Fantasy Life - In-Depth Trailer [Level-5 / 3DS]

Over/Under: June 2014 for US release

Game looks like a lot of fun. It kind of reminds me of the Torko chapter from DQIV.

The only thing Level-5 is killing these days is themselves. Lol.

Oh shit. I hope you all like tapping the A button. I was a bit interested in this game at first, but it looks like it could be extremely tedious and repetitive. Guess no one will be mining in this game.

This actually looks quite enjoyable. I think this might actually fit my tastes better than 動物の森

Ugh it looks/sounds so gorgeous. Really wish they'd confirm this for the West.. if it does, consider me a new 3DS owner.

Edit: The music is hilarious to me for some reason. It's like Katamari-esque vocals.

That mini games (timing, tapping, etc) really looked it could become tedious really fast.

This game is going to bomba so badly, and it makes me real sad. Real sad, man.
It might do okay. Konami's AC clone (Magician's Quest) has done exceptionally, as did Capcom's Felyne spinoff, so there's at least some room in the genre for success outside the king.

On the other hand, launching after new 3DS installments of AC and MQ probably isn't one of Hino's smarter decisions. :/

Looking at Level 5's decisions this year I'd like to know what his smarter decisions are :/

I think what will really make or break this game is just how large of a community will it have. Seeing how very specific the jobs will be.

Will be interesting to see how it will use the multiplayer features / street pass etc.

Is anyone going to make an OT for this? I picked it up and it's surprisingly good. The atmosphere is nice and the music is catchy at times. There's a lot to do in the game as you'd expect of a game borrowing cards from Animal Crossing.

I actually prefer this from tobidase because of the setting.

More, more, I wanna know more! :P

I have (and love) Animal Crossing and for the most part can get past the language barrier, would the text prove too much of an obstacle in Fantasy Life? Thanks!

This feels more like Rune Factory than Animal Crossing, all the action RPG stuff. I hope NPC interaction is more detailed than both, just like Social Link system with Persona.

The kanji has furigana above it so those who haven't got experience with Kanji but can read and get by otherwise shouldn't have much difficulty.

It's casual in the way that AC is, so you won't need to work yourself into a fuss with understanding the text if you're not good with the language. It helps though, if you want to completely enjoy what is going on.

I haven't had chance to play much as of yet but I'll try get some time in later and give some more impressions. I'd make the OT myself but I honestly don't have time to go do all the fancy stuff that people do nowadays.

I'll be watching this game closely in the next few weeks (reading Amazon.co.jp reviews, watching sales charts) and make my decision based on that.

I think it's brilliant when it came out: just under two months after Animal Crossing. It probably won't explode, but there's potential with word of mouth from people who're putting down Animal Crossing.

Looks like a pretty neat little game - curious about the reviews.

Is this still by Brownie Brown, or did Level 5 completely take over the game? Or did Level 5 subsume Brownie Brown? Because they're not credited at all at the end of the movie.

It´s absolutely fantastic.

It doesn´t play like animal crossing at all. And it doesn´t play much like harvest moon either.

It´s more of an adventure game where you actually use all the stuff you collect, find or make. Make new weapons as a blacksmith or new clothes as a needleworker. But to do that you need cloth and ore.

So you need to set out as a prospector.

And so on.

Everything fits together in a very nice way.

I am having a blast so far and I´ve barely scratched the surface.

How's the story so far? Does it change according to the job you chose?

Great game.

I've played this about 10 hours and I am really liking it. I am still in the starting area, switching professions. I get each one up to the ippashi (second rank after you graduate from novice) rank and then switch. They each have a short story that you need to play through before you can switch again. Once I have all the gathering and crafting professions, I'll go with kings guard profession and start exploring further out and doing the main story with all the armor, weapons, food (buffs), and potions I've crafted.

I am not sure if it will last, but it is pretty fun so far. If you like gathering and crafting it is definitely fun. The crafting mini-games are pretty much the same across for all professions, only with different animations and work tables. Still it was fun chopping down trees to make furniture for my home.

The combat is kinda simple, but I haven't tried much but the starting dagger and bow you get with the huntsman profession. I haven't fought any boss fights either.

I've played a couple hours and it's a lot of fun. Very cute and charming. Sort of a Dragon Quest feel to it as well.

When I logged into the Nintendo eshop last night with the cartridge in my system it prompted me to download a patch, called "Ver. 1.1". Seems to fix some important bugs.

Sounds like exactly like my kind of game! Now all it needs is monster collecting... :D Thanks for the write up!

Lets hope now for an english release :3

It better hit other regions. Fantasy Life was a slight contribution as to why I bought the 3DS.

While I enjoyed the first hour or two, I ended up really not liking this game as time went on and I happily traded it in last week (for more than I paid for it brand new!). It is really just a game where you do a bunch of boring tasks, mixed in with some really bland combat. I think it is a good game for kids as their first RPG, and it is very cute and has some charm to it. But ultimately it's another Level 5 crapfest that looks pretty and sounds nice but it is either a chore or a bore to play. Also, it takes like 10 seconds to save every time you save, which becomes really irritating after awhile. I've never had a game save take so long!

Still selling out everywhere in Japan, so it seems very popular among some segments of the 3DS install base.

FF IV on the PSX is a great port with a nice fresh localization.

It however takes almost three minutes to save. I swear the first time it happened I thought the game had frozen.

Haha, let me tell you about a dark time called the 32-bit era.

I've been playing games since the Colecovision days. I'm well aware of the 32-bit era. Can't recall a game that took 10+seconds for a save to complete (but maybe my memory is just bad!).

Also, let's keep in mind Fantasy Life is on a cartridge.

Really? Wow. I skipped on the PSX ports of the SNES FF games as I already played them years earlier. Looks like that was a good idea.

It's a really decent version of the game besides that. Unlike VI it has no load times and unlike V it isn't absolutely horrible.

It's probably something they meant to fix but never got around to it.
