FEEL THE BERN: Beware Dark Souls 3 PC/Steam users

As a console player, I have to say this is just baffling, and very frightening, to me. I'm glad it doesn't seem to be an issue on console.

Thinking about it some more, how come this isn't an issue on PS4 and XBO, but is on PC? The main difference I can think of between these platforms is that you have to pay to play online on consoles but not on PC. Maybe the money they get from the subscription fees allows Sony and Microsoft to keep cheaters away, while Valve lack the money to do so because they insist on not charging for multiplayer. Maybe having to pay to play online makes users more careful so that they avoid cheating in fear of losing their money.

We gamers need to do something about this situation. Maybe if we start boycotting Valve until they get their heads out of their asses and start charging for online play, we can make a change to make PC a more customer friendly platform. I think if we band together on Twitter and try to get #ValvePaidOnline trending, we can make a change for the better for the PC platform and give Valve the resources to deal effectively with cheaters.

I agree.

Wouldn't it be nice if all steam games had VAC system and if you get VAC banned everything gets restricted on that account(Multiplayer games, all items etc). Though, I guess false flags could be a problem.

I'm glad forum members don't run companies.

Who are you voting for in the primaries? Can I interest you in some literature regarding why Bernie Sanders would make an excellent 45th Pesident of the United States of America?

Further to this, while some defeatists like to throw around figures like, "Sanders is trailing by almost 300 pledged delegates!," well, that represents little more than a flesh wound and after Bernie positively routs Guam and the Virgin Islands, he'll be virtually unstoppable.

I don't understand why Bernie Sanders is a PSA edit.

His detractors are every bit as obnoxious as his supporters.

Most of the threads created about him are from those who don't favor him.

Was taken for a ride. 9,2/10

I for one hope to see #ValvePaidOnline to be trending by tomorrow.

Woof!

Thanks for the warning but, because I'm weak, I already play all the Souls game offline anyways. I've never liked PvP in that game.

The last 24 hours of cheating/hacking on multiplayer PC games have been absolutely bizarre

On one hand you got a company issuing bans with their anti-cheat system to users of a few notorious cheat mods and on the other you have cheaters flagging legitimate players as cheaters with an anti-cheat system that is an more an enemy to said legitimate players than it is the cheaters.

Taking the bosses mano-e-mano is manly enough to balance out any loss of manliness from fear of PvP, anyway. Bonus points for not having online messages to warn you about the ambushes every five seconds. (Hint: It's always an ambush.)

Was supposed to start playing DS3 on PC this weekend but after the Kotaku article and this, I'm going to postpone until FromSoft gets ther shit together.

It wouldn't be so bad if the Softban wasn't a hard ban because From can't police their shit.

And they wont let the community do it for them. There is a community mod for PVP in DS1 that probably would stop this but you'd probably get soft banned using one in DS3 because the anti cheat system was made by the person they talk about in lightbulb jokes.

Yup. That's why there was never one for DS2 because their anti-cheat system flags mods, lol.

I'm confident those wronged by this will have resolution soon enough. Automatic systems always have their loopholes, Valve/FROM are most certainly not ignorant to this fact.

I just find it hard to believe that they're gonna ignore this after it was archived on YouTube, forums and social media are filling up, news sites will likely be reporting next week and they still have dlc to sell everyone.

Fuck knows how many people he got while he was streaming but it seemed like a significant amount

How is it even fucking possible that this has gone on for more than half an hour.
Seriously. One communication to either FROM or Valve should take care of it.

Yup. The creator of the Dark Souls watchdog tool said he couldn't do anything with Dark Souls 3 because of the way the current anti-cheat works. If FromSoft can't do it properly may as well take it out and let the community do it instead

That too. PC Souls would probably step up on stomping out the griefers and the like systems. But From won't allow it, nor will allow folks to host their own "shards" on PC a la Dedicated Servers. They're getting better at PC support but this one aspect is still lost on them in a way.

Communication isnt any of these companies strong suits.

I'm surprised Miyazaki and FROM hasnt come out on this at least with a statement.

Online is a core part of Dark Souls since the beginning so I'd much rather they comment and address this before "adjusting the game weapon balance" like the latest patches seem to be.

I'm not a developer so no idea how hard it is to "fix" this online hacking problem but DS is a premier AAA title so they risk losing the faith of their fans if this isnt address.

I say this as both a PS4 and PC dark souls 3 player btw.
