His soles aren't read anymore. This is probably the greatest insult they could throw at Nomura!

And his head looks seriously out of proportion.

Good lord, I've never seen so many changes to character models and styles in my life. Near nonexistent consistency.

Did no one have a art/reference bible on hand to see how characters looked before? I mean jesus. Its like completely different characters models and techniques within the same game.

Upon closer inspection, I find it very off-putting how Gentiana is one of the few characters to actually look into the camera (apart from Noctis and Gladio), and she seemingly looks down at you while giving you an ice-cold stare. Scary. *shivers*

I think she shines bright like a Diamond
Dust off those Ps4 controllers this will be a good one!

looks like I'm not the only one seeing The Last Samurai Tom Cruise here.
Right lol his head and proportions fit Tom's body anatomy but the face does not work with what's below. Feel like he should be taller.

Also are we sure Noctis isn't adopted or something? because he looks more typically asian (video game/manga) then the rest of the people that. He's supposedly related too, almost doesn't look like the same gene pool.

The original design for his dad resembled him more, if you've seen it.

Thing is, I loved Nomura's designs, too, back in the days, but after 20 years I'm tired of it and really open for a new direction. Punished Noctis or Nyx, Crowe, Luna, and Ravus from Kingsglaive are right up my alley. If you look at the clothing design it's still unmistakably Japanese, I think. And then also you see the crazy Advent Children moves they do and you know, yeah, that's a FF alright, lol.

maybe the dress design looks japanese, but those faces aren't final fantasy at all to me.

Maybe he looks a lot like his mother? I've known people who don't look anything like one of the parents (Insert obvious joke here).

Yeah I figured out what's wrong with his model. His legs are too freaking long for his upper torso. Looks like the upper half stature of a Japanese person and the legs of a taller person. With a short neck.

Plus the clothing fit makes it more noticeable with his pants riding up a little too high on his waist. So i'm expecting a longer torso and then the head.

And you do? Care to give some examples?

EDIT: Eh... You are kidding, right? It's hard to know these days...
You ask for examples, but have no refutation of my statements? At least describe what makes those Gentiana or Luna designs 'great' in your opinion? What is there that makes those good character designs? "Great and elegant" describes a lot of dresses and outfits—so what is visually interesting, distinct or even fashionable about Gentiana or Luna?

Fan Bingbing, Marchesa: a princess-like style and dress, but using a theme of nature, it is much more visually pleasing and arresting than Luna.

Again Fan Bingbing, this time Ralph & Russo: pink dress with green blossoms and birds, works well with her skin tone and has the feeling of 'wings' from the sleeve design. Much prettier than bland white dress, yet can also convey the exact same "elegance".

When I speak of costume that says something about 'character', it is when what the character wears reflects the character's purpose, personality, and the image the character is trying to put forth. The lady who crashes your boardroom meeting dressed like this is not just going to bow out.

One look at this dress, the character who would wear this kind of dress is apparent immediately: femme fatale.

With Gentiana standing there in her character render, what does her visual design say about her? That's right: absolutely nothing.

FF15 costume/character design has been incredibly bad considering how many styles exist in a contemporary time for the character/costume designers to draw from. Repeating constantly, "I don't know what you guys are talking about, everything is great" is just a state of enclosing yourself in a bubble.

What if they designed Old Noct before they changed Regis' design? It would explain the discrepancy.
That would make sense. Which would mean confusion with their design and those characters not being similar enough at least on a first pass.

Though the movie and the game really do not seem closely related at least when it comes to overall design and direction. Kind of jarring. Especially with the facial captured characters being in the same scene with game designed characters.

Then comparing them to the game itself you see a mark difference in style, mood and taste.

Gah, Older Noct reminds me of someone and I can't put my finger on who.

But now I want older versions of other FF characters. Gimme forty-something Cloud.

They better go full Kingsglaive for the next Dissidia reboot. The current Dissidia arcade game already looks dated to me in terms of artstyle.

Old Noctis looks cool. Here's me wishing for "OLD DLC" w/ old versions of all the characters.

Now we're talking.

I was not expecting the dress porn in this thread, thanks, Dramatis! Gorgeous. re: Luna's dress, it is a bit bland as far as FF heroines go, but isn't she in her wedding dress? I always assumed she'd get another outfit later. I love her Kingsglaive outfits, hopefully she gets something similar. I loved her casual look in the promo screenshots.

What if they designed Old Noct before they changed Regis' design? It would explain the discrepancy.

Regis' new facial design is based off Jon Campling, so I do have to wonder if they changed Regis, and then designed Older Noctis after that? There is the weirdest dissonance between the two Noctis designs, it's a bit creepy.

Those dresses you posted are kind of ugly, though... The ones in FFXV are definitely better.
