FEEL THE BERN: Beware Dark Souls 3 PC/Steam users

To 'you,' but if you are to actually look at what the game provides, pvp is only a small portion of the game. Of course, I know there are people who like to focus primarily on pvp but the game is built to be played entirely offline as well as online.

Even if you don't PVP most will play online for messages and co-op. Let's not forget invasions can be forced or triggered by covenants in certain areas.

Absolutely no point in bringing in how Souls should be played or not played into this topic. It's a game with online connectivity getting ruined even for those not interested in PVP.

Lmao somebody got summoned into his world and immediately jumped off a cliff and saved themselves. They knew what was up.

Holy shit this is terrible.

That area was a nice Fight Club area that tons of players frequented. I feel so sorry for PC users. I hope FROM doesn't take long to rectify this.

I don't "focus" on PvP. At all.
But a major chunk of the game is missing if there's no online interaction.

When Dark Souls came out, and to an extent Demon's Souls, though it was much more niche and didn't get the same marketing, what aspects of the game were most shown off and talked about?

It was the ability to leave messages.
To assist strangers in their own world.
To be invaded in your own without invitation.

These are all part of the game's atmosphere and even its lore.
So important are these to the game's intended reception that the game even emulates these interactions in Offline mode through hard-coded messages, NPC summons and scripted invasions.

Novel online/multiplayer interactions have always been at the top of the list of Souls game traits.

Leaving messages is essentially *the* iconic image of the Souls series.

Some asshole just want to watch the world burn
FTFY
And if they don't get the ban removed within the next day or so, the blame would be well placed.

Either way, how has From not reacted to this yet?

Well they should mass refund even if over 2 hours.

2 hours is just a automatic process but this warrants a refund. its nothing YOU can do about it and the game is not working as intended anymore. Its the only way to show FROM.

Someone might as well have done this to me on PS4 since I can't summon people anyway lol. Then again I can still be invaded so I suppose that's not true.

The good news is he seems to really be fucking over a lot of people so FROM will actually have to do something about this. If he only did this to a few people what are the odds of them giving a crap and reversing the bans? Slim to non would be my guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if some brave folks are trying to get involved on purpose just to waste the guys time by suiciding. Most who know of this will be offline right now.

playing offline negates all of that. And the game is still a meaty experience without any form of PvP, because that was the focus.

The only reason I brought this up is because the post I quoted said "he's stealing $60!" as if the game is made completely unplayable or invalid, when in fact the online aspect is not even remotely the biggest part of the game.

Hence my comment "more like $15" because it's a sizeable part, but the bulk of the game is still playable and is tuned to be played even without it.

Would be better if someone used his cheat against him, getting him softbanned.

Thats the hero we need!

So if all the banned people get sent to a "cheat" server. The population of that server is gonna be crazy and you may as well be in normal game anyway? heh

Also, curious when a hacker is gonna challenge him :)

So if I sold you a car and you got home and found out that the engine was falling apart, you'd let me get away with it because "the interior is still nice and usable?"

There's nothing for you to defend here. This shouldn't be happening. It shouldn't be possible and, failing that, individuals shouldn't stoop so low.

Intentionally destroying the functionality of the belongings of a stranger is, at LEAST, purposeful vandalism, and if you're trying to argue that the removed functionality isn't the sum total of the entire affected product, then you're really just arguing, in my eyes, that stealing a slightly lesser amount of money from someone is somehow more acceptable than stealing slightly more from them.

There's nothing to defend here. There is no other side of the fence to be on.

Heres how it looks when you get hit

what the fuck is the point of arguing this

Valve should use the full force of their dubious "terms of service" and completely remove this account imo. The guy has almost 200 games.

It would be fantastic if that happened.

It's still a pointless argument. The potential to do something others can in their exact same purchase as you is getting taken away. You know, the possibility that some day you might actually want to try PVP.

If From don't unban then I have no issues having empathy for those that feel they've lost their $$$ rather than working them up saying you can play offline bro.

Hackers continuing to scare away people from PC multiplayer.

This is childs play compared to the shit pulled on the Dreamcast version of Phantasy Star Online. At least this will be reversed soon. In PSO you could remotely corrupt someone's save file.

This stream has been going on for 3 hours? How did he not get banned by now?

Incompetence/inability to quickly/timezone differences. It isn't Valves responsibility to as VAC isn't in play, but I'm guessing legally and via T&C they probably can.

I love this.

While ingame issues is not valve, this directly affects peoples purchased games and as such is Valves problem as its using THEIR service.

There is clearly grounds for Valve to take action and shut this account down, its not the first time and it wont be the last time this person will harass and take peoples money/games/feature away and make them useless.

That's true, but whether it's $15 or $60, it's still effectively the same thing. I know many people who play through the game once and them put in twice that amount of time in online play. I also know people who don't touch it at all. The actual value may be subjective, but I think everyone in both groups would consider it some kind of destruction of property if they were banned from something they bought like this.

Yep. People could use what amounted to GameShark codes to overwrite your save file with the stats of a low-level NPC and then force the game to autosave, making it permanent.

I was 11 years old playing my first online game. I saved up for months to buy it on release and got the Dreamcast Keyboard and everything. Spent months playing after school and on weekends and building up my character into the 70s or 80s and then some guy connects to my game, the screen flashes strangely and...that's it. It's already done and over. It was depressingly common for people to get "NOL'd" or "Kireek'd."

Save file remotely overwritten.

Speaking of all of this, didn't the same thing happen in DS2? They may not have been banned for it, but the souls they gained would lock them out of PVP due to SM limitations, right?

Probably.
This has been a problem in DS3 since it came out, if a cheater joins you or you join him he can remotely edit your stats and when your game saves you will get flagged.

The problem here is hes streaming it and actually getting instant softbans out of it.

PSO in general had a fucky save system that you could fuck up and accidently deleted simply by not logging out of the game properly.

There was a glitched mag you could get via Gameshark that when used would lock every other players screen. It would cause their save to get corrupted.

Since the DC Game had your equipped weapon and money dropped without the potential of patches preventing hacking with new updates, you had to deal with PK Items and God HP++.

You better watch out. I have a GAF hack where if I tag your post Modbot gets tricked into handing out a ban.

/s

That is a hacking stream that I would enjoy. The one posted in this thread is horrible, though. So many new players getting their game wrecked ... Why would you want to rob players of the beautiful experience of participating in online Dark Souls?

Yes, but IIRC that wasn't hackers being dicks on purpose. It was a side effect of the invincibility cheat people used.

Happened to my main after kicking a hacker off a cliff.

edit: the sunbro is too pure for this world :(

Thank god I didn't buy the Season Pass (even if I did I'd refund it), because frankly From deserves no more of my money if they can't be bothered to fix this horrible banning system.

Lets hope they fix this because it's ridiculous that people can be banned for being a literal victim of hacking.

I hope the little shit enjoys getting banned from Steam. As far as I understand it, softbans are merely imposed on the current character you play as and there is an item that can unban you, no?

Or are there different tiers of bans?

For the greater good, obviously.
This will make FROM fix their game, right?

It will, trust me, now take this stab for the greater goo
