FEEL THE BERN: Beware Dark Souls 3 PC/Steam users

This is on From. They've had how many iterations of this game now? And they haven't figured out a solid anti-cheat solution yet?

I remember dark souls 2 originally used VAC but people who were VAC banned in other games were unable to play so they just removed it entirely lol.

There's no softban in DS3, ALL bans are PERMANENT and FROM won't revoke them.

Someone said just revert a backup save and it's all good or something, but it seems they are wrong:

Deleting your save file does nothing once it has been flagged as it will simply add the flag back when you connect to the servers again.

softban is the incorrect nomenclature at this point. I feel sorry for all those people he destroyed.

I don't understand the people who are commending him and make comments like, 'reddit is butthurt'. As if they get personal joy out of seeing redditors discuss and call out this guy. Well you know they wouldn't be doing it if this guy didn't actually hack !

Try playing PS4 Diablo 3 online with randoms right now if you think stuff like this can only happen with jailbroken consoles.

Well that's a different situation though.
That situation only exists because one can use their originally hacked characters from PS3. If Blizzard didn't let people carry over their PS3 characters it wouldn't have happened because you can't actually hack the PS4 version and any hacks had to be done on PS3.

So when he hits them their equipped armor also disappears?

When he hits them he probably modifies their stats > uploads to server > server bans them.

At least thats one way to do it. idk how this is even possible. FROMs AC is so horrible its fucked insane.
Someone should contact anyone at FROM and have this person banned, permanently and go over the footage and unban people.

Also report the youtube. Get it removed.

Hes only doing it for attention.

He's currently in game now.

As horribly douchey of a move it is, I'm at least impressed by the creativity of it all. Banning people by killing them, that's new.
I'm in the same boat somewhat. It is awful that someone is getting other players perma-banned, especially with the fact that he is hacking.

It's just kind of funny and ironic how he's abusing FROM's own anti-cheat method to do it.

If this Malcolm Reynolds guy is trying to make a statement this way, it's slowly working...

"funny" thing is, if this softbanned people don't understand\discover what this cunt is doing, they're gonna blame From

They should blame From anyway, this was a known problem for days and they did nothing.

It kinda is on them to actually provide a working solution. Two wrongs don't make a right, but their implementation is clearly flawed.

Not in general but FROM screwed up somehow and promised to fix it but they ended up just abandoning it.

Is that possible on Steam? Honest question. I mean for cheating online in a game, can you get your whole account banned?
Nope. You don't ever lose your account on Steam. No matter what you do, you always have access to your games.
I don't think it's wrong to see a game with lots of cheaters on PC and say "I"m glad I'm playing on consoles."

Just like it's not wrong to see a fast-paced game that's locked to 30 fps on consoles, and saying, "I'm glad I'm playing on PC."

In this specific instance, the console version has a clear advantage.

Cheating is always going to be more of a problem on PC. That's just one of the downsides to having an open platform. Sure, good anticheat systems help, but those take time and effort to implement.

Where are the "lots of cheaters" exactly? You're seeing one single dude purposefully screwing people and streaming it to the world, but how do you exactly get "lots of cheaters" from this?

Yeah, it seems there are two messages: the first basically telling you "delete your save because it's suspicious", but when this happens, you are already doomed, because you will be banned in the next maintenance, no matter what. This is what I read, anyway, on Steam there's a 110+ pages thread about people getting banned for no reason.

If this Malcolm Reynolds guy is trying to make a statement this way, it's slowly working...

He's just an asshole, you can see screenshots on his profile about hacking in DS1 and breaking people gear.

Is just that DS3 shitty anti-cheat systems is making hackers even a bigger problem that they were in past games.

You can have your entire account disabled, yes.
Only for cheating online?

not for this game, but if you get banned from a VAC game I think valve bans you from all of them using that anti cheat device.
Check out the results of VAC bans here:

For some games/accounts there is a real financial penalty. Alas the anti cheat mechanisms in DS3 are flawed and don't use VAC.
Nope. You don't ever lose your account on Steam. No matter what you do, you always have access to your games.
I see, so the worse thing that can happen to him in this situation is a ban from Dark Souls 3 online?

To be honest having no anti cheat at all is better than the faulty system they have currently. In these games perhaps you would run into a handful of cheaters over the course of your entire Dark Souls 3 game time. It kinda sucks but it is far from a big deal.

I see, so the worse thing that can happen to him in this situation is a ban from Dark Souls 3 online?

FROM/Namco would have to manually ban his account from their Dark Souls 3 servers. Otherwise nothing will happen to him.

"funny" thing is, if this softbanned people don't understand\discover what this cunt is doing, they're gonna blame From

They should. This anti-cheat implementation is total garb. Bans people for soul count that doesn't add up but this dude can swing his messed up dagger and port around the place as much as he wants to.

I remember Dark Souls 1. There was a video of this dude floating around where he'd attach curse to his weapons, so any time you got hit, you got cursed. Never saw it in my game, but I always thought that shit stupid.

When does Valve ever do that? For persistent online harassment that their almost non-existent community management team flags an account for?

