FEEL THE BERN: Beware Dark Souls 3 PC/Steam users

To be honest having no anti cheat at all is better than the faulty system they have currently. In these games perhaps you would run into a handful of cheaters over the course of your entire Dark Souls 3 game time. It kinda sucks but it is far from a big deal.

FROM/Namco would have to manually ban his account from their Dark Souls 3 servers. Otherwise nothing will happen to him.

The actual anti-cheat is TOTALLY useless simply because a user can create an infinite amount of alternate Steam accounts, enable family share and keep using their savegame from the banned account to screw people up.
At least with VAC you need to purchase another copy of the game and create another Steam account, in DS3 you simply buy the game once, cheat forever.

So in the end only legit users will get punished with their account restricted on playing using cheaters servers.

What an absolute prick. I'm on ps4 and haven't had a chance to get back so will offline when I get back. Don't understand the need, hack your game by all means but don't ruin other peoples game.

Because people are stupid and bad, that's why. And the fact this game grants you the possibility to create an infinite amount of alternate accounts and cheat with them, it means a cheater can also have his main account totally "clean", not banned, and keep creating family share accounts to make people banned.

I soloed the nameless king. I'm tired of this shit.

*plays offline for now*

Eh, sadly this couldn't totally solve the problem.

From anti-cheat system is faulty, and there are report of legit people playing online getting banned. It's not clear what causes damage to your savegame, but it happened randomly also to people playing online to avoid the invasion garbage.

They only do that if fraud is committed, they never disable an account due to a cheating infraction.
Well, its a kind of fraud right? He is quite literally stealing $60...
Overreactionary, maybe, but how is this shit not somehow actionable?

I mean, the way I see it, as long as FROM doesn't fix this and patch the game, we're watching this guy, LIVE, stealing $60 from innocent random strangers, over and over again.

They paid 60 dollars for a product, and he's destroying its base functionality, making sure they can never again enjoy one of the major - perhaps THE major - feature of the game.

I'd honestly like to see people like this face some sort of minor to moderate criminal justice.

No it's not. I've never played DS offline but the only difference with online would be the lack of messages from other players and random invasions. But even if online was required how do these two things make you less interested in the game? I don't get that.

Because the asymmetrical invasion/summon system is possibly *the* defining feature and draw of the Souls series?

Are you honestly acting like this is something that's ok because it only affects a featureset you personally aren't invested in?

I refuse intrusion in my game from another player. I play games for escapism, the last thing I want to see is someone else.

Can't gamers like this, where the proof is right there to see, get a permanent online ban on their Steam account or something like that? This is actually directly harming the value of many other gamers, by removing their online functionality. I think there should be clear consequences for bullshit like this.

As I said in the OT, this is just disgusting. No one should be punished for wanting to play online and I can't believe the guy is so openly doing this with not a care in the world.

Hope for the best for the PC guys. Hope something is sorted quick and this guy is dealt with. Stay safe, PC bros.

If he doesn't hit you, you're fine. Git good.

I never really paid much attention to Youtube Gaming but that chat is something else, sheesh.

Pretty sure a channel like this would've been banned from Twitch an hour ago already.

That would require steam to get off their lazy ass, and they wont. Even when this guy is making peoples games unplayable as intended on purpose, for the sole reason of removing these features.
How many people has he gotten banned so far?

Too many, at least 1 every minute. So thats like 300+ people in 4 hours of play?

They should've gotten gud.

I know most of y'all too young to remember this shit but his youtube profile pic makes me believe he's like some old school -myg0t- (I had to look this shit up, that's how long ago it was) griefing holdover that never managed to grow up. Or maybe a recent copycat admirer. I mean this is some bullshit but this is essentially partially on From for having such a dumb anti cheat mechanism that it's actually banning the victims. I mean that's kind of amazing.

I loved Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls II. However, I hated getting invaded and especially hated the DS2 belltower and that cavern area. It always ruined the good experience I was having in the game. I did like fighting bosses and going through areas cooperatively with other people. I would play offline, but then I would miss out on the online aspects I do enjoy. Seeing a video like this makes me seriously question if I want to even bother playing DS3.

They should blame From anyway, this was a known problem for days and they did nothing.

It kinda is on them to actually provide a working solution. Two wrongs don't make a right, but their implementation is clearly flawed.

They should. This anti-cheat implementation is total garb. Bans people for soul count that doesn't add up but this dude can swing his messed up dagger and port around the place as much as he wants to.

And they would be right. If their anti cheat system allows running around with hacked items, teleporting, falsely banning victims then it's useless crap.

This is entirely From's fault.

This dude streaming his assholery might actually force From to fix it quicker.

The blame for this ultimately lands on From

maybe i should have added "for the wrong reason"

of course its their responsibiliy, but if these people remain unaware of this CUNT (i want to repeat that) they just gonna scream "fuck From, they banned me for no reason"

There always has to be some asshole destroying the fun of other people. Like get a life

It's not just destroying fun. Unless Scamco and From actually sort this at their end he is essentially breaking people's legit purchases. If the victims don't get unbanned then it's an absolute shitshow.

