FF15 E3 Hands on Previews

I think it says a lot about the mindset of Tabata & SE marketing that the full Titan footage is bonus content at the end of a presentation, rather than something they should put up front. Instead, they greenlighted dubstep and VR for the trailer. Maybe a hazard of being too close to the project.

I am still somewhat sad and disappointed that they stuffed up one of -if not- the most important moments of the game's marketing campaign with the demo.. in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers. It might have irreversibly damaged the game's sales potential.

That magic chaining thing sounds true.

Fuck the (fake) rumors.

I don't know why some people are holding that leak so dear to their hearts. It's like they want this game to fail.

What did they say?

Here's a pretty good summary of their impressions:

They played the first 2 chapters and there were no CGI cutscenes, it seemed pretty rough. Ben described the battles as "slide-shows," and not even close to fluid. He said he felt that they really didn't tell the story in a good enough manner for you to connect with Noctis, but the stream reminded them that Game Informer said that there is a Chapter 0 which wasn't in the demo that Damiani and Ben played. Ben also said that the demo crashed 4 times on him.

Damiani said that he felt that the combat had improved a lot by the time they got to the latest Episode Duscae demo but it took a step back in the demo him and Ben played. Apparently it was rushed over from Japan so some glitches and such they ran into might be because it was so new and unrefined.

Both said they felt really disappointed coming out of it.

They did say that the Kingdom Hearts 2.8 section with Aqua was really great though. (At least I think that was the section they were referring to.)

FFXV discussion is towards the end.

What did they say?

To sum it up:

The actual demo at E3 (Trial of the Titan) was very basic and boring. The scale of titan is impressive but the way you take him down is too easy.

They also played a longer demo which consisted of the first and second chapter. Performance was very bad and the world seemed barren. Also cutscenes and acting were missing any urgency and characters didn't really sell the situation.

uhh what? i knew the magic system is like a consumable for this game, but never heard of this mixing stuff
definitely interesting

The magic-mixing system was just introduced yesterday. Here is Tabata introducing it with gameplay during his stage presentation.

Should be noted that Tabata said that the objective of the E3 demo (freeze Titan's arm) will be different in the final game.

This is something that I just can't defend. Sure, read it on a newspaper I don't really care, but the fact that these guys have to sit and ponder wtf is going on and not rush to see their nation being occupied is damn weird.

Like, what's going on here? Why don't any of them try to see what's going on?

Isn't the next part in the main quest them actually going to check out what's going on in Insomnia?

Reading that their nation is being attacked through newspaper felt kinda silly though. It's like nobody cares to pick up the phone and let them know about the invasion? The hell.

They are obviously in a state of disbelief.

I still can't get over how they hear about the invasion through a freaking newspaper lol. So anticlimatic compared to what it was in Versus XIII.

They tried to return to Insomnia after hearing about it, but Niflheim wasn't allowing them inside so at least there's that.

But I think the feeling of urgency is pretty difficult to pull of in open world games like these where you can just not give a fuck about story stuff, and go fishing or something.

I was under the impression they can't receive any calls, because of some sort of interruption. That's the reason why they can't reach anyone in that one scene except for Cor who seems like the only who makes it out along with Luna.

Also doesn't Regis know something is going to go down and that's why he sends Noctis and his friends away. Could've told everyone to not contact him.

Honestly the scenario I'm okay with. It's the way the voice acting and dialogue play it off that bothers me.

Yea true, but the invasion isn't a focal point of the story anymore. This got removed but what if its replaced by a ton more climatic scenes that make up for it?

They are obviously in a state of disbelief.

It just feels like a weird reaction for all four of them to have. If my home was being taken away from me, I would show a bit more urgency at least.

Regis wanted him out for the invasion and likely blocked off all communication. Cor basically confirms this in the Uncovered trailer.

Yes, but they wait and think about what to do for a minute. It's like they have to convince themselves to go.

It seems like Noctis wants go immediately, but then you got someone like Ignis being level headed and not rushing into it.

The dialogue just plays it off weird.

I can echo this sentiment, but I also think the uncovered special trailer hints at Noctis emotional response to the news comes later in the game. He might be in disbelief as they just read it in a newspaper. That is, I think the scene is written as it should be given that they are all in a state of disbelief.

the more I see of FFXV the more I think this game should be pushed back to november.
I mean, I want SE to succeed...I even have the way to expensive CE pre-ordered.
But it just seems to early for what they showed.

the current management seems hellbent on sending it into the fray even if it is not ready. SE release schedule is packed in October.

Can we talk about Gaia's Wrath being revealed? Amazing to think this is just one of his specials, depending on the environment

very impressive summon here. I wonder how the game will decide which attack/version the summon will execute.

I'm guessing it depending on where you are, or how open the space is. I remember reading that even inside dungeons, the summons will act differently as obviously you can't have these expansive sequence inside a cave.

Dying to see Leviathan's Tidal Wave!

In terms of spectacle, yeah that was quite an eye opener, just like Ramuh's attack when it was first showcased in Episode Duscae. Still, mechanically speaking, we still have no idea how the summons work, like the conditions to summon them and if there are any ways to customize or level up the summons over time. We do know summons will work differently in different locations, so that's cool.

I want to see some new, actual dungeon gameplay in FFXV. Really, all we've seen so far are outdoor environment, very few indoor ones outside of towns. Crisis Core and Type-0 had some pretty terrible dungeon level design, so I want to be convinced that FFXV is much improved over those.

Just watched Live Stage Presentation - E3 Day 1. Holy shit, the combat is much much much better than the "dodge to be awesome" MS presentation. I don't know why they thought that Titan fight was a good idea to demo

I love this -- when they started showing the full attack on the ATR I was like "yeah yeah, he picks up the big rock and throws it, I know," but then the huge earthquake effect w/ those stone pillar eruptions, and they're still there when it cuts back to the party! Definitely got a "woah" from me.

It'll be a huge missed opportunity if the end credits don't contain pictures Prompto takes throughout the game. Could be a nice way to tug at the heart strings at the end of an epic journey. :}

Calling it now that chaining any kind of Cure magic with Lightning results in a Cure-All type spell.

Can't wait for this to drop, but they have been really butchering the marketing on this.

ahhhhh ! Nice to see someone who know how to play correctly haha (*I'm looking at you Matt)

Mat is gonna play the titan demo all the way through for square Enix presents today. He better redeem himself and not suck lol. If he does he'll destroyer newcomers first impressions of this game live for the thousands watching.

What the hell is the point of showing journalists game play behind closed doors and giving the public crap trailers, that make the game look Shit?

Do they want their game to Fail?

I remain extremely skeptical about the quality of the game. I guess we shall see come September.

Im in the same boat now. I actually think there is a distinct possibility that we need to prepare for that the game is just going to be bad. I dont want that, but im preparing for it.

Seems like most of the complaints are only related to techinical issues.
It's not good of course, but i guess it's much better than hearing about the game not being fun.

Tell me about it. Amazing.

I hope this is the case. I was about to post how worried i am about FF15 because of that demo, but also the carbuncle demo we got recently too, the combat looks ..well awkward and frustrating.

Hope the main game proves me wrong, or either by that stage i would have settled into the system intricacies.

Oh don't worry, they're integrating his pictures with some invasive Facebook integration bullshit.

Yikes.

I dunno, I thought Duscae demo area didn't feel empty to me. Hopefully the full game is the same.
