Fastest you've completely abandoned a $60 game after purchase

Star Fox 0. Didnt pay full price but I still feel the sting of paying 30 just to give up two missions in. Keep telling myself Ill go back, but I dont think I will. The controls arent for me at all and theres too many aspects that with small changes would be palletable that I dont think im ever going to have that magic "click" moment with them.

Ah, this. I tried to give it a few days, but as a huge fan of Melee, I just couldn't wash the taste of disappointment off my mouth.

Smash 4 is much better, but I still go back to Melee. It is my Game of Forever ( the only other game worthy of that title - for me - is Rocket League ).
 
I can't think of too many that I abandoned quickly just for being terrible. The Order I spent maybe an hour with. And there was a Saga game on PS2 I ditched pretty quickly. I forget if it was Romancing Saga or Unlimited Saga.
 
I think I haven't done that. Everytime I bought a new game is because I'm 100% sure the game I'm getting with my hard earned money will be worth it. When I still have my doubts, I prefer to wait after the game released to read people's impressions on GAF/Online since I don't trust critique reviews that much.

to defend him .. after the third part of the world unlocked i kinda stopped caring.
But tbh i am having severe open world games fatigue
 
Fallout 4.

Ran terrible which is even worse considering it looked terrible (Ps4)

But I probably could have looked past that if it weren't for the fact that about 2-3 hours I had to talk to some person for a quest who was walking back and forth on a set path.

Talking to him didn't break his pathing cycle so he would just keep walking and breaking out of the conversation, made the quest unfinishable. Game had been out for almost two months at this point so I said fuck it, uninstalled it and will remember to never buy Bethesda developed games until they actually put a solid effort in on a new engine.
 
Halo 5

Loved halo 1,2,3, reach but for some reason halo lost its touch for me by the 5th. I guess it was mainly the weapons in the game and what not. Just me I guess since everyone else enjoys it. I only played 3 times before letting it sit in dust.

Dragon Age Inquisition. As soon as I realized that "leaving the Hinterlands" doesn't change a damn thing except the coating of the lifeless world I immediately noped out of that game.

The thirst for a decent RPG was real during that early PS4 time.

See, this is the difference between your explanation and theirs: at least with you I can tell that it's something beyond "lolz game is boring." Sounds like you've played several open world games (maybe even in a row), and this is the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Maybe come back to it at some point in the future?
 
Sm4sh. Got back into Smash and PM in Japan, was beyond hyped for 4 after seeing early screens. Got it and played it for a week but was disappointed. Check in again periodically but I'm always disappointed and go back to PM.
 
Star Wars Battlefront (2015). It wasn't terrible or anything, just really repetitive and simple. I had trouble staying entertained after a couple of matches.
 
Tie between Fallout 4 and Assassins creed unity. Got about 3 hours into each

Unity running like utter crap(not that fallout 4 doesn't either) and I just couldn't deal with its jank. I ended up looking up the story after and think I made the right call since it basically offered nothing to the original story, but instead was kind of its own thing.

Fallout 4 was just too much of the same. Not bad but I just didn't want to play another fallout like I thought I did.
 
Im having a real hard time with CoD:IW/MW:R

I said I wasnt going to buy it, but I did cuz Im an idiot.
And now I cant bring myself to play it.
Yep, Im an idiot. But I believe I finally learned my lesson here.
 
Fallout 4. Got maybe 4 hours out of it. Within a couple hours I said fuck the story and did settlement stuff, but it was too clunky and just gave up on the entire game. Biggest let down in a while for me.
 
I paid $80 CAD for No Man's Sky, bought it digitally, so I couldn't even trade it in. What a taste of money

Played it for a couple of days before deleting it
 
Halo 5. 2 hours. Dreadful campaign. Considering that's what I come to Halo games for, it was utterly useless to me. RIP.
Bought it used though, so got my money back. Won't get those 2 hours back though.
 
I would have to say Black Ops 3. I think I played only one multiplayer match and maybe the first 15 or so minutes of the story mission. I really need to stop buying CoD games since I don't play them that much anymore.
 
Yea it was certainly No Mans Sky. I usually know whether I am going to like a game if I am going to spend 60 quid on it, that was the exception and I won't be doing that again. Destiny is a close second, though I did enjoy it, there was no way I was going to be playing it long term.
 
Most recently it's got to be No Man's Sky. The only reason is because I got sick of visiting barren planet after barren planet. A few trees would've been nice.

I really do try to buy only my staples at full price though.

Considering just how I played the original, 64, 64 3D and the others. 2 hours might have not been enough for the controls to "click" but I just said the hell with it. I am envious of people who can understand the scheme since some levels look legit as hell.

DAMN SHIGGY.
 
I made it like half way through one run of Star Fox Zero before giving up. The parts with the little hoverdrone thing with the tiny robot weren't fun at all, and I don't think the controls for the arwing were worth it. Look at the TV to see where you are and what's going on around and then look down at the gamepad to aim and fire. I could see what they were going for but the constant switching was annoying and I don't think there's anything to be gained by that control scheme that would make up for it.

I'm totally fine with learning unique control schemes. Kid Icarus: Uprising and The Wonderful 101 are two of my favourite games. But Star Fox Zero wasn't worth it to me, and I say that as a massive Platinum Games fan.
 
Paper Mario Color Splash. Beat the first boss and stopped playing.

I loved the humour, but the combat was just so damn dull. Fights that should have been over in 10 seconds dragged on for much longer due to the stupid card system. The combat system in the earlier Paper Mario games was perfect, so why ruin it with these shitty gimmicks?

I want to go back to it soon, but I'm finding it hard to give a shit about it at this point.
 
MGS Twin Snakes. I bought the Gamecube for it (and RE4), played through once and never touched it again. MGS is the best game ever and this is the worst.
 
Star Fox Zero -

Played through the first 3 levels. Replayed those same levels a few more times trying to get used to the controls. Finally after a couple hours playing the game that was supposed to restore the Star Fox franchise, I deleted it from my Wii U vowing never to play again.

Whoever pushed for those garbage controls, the need to look up and down between the tv and the Wii U game pad, and the multiple control modes throughout a level needs to be banned from making games ever again.

It's too bad that the controls have such a huge learning curve, because once you get it down the game is pretty enjoyable.
