I'm sure Japanese third parties don't think PS5 and Switch shouldn't be compared since one of those actual seems to be selling software in Japan, the other is a niche device at this point without a single game with more than
100K physical sales.
As Retailers start to put together their PS section for 2022, Publishers will need to pay a lot to market exclusive since the entire store is likely looking like a Switch advert due to the loopsided competition between the two systems.
With chip shortages expected to continue into next year, PS's situation isn't going to be a lot better compared to this year which had T
ales of Arise, Demon Slayer, Scarlet Nexus, Resident Evil Village, Nier Replicant, Lost Judgement as the high profile Japanese exclusives, Western AAA third parties have already declined to their lowest sales in over a decade.
Nothing from a third party launching next year on the PS will reach even 1/5 of what
Monster Hunter Rise achieved this year on the Switch - which is around
500K, this year the highest selling title across the PS4/PS5 is
Tales of Arise which will finish at best with
300K physical sales this year.
Elder Ring is the first title that could potentially surpass
100K on the PS5 - so it should give us a good indication of what 2022 holds for the PS ecosystem. Meanwhile
Arceus alone is likely to outsell all games launched on the PS ecosystem during the first half of the year.
I'm sure when
Capcom sees 600% YoY growth in physical sales in Japan, due to their Switch exclusive titles
MH Rise &
MH Stories 2 they aren't thinking they need to focus on PS5 exclusive in order to help Sony make PS5 a thing in Japan
MHW2 is likely not planned to hit the system until 2023 and if it's not money-hatted and a Switch successor launches by than it might not even be exclusive to the PS5 in Japan
