FEEL THE BERN: Beware Dark Souls 3 PC/Steam users

Bandai Namco support is saying otherwise, that you just have to remove whatever is triggering the "invalid game data" prompt ASAP to stay unbanned

Like I said in a previous post, my wife's account was flagged the first time she launched the game, so there was no "invalid" data for her to remove at the time. The "caution: invalid data was detected" message persists on her account until this day, but she was never actually banned with the follow-up message that says you have been penalized because invalid data remains on your account. So, it seems there's no escaping the "friendly reminder" once your account is flagged.

At least it's not one infested with players like these :^)

The PC version isn't "infested", it has a small number of players with defects trying to ruin the game for others. The game is incredible on PC, and I'd rather play offline until it's fixed than play it on console with the constant frame rate and frame time issues, the experience is night and day.

6 hours of ruining peoples weekend for good measure.

Aiight

Not gonna lie, despite being able to play offline etc it completely killed any interest I had in playing Dark Souls 3 this weekend. Not that I think I would run into hackers or anything, but it just put me off tbh.

I mean it seemed like he couldn't be hit and was invisible. I assumed if he encountered another cheater it would be a stale mate.
The other hacker was floating in the air away from the map. The hacker decided to teleport to the floating hacker and fell into the abyss then screwed up the games camera angle when he teleported back to the surface. Resulting him to suicide.

you really have to wonder how pathetic and awkward the dude must be in social situations. Makes me feel better about myself tbh. He probably looks at the ground when others talk to him.

Yesterday I got the "You cannot change equipment at this time" after I got invaded before the Tree boss, I hope it's not related to the ban.
I noticed I couldn't wear Sunbros ring, but I could change weapon, shield and armor.

No, you just can't change covenant items while playing multiplayer

That seems like a weird glitch in their system. I hope in the next patch that they make some tweaks to the ban system.

But anyway, it's also proof that they don't automatically ban people who have their account flagged. So it's not a 1/1 thing.

But anyway, if enough people say something, and because the stream was made public it's more likely that these people affected will not be banned, as long as the affected parts are gone (i.e. killing themselves once so the souls are gone and the dragon transformation is gone)

EDIT: Lol, just realized that FEEL THE BERN is the PSA filter, I thought the original poster actually used it on purpose. ha ha

Why is OP banned?

Damn, that such a thing is even possible...

Name calling. I messaged him saying to remove it, and he did, but it's the reality of signing up to a message board and not being able to show restraint even when emotional and then ending up breaking clear rules. No one wants to be on the receiving end of being called crass names.

Oh I'll be back soon enough :P Probably the fact I'm quite tired after this week at work doesn't help either, I'm spending more time surfing GAF than playing games lol.

Yeah im waiting for Overwatch myself to start in a few days :D
Watching stuff and browsing GAF.

Yeah well Noone wants to be on the receiving end of losing your money. If one can't even trash talk scum then what kind of place is this...

I´m gonna start playing Dark Souls 3 next weekend but just to be sure: Am i 100% safe if i choose "offline" in the menu?

Thanks!

?¿?

What? The remark made was to a GAFer not the person on YT. Anyway I digress too much, moderators handled things.

Also glad this is over on livestream. Hope we hear from From soon about what they are going to do.

Can I just block this guy on steam and not have to deal with him?
Dont think matchmaking is affected by steam user block at all.

You can always do it for good measure.

If you select "Start in Offline" restart your game and you will see a option named "Log In" under "Continue".

At this point unless you click "Log In" you are offline and safe.

Yes, choose OFFLINE and you won't run into any players. You may still be invaded by NPC invaders. But they are only NPC's

1. Choose "Start in Offline" in menu
2. Restart game
3. Click "Continue instead" of "Log in"

But watch out for another hacker named Longfinger Kirk ;)

Am I missing some kind of joke here?

No no, not at all, it's been long known that GAF is just a front for the moderation team to use as their platform to sway the favour towards Bernie Sanders in the upcoming election. Evilore has conspired with Bernie for years in exchange for a spot as VP.

Ahh of course. *Purely* satire :P

Whenever someone invades me it's usually at the most inopportune moment so I usually just suicide off a cliff just to not give the invader the satisfaction of landing the killing blow. Take my Lord of Cinder status and your token of victory and fuck off.

As a console player, I have to say this is just baffling, and very frightening, to me. I'm glad it doesn't seem to be an issue on console.

Thinking about it some more, how come this isn't an issue on PS4 and XBO, but is on PC? The main difference I can think of between these platforms is that you have to pay to play online on consoles but not on PC. Maybe the money they get from the subscription fees allows Sony and Microsoft to keep cheaters away, while Valve lack the money to do so because they insist on not charging for multiplayer. Maybe having to pay to play online makes users more careful so that they avoid cheating in fear of losing their money.

We gamers need to do something about this situation. Maybe if we start boycotting Valve until they get their heads out of their asses and start charging for online play, we can make a change to make PC a more customer friendly platform. I think if we band together on Twitter and try to get #ValvePaidOnline trending, we can make a change for the better for the PC platform and give Valve the resources to deal effectively with cheaters.

A mod gave him some souls.

Much simple: consolle are closed systems, PC are open ones.
Also, I hope you are just trolling hard here.

You can't be serious right? Valve doesn't lack money. Reason for more cheats is because PC is more of an open platform.

I, for one, will welcome our new GOG Galaxy overlords.

It takes a minute to backup your save, do it now.

Folder: Users - USERNAME - AppData - Roaming - DarkSoulsIII - 01100001018f093f

File: DS30000.sl2

It seems to be one file for all characters. AppData is a hidden folder so you'll need to unhide folders to see it.

I created a folder on Dropbox called "01100001018f093f" and put the "DS30000.sl2" file in there, then I just overwrite it everyday, or whenever I've had a big session. It takes about 1 minute a day to do manually so it's well worth doing just in case, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

This is a joke post right?

Not sure if this is serious but the reason is as simple as this:

Each console is running a obscure locked down OS compared to Windows which is a open system.

Once consoles get properly jailbroken this will allow ease of use of cheats on console as well, very much like on PC.

The money you pay goes not towards this at all, but merely "server upkeep"
