Fast company: Will Wii U Join The Gaming Graveyard?

The Wii U might not be selling great now, and it might not be able to sell that great in the future, but when their "gaming graveyard" is comprised of consoles like the Bandai Pippin. Coleco Telestar, Atari Jaguar, and Neo Geo CD, I can't take the site seriously when they add the Wii U to that list as well. The Wii U will probsbly surpass all those consoles' LTD in a few months ffs

What is Fast Company?

It's trying to be an entrepreneurial magazine for the internet age -- has articles like "where to find funding for your start up" and shows you niche businesses on the West Coast mainly. I used to read them until I realized that I didn't need it.

There are some amazing examples of failed consoles in there, such huge failures that I've never even HEARD of some of them.

Like what in the blue hell is this thing?!

Yes. Two and a half months after release, is entirely the right time for such a sensible and considered headline. Well done guys.
Isn't this the same line people use(d) for the Vita, increasing month after month despite showing no signs of it being anything other than a disaster? It's only been six months! Eight! You can't judge it yet!

This entire generation is going to be a graveyard -- three bumbling dinosaur companies that are hilariously out of touch with the current landscape of the consumer electronics market.

I know people who still ask me if this is just a new controller for the Wii.

You should video tape it next time it happens. We will compile a compilation video and send it to Nintendo's new ad agency.

Articles and analysts keep putting out shit like this because they get paid doing it. They'll all be out of a job as long as we ignore it. It's fine to criticize something but not without any real rational thought behind it.

Just ignore it people...or don't. I like the gifs.

Well, yes. We should start to give no attention at all to people like this. No threads, no discussion, etc.etc. I know it seems drastic, but the less attention this people get, the better.

They have 653k followers on twitter and I'm surprised some of you don't know what fastcompany is. Its a great business/tech culture mag. so this write up has a bit of reach.

I did lol when they wrote this "by much more powerful machines like Sony's PS3". Can you imagine what happens when D+O hits?

Their "graveyard" also includes the Sega Saturn and Nintendo Gamecube, which weren't the best-sellers of their respective generations by any stretch of the imagination, but aren't usually what I think of when I think of "utter failure". Saturn's closer than Gamecube, but still managed to survive for a good four years in the West, and thrived in Japan...

If they can keep game budgets under control, I think they can sustain a market. If things continue on the trajectory of what was established under the last generation, I'm afraid you might be right.

Yeah those 150 million + costumers that bought a PS3/360 just disappeared over night and were replaced by smartphone/tablet/F2P zombies.
Everybody should stop making consoles and games.

I don't think many people remember hardware sales pre-Wii. Everyone should just be ready for Sony and MS doomed threads and articles when they fail to achieve huge numbers.

Even if Wii U only hits Gamecube numbers worldwide it'll shift a hell of a lot more software. New Super Mario Bros, Wii Fit, Nintendo Land, Mario Kart will all do millions more than their equivalent (if there was one) on Gamecube.

man i wish the wii u was the dreamcast. that would have meant us waiting for a year to get 2nd-gen games while japan had to sort through the post-launch woes though. but all those 2nd-gen games were great. 2000 was a really weird year.

Well it has no 3rd party support, Nintendo doesn't seem to be in a hurry to release games for it and more powerful consoles are coming this year.

As of right now it looks doomed than not doomed.

We'll continue seeing these types of articles up until the next console is announced. At that point the negative focus will be on that console.

Wow, I double posted 40 posts later...

So I'm just gonna say, lol at the Dreamxast pic
Hopefully we end up with a library just as awesome

Dreamcast had a bunch of awesome arcade games. VC Arcade can only dream of such glory.

Differences:

Nintendos upcoming support of the WiiU: X, Mario, Mario Kart U, Wii Sports U, Wii Fit U, Wonderful 101 etc.

Sonys upcoming support of the Vita: Jak

I don't understand why people want Nintendo, Sony, and/or Microsoft.

It's like when system doesn't do amazingly well it's doomed forever.

Way too early to be making these types of articles. Even if the Wii-U sells half as many units as the Wii, it could still be considered a success for Nintendo.

If it does I'm going to have to figure out how the hell I'm going to get an Nvidia shield and a PC with the appropriate graphics card. I love the system and what it can do. It's too soon to say it's doomed, for sure, but that doesn't mean that it isn't.
