Final Fantasy IV Compilation Coming to PSP

At this point I find myself hoping they release this in the west before PSP is out of business (literally), I wouldn't like having to get it from the PSN.

Maybe it'll have multiple language text options like Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II.

looks nice but i hope the monsters actually animate instead of being simply flashing sprites

Heads would explode. But simple breathing/idle animations would be fine for me. Something like how Muramasa handles HQ 2d animation.

I was hoping that they would remake this game in the same fashion as FF1 & FF2. Hopefully this comes out here in the US.

Those screens looks really good. One could argue that it would be worth getting a PSP just for the Square Enix games both currently out and to be released.

I like that it's in the style of the FF1/FF2 remakes in terms of how the character sprite look. All of the FF4 ports have kept the old SNES style in tact so it's refreshing to have new sprites.

Well not all of them.

I'd be totally fine with an FFVI remake in this style. I've long been excited/afraid about what a VI remake could bring to the table, but a mere re-draw + upscale is a safe crowd pleaser.

Don't really see why this wouldn't come out here. FFIV's popularity is pretty strong here. That is, unless Square Enix's financial situation has become so bad they can't afford to localize their big-name games...

Not to mention localization is pretty much already done unless they are major dialogue changes. Theoretically all they'd need to translate is that bridge chapter they mentioned.

Looks like it comes around the same time as Dissidia 012 in Japan, so I don't see why they couldn't do that here too when we get our version, kind of a tie-in of sorts since Dissidia 012 used Golbez and Kain stuff from The After.

Looks very nice. I'm glad they don't look like FFI and FFII PSP.

I and II PSP look like flash games. :/

i agree, that would be the best way to remake FF VI for now. i'd be happy if they gave V the same treatment.

To be honest, now i'd like both a 3d remake of V and VI with voice acting and then 2d redraw :lol I still think Amano art SD and 3d looked nice, regardless of the DS power.

I would love for them to make this playable on the PS3 since I don't have a PSP anymore.

And I hope V and VI get remade as well using these sprites.

They look exactly like 1&2 on psp.

The town screen's character sprites of FFIV PSP look less "chibi" and a bit more organic than the ones in FFI and II PSP.

The screen is pretty small though, hope they release bigger pictures so I can fully compare and contrast.

The screens look hot, two is not enough!

I hope we get the 2D remakes first. While I enjoyed III & IV for DS, they really felt like totally different games.

A slick 2D rendition of III, V & VI would be truly resplendent. Then they can go 3D crazy, presumably on the 3DS.

I don't know why people here are so surprised by how good this looks, considering FF I&II were already the prettiest games on the PSP.

But yes, let the drooling continue (and please pass the bucket).

I assumed they would just throw them into emulators in a little 4:3 box on the screen. They're not 3D games, so redoing them in PSP resolution is a big job.

Yeah, i'd support something like this.

Hopefully V and VI get this treatment someday, after they get full 3D remakes that do all the updates and changes.

Don't really care for IV that much though, so I'm not really that excited for this. :lol

They won't force you to play FFIV before letting you play The After Years, right? I just can't trust Square...

The big question is if the game will force you to play FFIV before starting The After Years -- something that's presumably on the mind of players who've played one of the many remakes of FFIV. Jump does not say how the two titles will be accessible.
Yeah, this doesn't sound good at all. Distrust well earned.

I was wondering how things would work out, between the increased resolution of the PSP and the increased resolution of the sprites. Looks like vertical field of view is less in the end. Might even be a narrower view than GBA/WSC versions, though generalizing on one comparison is a Bad Idea.

Of course, this means any even-further reduced 3DS version would give us a pretty pathetic view. :lol

*is interested enough to make mockups*

Taking that resized SFC shot, I chopped it down to about what the GBA version should look like there:

And taking the resized PSP shot, I chopped it down to about what would fit on 3DS top screen--though of course there are always alternate possibilities like decent scaling at this level of hardware.

I didn't get the previous FFIV remakes, so it will be the first time since 1992 that I am replaying this game. Can't wait! Really looking forward to the remix of the soundtrack.

Oh shit...this is getting the FF I and FF II PSP treatment? This is giving me so much hope for FF VI. I really hope we get a proper retweaked 2D version of FF VI as opposed to the DS remake garbage we've been getting so far.

i almost bought the GBA port, glad i didn't. now is a good time to play the original with better art. have they said anything about the music?

They redid the music in I & II on the PSP, so no reason to believe they won't for this new version. Or will they just recycle the DS' soundtrack? Hmmmm

it uses the exact same technique. prepare to type :/ a lot more when you finally get your hands on it.

Good lord what have you found. The 2008 copyright makes me think the DS port is getting a cellphone port...yay?
fakedit:beaten but I was right.

yup. keep putting out ports of that game that no one has asked for, and then bitch about low sales and how you won't do anything new for the series if we don't buy this bullshit.

thanks square.

...i'm probably going to buy it anyway; i'm part of the problem.

What does that mean, though... "flash games"?

In my opinion, that just means simple + crude art drawn in too high of a resolution.

With something like FF1 it's unavoidable. If you want to keep the simple style of the art, and redraw it in high res, it's probably gonna have that "flash game" look.. Unless you re-imagined the artstyle completely during the redraw..

or they could go the falcom way and include different soundtracks? but i don#t think square is cool enough for that.

I really hope this comes out in English, I know I can sink a lot of time into this given the chance. I am a little worried they won't bother though.

Why? It's basically free money.

I know SE USA is pretty lame when it comes to bringing over lesser known games, but I don't think they'll skip a cash cow where almost all the work is already finished.
