Fighting Games Weekly | May 12-18 | The Bracket Racket

I think MS and Nintendo have a higher ceiling than Sony in terms of hype/interesting announcements. Nintendo might not bring the hype but I wouldn't be surprised if some very interesting things come out of them this year. MS is sneaking into the club with heat in its trench coat.

Sony will just be solid in comparison.
The Last Guardian and Beast Souls automatically put Sony up on high tier. I feel like we already know what MS has going on. That nktrl (sp?) leak said a lot. Nintendo will at least have Smash bombs to drop.

He should have seen it coming. He had a long time to edit that post.

I am still surprised that Capcom considers Lost Planet a top 6 major franchise for them. They are REALLY trying to make that series into AAA status. I wish other Capcom games had pushes like that.
Capcom pushes crap no one wants and ignores fan hunger. Par for the course. And I am not talking about MvC3 when I say this.

I actually like Lost Planet and enjoyed LP2 too. I definitely did not like the direction they took with LP3. I feel like if they make an in house Lost Planet for next gen then I would be interested in it. They just really need to fix some of the dumb shit they pulled in LP2.

But I would much rather have Dino Crisis 4 over LP.

I am thinking that the new Capcom Fighter will be either Darkstalkers 4, Power Stone 3, OR Rival Schools 3(Project Justice 2) just so my hopes will get shot down by Capcom faster then the time when the mega man fans got back when Mega Man Legends 3 was canceled

Wasn't Yun notoriously soft to grapplers even in AE?

Yes. Yun has to keep going in which means he's in the right range for grapplers to fight and be a threat. Unlike Cammy vs grapplers though, his returns on hits aren't totally ridiculous. His divekick also doesn't provide the pressure and he doesn't have ambiguous attacks like Cammy does with Cannon Strike. It gives grappler chars a bit of room to breath and do stuff. So you can actually anti-air and SPD his stuff if he gets overzealous.

Hawk will have more a faster walk speed and a faster DP to use to cover the air. I'm almost sure a well-timed Condor Spire will trade as well, in Hawk's favor, but I'd have to go into the lab a little to test that. But basically, Hawk's buffs aren't going to let Yun bully him very much and Hawk's damage off stuff will do a ton of damage to Yun, etc.

doesnt he live like 2 hours away by bus or is that someone else
That's me. I think Toryuken is in a different venue this year though. It's just under 2 hours away still.
Honestly I didn't know there was another Toryuken coming until I had to make this weeks thread.

dino crisis would probably bomb as well.
I think so too.

I think Power Stone is one of the titles they're keeping in their back pocket to whip out like they did Strider. Same exact reactions when people bring it up to reps.

Rival schools will never happen.

.

yea I remember you saying that you lived super far

I feel like with Capcom we can potentially see the following:

*New AAA next gen game. Could be new IP or sequel to a franchise (like the rumored Dino Crisis 4)
*Resident Evil 7
*New fighting game. Not SFV or anything Marvel related but some type of fighting game announcement I feel is likely.
*And because I am mutha fucking biased as fuck... Devil May Cry 5.

Don't toy with my heart here.

I feel like we're gonna get some weird Days of Future Past/Flashpoint type scenario. A demonic conflict spanning both universes ending with and event that heavily retcons both universes into a single timeline where various details from both are true.

It's just a feeling.

Still kinda want DmC Dante in mahvel. Just for the OP Trinity Smash OTG.

Nah, I think it's more likely- it would sell a bit better- could be a hit with the waifu crowd, plus can you throw in Sakura.

Ibuki
makoto
elena too.

Though I think sakura is technically out of schooling. They could cross it over with namco and get Jin Asuka, lili and xiao yu in there if they are disregarding aging.

I feel that's lazy or bad design tbh. For one thing you're making it harder for intermediate players to become adept with the game and characters and potentially become high level players. Another thing is it becomes an issue at high level play where you expect everyone to be on point with their execution so that balance is no longer there. I think it's better to design from high level play down instead from low level play up. The latter gives you Brawl. And I know some people love their hard to do combos just for the challenge and the thrill of completing it in a match I just don't think that it should be require to get the most out of a character and that it should also be inline with actual game balance. Hiding stuff behind execution barriers for that reason is contrived.

