Curious to see where the demand for Series X actually is in Japan. But to test that, we'd have to see MS ship at least 50K for a week, or at least 35K, and see what amount actually sold out.

I don't think demand is as abysmal as people think, but I also don't feel it's around PS5 or Switch levels, either. I'd probably put them at a cap of 15K - 18K Series Xs if they could get the supply there. Series S would probably be lower, which is ironic. Maybe 5K.

I actually think it'll be around 5-8K at best if supply was there. I think MS knows this too, hence why there's not much supply.

You're probably right. They did around 8K for Diablo 4's launch, and that's a pretty massive release. If demand were higher they would've pushed for more systems in that game's launch week in Japan.

I'm guessing for Starfield they will try getting 5K for Japan...maybe 8K-9K if they actually do a bundle (doesn't look like they will). Still it would be kinda funny to see what sold-through rate would be if they did supply 30K - 50K (mostly of the X) for a week. Maybe with some kind of Minecraft bundle :/

What is up with the Switch hardware sales, I didn't think Pikmin would be a system seller to keep the momentum going. Damn!

It fills my heart with immense joy to see Pikmin still going strong. Such a great game, and it deserves every sale it gets. Holy shit switch approaching 100k sales again for no reason lol, the machine is a monster.

It warms my heart to see a traditional home console selling 50k in back to back weaks. What have we done to deserve such sales. I thank the gaming gods every Thursday at 2pm.

What's next for ps5? Baldurs gate and armoured core? Followed by a ps5 slim?

Armoured Core, Spiderman and DQ Dai should be the biggest 3 games for PS for the rest of this year .

Things will be a bit slow for the next two weeks, but then we get Armoured Core followed by many interesting games in September to December.

So there will be lots to discuss!

PS3 < PS4? Wow. Mobile really did a number on them.
But PS3 sold more than PS4...
Seems like japan is content with switch forever.
As long as it gets good software support I think Switch could have a couple of good years left in Japan. But Nintendo knows they will get better software support if they release a more powerful successor.
Isn't OBON soon?
Yes you're right.

I was just thinking in terms of new releases, but the holidays should have a very positive effect on hardware and evergreens.

Whoops. That's what I meant.

I also posit that Switch had something to do with it.
Switch getting several former PS exclusives definitely didn't help, but the bigger issue is that a lot of the third party franchises that PS used to rely on (like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil) are in decline with not enough to replace them.

Not one Sony game. Sony have really a big problem in Japan, they have no games that sell in this country. It's not like they sell tons of their own games in western countries too...

Japan is a lost cause for 95% of developers lol, so why even try. Nintendo is a monopoly in japan. Sony does pretty good on software sales in western countries.

That's becuase they havn't released anything this year, last year Sony was the biggest publisher on PS5 in Japan.

Third parties can find success in Japan (Monster Hunter, Dragaon Quest, Elden Ring, Momotaro etc.) but they are not going to get it if they don't try. Its a big and growing market so trying is definitely worth doing.

Yall will never stop trying to push the narrative that software sales don't matter huh? So let me guess.............the best thing for PlayStation to do is to allow every 1st party game to be on a subscription service of some kind on Day One?

No at all. The best thing for Playstation would do to develop the games they were doing during PS3 and PS4 era.

You named 2 huge franchises that have sold for decades, one of the best games ever made, and momotaro i never heard of. A developer hitting big in japan not named Nintendo is like hitting the lotto.
