS2 games. And at the same time made two Mario Sports games too, this all just in the period since KH2. What has the Versus team done since KH2?

Helped with FFXIII development.

My point was that making them create HD assets, and design is considerably more time consuming than when you have the assets already created for you. Which is where Osaka, and Nomura's team are standing on. One having to create everything from the ground up, and the other who can recycle content. With that said, Birth By Sleep took a lot longer than it should have (3 years after announcement and supposedly in development for 2 years prior to that), and shows Osaka's development skills when they have to design things themselves.

After XIV they should never let that guy be in charge of anything ever again.

I almost lost my shot when I saw XI on Vita. Then I thought about it. Without a chatpad, I can't see how FF XIV (that's Final Fantasy 11 Vita, not Final Fantasy 14, duh) could possibly work. I guess you could do a touchscreen keyboard, but I post on GAF almost exclusively from my iPod these days, and even that small amount of typing is enough to get me frustrated some days (and it is my opinion that the iOS auto correct is pretty good most of the time). So I couldn't imagine having conversations in LS or trying to coordinate endgame on Vita).

Not to mention XI would be unbearable to play for me without Windower/Spellcast/Recast/Mappy. And I quit like a year ago anyways :(

3-4 years was what KH1-2 each took, so I'm not really convinced it refects all that badly on SE Osaka given their size and the fact they had other projects going at the same time. 3D is aldo bringing new worlds, I'm not sure it's going to be a recycle fest?

I can see a FFXI spinoff type thing for Vita. Something that lets you check AH, do questing, etc. Maybe zones that are Vita specific that are accessible via PC/360/ps2 as well, although with the recent patching to upgrade sprites and texts to HD resolutions PS2 may soon be drooped.

I don't think it's a good idea to for example let Vita players join the full game. Just imagine an event and having people drop in and out randomly, lag, random DCs etc.

But I like the idea, I thought they were going to do everything I said on a PSP version of FFXI six years ago. Heh.

Ffxi on the vita will not only force me to upgrade to the 3g system but force me into the shit at&t data plan. I'm torn :-/

ffxi vita just may be the thing that sucks me back to the game
choco digging anywhere i go
*drools*

Seriously, like I said Im shocked he still has a job.

I'm sure he was a talented designer back in the day but they clearly put something into the water at that studio. It makes people either flee in terror or go completely senile.

Still, I remember Tanaka getting all uppity when the players and press kept telling him his completely empty non-game was shit...and wasn't he in charge of that interface? Oh my god that interface.

is the ff14 ps3 version still in development or was it scrapped?

Limbo. Wada basically said they have no plans of releasing a PS3 version of FF14 that is [shit] like the PC version.

Er, I played all sorts of MMORPGs on 3G when I had it for my PC. Including ones with huge events.

It's not a connection issue perse, but if it's going to be used as a portable device, it's going to be difficult to manage people who come in and out.

But given that they're only investigating it, I'm not sure how feasible it is.

But as I noted, they've been slowly moving towards updating the games assets, and I suspect XI-HD will end up hitting all the next-gen and current gen consoles eventually given that XIV is a failure and they'll need to keep their on-line cash cow producing for the next five years.

They also recently announced XI will soon be decoupled from PlayOnline for good and PlayOnline itself will be shut down.

Oh wow, I missed that. Finally! lol
I guess it's only a matter of time before they remove PS2 support. The last set of add-ons were not even installable on the PS2 HDD at one point. They had to do some major optimization just to get everything on there.

Aren't the majority of FFXI players in Japan primarily PS2 users?

It seems like Square-Enix has been investigating just about everything recently.

Someone needs to investigate their CEO and why he is so god damn awful at running that company.

This. Wada has been completely useless. How did they even think of making a game like Gun Loco? (now cancelled).

bits on XIII-2.
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/13/ffxiii_2_famitsu_interview/
Nomura said that he believes players will have a chance to try out the game soon.

The question, of course, is what Nomura means by "soon." Many had expected a playable build to be Square Enix's main attraction at the Tokyo Game Show, which will be held in mid September, a few months ahead of the game's December Japanese release.

Although TGS is two months away, he could be referring to it. Or, as early fans of Noel's good looks must be hoping, perhaps he's referring to a pre-TGS demo event or even a downloadable demo.

Also in his Famitsu interview, Nomura reiterated the character design division of labor for FFXIII-2. He's working on the faces for Noel and the new characters. Clothing and other areas are being drawn by Yusuke Naora and Isamu Kamikokuryou. His main role on the game is character design supervision.

Reactions from those who actually played FFXIII-2 at E3 was good, Nomura remarked. He's disappointed that some are judging it just based off videos from E3, though. He feels that players will truly get the feeling of what the staff is putting into the game when they see it running on actual hardware, and said that the impression when you directly play differs greatly from seeing videos.

Famitsu also spoke briefly with Kamikokuryo, the game's art director. Kamikokuryo said that he's currently working on the sketches of the visual that will be shown around the time of the game's release.

FFXI was the number 2 subscription MMO for about half a decade(number 1 for the brief time before WoW came out). Something Warhammer and Age of Conan, among others, couldn't do lol. While it never hit 1 mil active at one time, it shows the strength of building a fanbase rather than dipping into WoW's pool.

Would only work on the Vita if they revamped the game for it. However, the FFXI team up until recently has been legendarily cheap and slow. Still, though, who knows with the current environment. I would have preferred a post-fixes FFXIV.

LFG? Where we're going we don't need LFG

I love this kind of interviews where the interviewee states basically nothing!
I mean, Kingdom Hearts series has lived upon contents (especially more of the same), why don't reveal some new world or character just to feed fans and to increase the hype in the project? Giving the TGS trailer, there are some new interesting gameplay elements and at least one new world (Hunchback of Notre-Dame), therefore this chapter will be more Birt by Sleep-ish than 358/2 Days-ish, so c'mon Nomura!