This got nothing to do with VAC, but this can be considered purposefully harassing steam community members, getting them banned and ruining their game experience and items they've purchased.

As such they are very much within reason to disable the entire account, and yes, they have done it in the past im sure.

Unless someone at Valve somehow finally realizes that this guy is a long-term ragehacker who has done this across multiple games for years and makes an example of him, yeah.
Pity, thats not much of a punishment, but at least it would keep him from continuing doing this.

"funny" thing is, if this softbanned people don't understand\discover what this cunt is doing, they're gonna blame From
And they would be right. If their anti cheat system allows running around with hacked items, teleporting, falsely banning victims then it's useless crap.

I've played for around 100 hours and haven't encountered a single hacker, it's really not as common as certain people would like you to believe.

Yeah, I know I'm probably overreacting. I really don't care if I'm being invaded by hackers or not but I just don't want to risk getting erroneously softbanned, especially because I'll be playing on my modest laptop and most likely use dxtory to limit the framerate, which some claimed got them softbanned on DS2. And with all the ruckus going on with DS3's server protection, I'd rather play (or more appropriately, not play) it safe until they hopefully fine tune the anti-cheat system.

This is my biggest turnoff with Dark Souls. I don't want some asshole ruining my game. Can you just play offline?

You can but offline Dark Souls is not really Dark Souls anymore. It's really a game meant to be played online hence why I never was much interested in it.

The major issues with The Division are in-game exploits that work on all platforms, so that's not a particularly great example.

People cheat as much as they can given the opportunity. PC no doubt gives more opportunities. It would be delusional to say otherwise. But don't exaggerate the issue, either. Most Dark Souls 3 players can attest to encountering few to no cheaters at all, likely due to the overall quality of the community.

This is a nightmare of ragehacking we're witnessing right now, and it isn't possible on consoles for the time being. When it has been possible on consoles in the past Souls games, I didn't take the time to gloat about it as some in this thread are doing.
You are putting words in my mouth. I didn't say this is all you see in PC games, nor did I say every PC game suffers from it and every player has to go through this..did I? All I said was hacks exists on PC and don't on current gen consoles due to such and such reasoning, where exactly is the exaggeration here ? As for The Division, that game uses a client side trust system which means hacks exists on PC which don't on consoles, we are not debating whether it's a bigger problem than ingame exploits or not.

Straw man argument here.

That's not true I pretty much play all of them as single player games although other people are interested in the PVP elements I mostly just want the messages on the floor and such and I ignore all summons and such.

Yes. You wouldn't get messages either though I think. People can't invade you while you're not "embered" in DS3 though. DS2 had that one area where you'd always get invaded even when hollow, which was annoying.

How has he been going for over 2 hours?

How is his account still open on steam after doing this in multiple games?

Clearly hes nothing more that a simple asshole who gets enjoyment out of ruining others fun.

FROM/Valve please.

There are two things that better come of this.

1. Total reset of all softbans. The victims of this probably go beyond what we've seen here, and others have probably done this as well. We will definitely see more of it after today.

2. Fix your damn system FROM. Or take it out. I don't care. I'd rather see "Real God" flying all over the place in my game (Which I did the other night) than get banned from a fuckhead like this.

FROM/Valve please.

Stream started more than 4 hours ago.

Sigh, this is exactly the kind of thing I was worried about when getting DS3 for PC. I love playing online, so going offline is not an option. Was an extra 30 fps worth it? Not sure. Just hope it all gets fixed soon.

FROM/Valve please.

It is the weekend. Sadly I doubt anything will happen till Monday probably.

Overreactionary, maybe, but how is this shit not somehow actionable?

I mean, the way I see it, as long as FROM doesn't fix this and patch the game, we're watching this guy, LIVE, stealing $60 from innocent random strangers, over and over again.

They paid 60 dollars for a product, and he's destroying its base functionality, making sure they can never again enjoy one of the major - perhaps THE major - feature of the game.

I'd honestly like to see people like this face some sort of minor to moderate criminal justice.

What's happening to their armor after someone gets hit? Is it just a visual thing or is something happening to their gear?

You can but offline Dark Souls is not really Dark Souls anymore. It's really a game meant to be played online hence why I never was much interested in it.

No it's not. I've never played DS offline but the only difference with online would be the lack of messages from other players and random invasions. But even if online was required how do these two things make you less interested in the game? I don't get that.

When does Valve ever do that? For persistent online harassment that their almost non-existent community management team flags an account for?

VAC only bans you from individual games (with a few that trigger bans for all games on a certain version of an engine). And I've never once heard of someone getting any kind of ban from Valve for anything besides VAC and being flagged for potential credit card fraud... and even the latter doesn't ban you from your account, it just locks purchases IIRC.

They only do that if fraud is committed, they never disable an account due to a cheating infraction.

What an absolute prick. I'm on ps4 and haven't had a chance to get back so will offline when I get back. Don't understand the need, hack your game by all means but don't ruin other peoples game.

How does password-invading work? You can only invade by inputting the corresponding password? So, could an obscure password allow you to play coop with friends but avoid invasions?