Normally cheaters just get banned themselves, he's getting others banned for no reason. I know you'll know this but I just want to make it clear he's a different type of asshole than someone who cheats ordinarily.

If someone gets banned by this guy, they can still play offline right?

You can play offline, but you will be forced into servers for cheaters. So this means you can keep using online funcionality of DS3, but you will play only with cheaters or other people being banned for no reason like you.

Glad this didn't happen last night when I was playing. Sticking with PC though. This should highlight the issue sufficiently.

I'm not playing online again until I hear an official response from FROM or Namco. I'm not being softbanned for this kind of shit. And now we're going to have copycats as well.

Well those servers are now filled with victims from this guy, so I guess there's that.

according to the chat they are planning on hitting ps4 next.

You can't do that. You can't edit the PS4 version's saves and you can't do the warping thing that he does without modifying the game, which is currently not possible on PS4.

Cheating is a huge problem on PC only, console players only have possible in-game exploits. Pretty sure that the PS4 version also doesn't have this anti cheat system which is causing the bans.

Eh, that's a bit of a stretch. They can still play offline, no? The main focus of the game.

It's more like he's stealing $15

I refuse intrusion in my game from another player. I play games for escapism, the last thing I want to see is someone else.

Then play offline. The only thing missing would be the messages which you could also see as an intrusion from someone else. The rest of the game would be exactly the same.

Because the asymmetrical invasion/summon system is possibly *the* defining feature and draw of the Souls series?

Are you honestly acting like this is something that's ok because it only affects a featureset you personally aren't invested in?

How is this relevant? The guy I'm talking to doesn't want pvp or co-op. Unless you're saying the invasion/summon system is the only draw of the Souls series. I'd strongly disagree with that.

What a piece of shit. What's wrong with people?

He's most likely convinced himself that he's "bringing attention to a major issue," but it's more likely that that's just a flimsy skin-deep veneer and he's really just an asshole who gets his jollies thinking of causing random strangers mental anguish and ruining their playtime/day off/weekend.

What if FROM never actually patches the game or addresses this issue?
Then what of the dozens of people he's just essentially stolen a $60 dollar game from?
Do you think he'll crusade harder for justice to be served for them?

Of course not. He'll have gotten bored of his script kiddie exploits by then, and the people he swiped the pleasure of a brand new game from will simply be a distant memory he barely cared about in the first place.

This is just assholishness.
It's harassment. It's bullying and theft.

I'd like to see his online accounts banned and him forced to reimburse his victims the MSRP of Dark Souls III.

Eh, that's a bit of a stretch. They can still play offline, no? The main focus of the game.

To me the game loses a massive amount of appeal without co-op, invasions and messages.
Leaving messages, invading the worlds of other players and summoning assistance of your own are the signature gameplay mechanics of the Souls games, to me.

How is this relevant? The guy I'm talking to doesn't want pvp or co-op. Unless you're saying the invasion/summon system is the only draw of the Souls series. I'd strongly disagree with that.

Uh, because you said "play offline" and I replied, essentially "I don't buy these games to play offline."
"Relevant" doesn't mean "I only want answers I want to hear," ya know. My response was as "relevant" as can be.

according to the chat they are planning on hitting ps4 next.

First they came for PC, and I said nothing because I didn't have one

Then they came for me.

Seriously though, this seems like it may actually be in a legally grey area. If you are actively destroying someone's purchase in some way (even if it is digital), isn't it still destruction of property?

nah he's probably just a sociopath.

No. If i purchase DS3 for the sole online experience I've lost $60 now.
Its a part of the product, and if it stops functioning the whole product is flawed and as such not usable in the intended way.

if some random person in the comments said it.....most likely not. He is using infinite health, stamina, basically a trainer. But he put a modded weapon into his profile. Unless someone figured out how to basically mod the PS4, I find it highly unlikely it will happen. The modding in Dark souls is probably more simple than even The Division. You probably have your profiled saved in some stupid folder. He edited the values, activated a trainer and away he goes!

He's the Dark Souls of Hero Killer Stain

As a huge Souls fan I genuinely feel terrible for some new player who might be playing this as their first game and bam, banned and not understanding why.

It's just soo shitty. Raising awareness is good but many people who aren't in GAF, reddit or some big other site are going to get fucked. From better respond to this, and better unban.

To 'you,' but if you are to actually look at what the game provides, pvp is only a small portion of the game. Of course, I know there are people who like to focus primarily on pvp but the game is built to be played entirely offline as well as online.

That's not to say that I think what this hacker is doing has less negative impact. He's an ass, and should be banned from DS3, as well as probably from Steam, though that's probably not going to happen. I hope something happens soon.

Some interesting links. I tried to open a discussione here on GAF the other day hoping someone like Jim Sterling can report this issue in a video so From, if forced, will do something about, because simply those people are ruining a legit purchase made by legit users, with From "who cares" doing nothing about.

You don't need to do PVP, you only need to be in ember form to be invaded.

"funny" thing is, if this softbanned people don't understand\discover what this cunt is doing, they're gonna blame From

And if they don't get the ban removed within the next day or so, the blame would be well placed.

Either way, how has From not reacted to this yet?
