Feeling old at 20.....

I personally realised that life sucks when i was on the eve of my 20th birthday and realised it only goes downhill from here. I was so upset to no longer be a teen.

:lol :lol

I remember this thread. I wish i could go in a time machine and slap the shit out of my former self. I'm 22 now, and i've never felt so good in my life. :D

I know how you feel now, but don't think that things go downhill after turning 20. You don't know what kind of experiences you'll have. Good or bad, those kind of experiences are what life is all about. Just take it and keep on going.

I felt old at 10 when i was would just sit and read some book while the rest of the people in my class were running around. Now at 21 i feel like i didn't grow up at all and that i am still childish. Life is really weird.

If the best years of your life are being a teenager thats pretty fucking pathetic. High school is better than moving out, starting a career, having your own disposable income and dating girls that aren't sexually confused and arkward. Seriously?

All teenagers want to be is adults. Now that you are getting there you want to regress? Does the good life magically end at some arbitrary age? Why is your life determined to be shit at 40, or 50?

I'm 22 and I still feel like an invincible god. I think reality will hit me around 28-29. But until then I fear nothing.

Youth FTW! Fuck the elderly!

So you see now how emo this thread was, after all? :lol

Ever since i turned twenty in May, i got this feeling that i'm getting "old". On the night of my brother and i's birthday (fraternal twin), he said that we were going to be thirty in just ten years. Now i realize that i'm still very young, but i'm just surprised how "fast" it went. It being life. Looking back on what i've done so far with my life, i realize what little i've accomplished so far.

So has anyone, who is still young, ever felt like this before?
Ten years ago you were ten.

How long ago does that feel to you? If you're like me, that feels like a whole 'nother lifetime.

Congratulations, you've just discovered perspective.

:lol You're "worried" about your lack of accomplishments at age 20. Unless those accomplishments include bagging tail at spring break or belching contests, you have nothing to worry about.

Historically speaking, if he were to accomplish something truly great ... it would have already happened, or he'd be well on his way.

The hilarious thing to me is how immature I am despite being 20. TWENTY years old. I just look at myself and laugh.

22 is old.
Anything before that is young.
22 and after = old.

buy yourself a leather jacket and you'll feel fine again.

if you're freaking out because you didnt bang a million chicks, go on a million road trips, backpack across europe, experience cliche teen drama, or save the world dont sweat it. life isnt like tv, you probably had a decent run all things considered, no need to have regrets.

edit: and also, in north america everyone is statistically their happiest around 40-50

I'm 35, and the answer to winding back the clock is going to the gym 4-5 times a week and not eating complete garbage. I feel better today than I ever have.

I'm almost 24, and the worst I've noticed is that I'm not nearly in as good shape as I was when I was 20-21.

Then again, I now have a job, and don't have quite as much time to exercise, nor great free facilities to take advantage of.

Other than that, I feel just fine. I did, however this this the other day:

The last 2-3 years went by really quickly. In 10 years I should probably have a kid. That seems like less time than it used to, and for that reason I'm a little frightened :D

gah, I just turned 22 and I feel like garbage...I still have 3 years left at college, ( out of 5, masters ) and I feel like I dont have anything to look forward to.

No love of my life
No being an astronaut.
No changing the world..
No nothing...

Losing my hair
Worst shape I've ever been in.
Just live a monotonous 9-5 life,

I feel like all I have left is to try to figure out how to make as much money as possible so I can fill my boring life with empty hollow material things.

:( emo out..//

I might be wrong now, but I feel like you are younger than 21. I might totally be wrong ofc but thats what I felt like at 18-21, that money will be my carrot on a stick up until the day I stumble in my own grave.

But the older I get the more I realize the value of friends and family and health etc of which I have none atm...

Nevertheless the Homeless-age thread really lifted my spirit

Pretty much. I don't go to a gym, but I'm very active. I'm 33, and I feel better than I did at 18 physically, and a fucking hell of a lot better mentally. Cue the dumbasses quoting my ironic tag.

But what if I've done that already? D:

The reason it feels like you haven't done much in 20 years is because the first ~16 years of everyones life is wasted by default, and even then you can't do much as a teenager.

Unless you're half-assing life you'll do more cool stuff in the next couple years than the previous twenty put together.

20 yes, got me there. I'm working on getting my own business running now, so I can make a decent living. Takes a lot away from your social life :( But it's worth it.

You're older than you've ever been.

And now you're even older.

if you've lived a good life then you have no reason to feel depressed about hitting 20, if you went back in time its not like you would of done it any better.

Tell you what, thats the spirit! You and me are similar, starting your own buisness is admirable. Im trying to start my own alongside university. One day I'll make a ton of money but that wont fill this emotional void in my life....:[

Doing this also. I'm starting again in september with new classes. It's only a few hours a week that you have to be on campus, so it will be a lots of working in the day and learning for school in the evenings.

If everything goes as planned, I won't need that education in the end. But even then it will be good for experience. And better be safe then sorry if my own business turns out a complete failure in the end :lol

Im 31, and feel younger now than I did at 25. See, at 25 you begin to usher out your 'youth' and realize that that period is ending..and you FEEL old...then once that feeling wanes and you realize 'Hey, im 28/29/31/33 (whatever) and I have a whole lot ahead of me' you suddenly realize that while you aren't young enough to go out and drink 4 nights a week..you also don't want to anymore.

Workout, eat clean, and you'll be way ahead of the game (our college interns thought I was 27, that made my week).

I'm just about there, but I really don't feel old in any negative way. It's just now you can say things like "I haven't seen that movie in 12 years!" and you're starting to forget major details about where you went to high school, and you remember how there are lots of people you spent every day with a few years ago that you'll never see again.

Unless I start losing my hair soon, or start getting health problems, I don't see age as being a negative thing for a good 20 years.

20 is nothing. Most people consider the start of their really good years to be their late teens. You're only a couple years older. Once you're in the second half of your 20s and expected by everyone from parents and family and friends and society to settle down and start a career, and half the people your own age are getting married and buying a house, and you're no longer in that fantasy land called college, then you can start feeling old.

Pfft. 21-22 on Sunday, have people I know that have gotten married/have kids shortly after graudation. Not in college. I feel old anyway.

Also, "good years?" Pffft. Fuck that, my past two years have been nothing but uneventful shit.

I'd like a link to that. I don't believe it. (Then again, Americans are at least sort-of more happier than the Japanese around the 20-30's)

I feel your pain man!
I'm 20 years old and it feel's like I haven't done much in terms of fun and stuff. It's just so depressing.
All my life I've been studying so hard to get into med school and now that I'm a med student I don't have time to do ANYTHING but to study.
I know that it's an amazing accomplishment, but sometimes it hits me that maybe I should be having more fun...

I'm turning 25 in 3 weeks. I don't feel old, but it is a little disconcerting that I'm now at the point where my middle school memories make me stop and think, "Wow, that was 10 years ago?"

Lewis Black is right though. The older you get, the faster the calendar moves. The last three years have whizzed by.

I'm 27 and I just saw a picture of me when I was 20. God Dammit!

How do guys like Toby Mcguire look like 16 at 30? Tom Cruise is in his mid 40s, same for Brad Pitt. WTF!
I'm also 27 and no one has EVER guessed my age. I've gotten 20-22 range.

I was considering posting a topic on whether or not this is a good thing...