That's why you make characters that are hard to do stuff with and others that are easier to do stuff with. And tbh, stuff being hard to do isn't really a problem IMO. Like, Melee at high level is really fucking hard, but it's also really noob friendly. It's because the game was built to have a basic system that is a complete game.

If I play SF4, for example, I constantly feel like the game's telling me "nah nah, can't do this sucker", characters are built around being able to do fucking hard shit. If I can't, the game/system is incomplete. Smash doesn't really have that.

I think that the KOF/GG take on how to do difficulty in traditional fighters is good - doing a move at all is hard, but stringing moves together is pretty easy because everything is a cancel. Like, wtf cr.mp, sweep is a 1f link? Why? I can do stuff like cr.P xx cl.K xx cl.S xx sweep or cr.P xx cr.K xx cl.S xx cr.S with Eddie day 1 without practice, consistently, because I can just press buttons to do it. If I can do specials, I can end with a Mawaru buzzsaw or a drill trap really easy by just doing it. It just feels a lot more free than struggling to string buttons together.

yeah i became a green tea man after quitting soda and caffeine

"I quit caffeine for drinking one of the highest caffeine content teas out there."

That said, green tea is fucking amazing and I need to drink more of it.

Low alcohol consumption, high caffeine consumption here.

Exactly!! Imagine going from BB to KoF 13.. It's HORRIBLE!!! I went from CSEX to 13 and it was almost like I just purchased KoF..

Go GG => KOF13 or KOF13 => GG! Problem solved ^__^

I have a sneaking suspicion E3 is going to be insane this year - at least for MS. Blowing your load this early with Halo news and a price drop?

E3's been a series of trainwrecks for the last who knows how many years. I'm watching it for the comedy and facepalms at this point. Nintendo was good stuff in the mid-2000's and then they went full retard. More comedy is good, I guess. I'd just like more interesting games.

who made this?

Someone who failed Anatomy 101 so bad it isn't even sexy.

Yo coffeeling you putting me on blast, dawg?

Nah man jk I had no idea green tea was high in caffein but it's healthy for me otherwise I guess.

Also I disagree. I'm saying hiding stuff behind an execution barrier for the sake of overall game balance is poor design. once that execution barrier is broken that thing becomes an unfair tool at will. At high levels of play execution barriers are irrelevant.

Edit: were saying the same thing kinda. Sf4s take on execution is pretty obnoxious and not how I would design a game personally.

Would have too many characters, not enough focus. That was one of the problems with DMC4. And really difficult to market as well... right now Capcom probably wants to distant themselves from DmC a bit.

Also I'm all for a new rival schools but I know it won't be the game I want in the rare event that they decide to revive the ip. Expecting free to play card battle nonsense lol

If Capcom wants to use the characters again then merging them into the sf universe would be logical, I think. That or make a Capcom all stars title with few of them in it. Capcom is sitting on a treasure trove of characters, they should really think about making their own smash bros or something. Idk.

Yeah I'm not saying have unbeatable broken stuff in game and as long as it's hard to do it's OK. Ideally, I want:

A base game that is easy to do fun things in, that feels more or less like a complete experience. Smash is really really good at this.

The have a world of cool tech and tricks to learn so you can keep exploring for months or years.

Have a good number of characters be simple to operate, then add more difficult stuff for the people who like their hard execution. Just ensure that there's a good variety of the baseline types so people can get into the game well.

Some imbalance is even desirable, I think - there's real value for people in feelings like "damn, this character is so good it's criminal" or "damn that cheap tierwhoring bastard". Some people just want to play low tier or otherwise underplayed characters. That stuff has value even if it isn't idealistically speaking correct. Thankfully you need surprisingly little imbalance in the game for those vibes to exist. KOF13 does it pretty well IMO, where the top tier isn't super oppressive but just evil enough that you love to hate it. AE too, more or less.

I don't know how far ahead MS is planning to show. I'm excited for the Fall because I think that is a solid exclusive line up with SO, FH2 and Halo collection. They will probably reboot some old IPs.

Sony is a mystery with The Order and DriveClub being the only thing announced so far for the end of the yr.

He had that ex command grab that was invincible to throws though. Allowed him to keep up his pressure on them. But that was pretty much broken, but it would have been nice to keep throw invincibility when they nerfed it to 9 frames.
