Anyone know the meaning of "Versus" in the title? What's that referring to? The father and son?

"To go against" the shit design philosophy of FFXIII.

ie. towns, exploration, etc.

On a superficial level, it's this game "versus" FFXIII.

if you think that chick clashes just wait until the rest of the game. This is a Kingdom Hearts-style game written by Nojima.

By the end of the game you won't even be able to articulate what happened without mentioning different dimensions, a plot hole the size of the grand canyon a legion of light armies that materialized from the tears of someone's butthole.
just like every JRPG :P

2xAA is useless if the resolution is as low as it was on the xbox (when played on a full HD screen), FF13 is not the only game to have this problem though. And what is incorrect about my other observations? Have you seen the floor textures on some of the early game areas?

But whatever, I just really really hate FF13 so maybe that clouds my judgement. Especially after FF12, which I loved.
If you consider it to be useless or not, you said it wasn't present, I was just pointing out you're talking shit.

Mad Max said:
Sub-HD, lack of AA and AF, shitty textures all over, bumpmapping seems nonexistant, lightning is bad. To top it off I hated the artstyle, but that's personal I guess. And the xbox version also had terrible compression on the CGI.

Not on the version I played...

Hopefully for Versus Nomura's team makes use of MLAA.

Well you didn't do a very good job then, did you? Because I said a lack of AA, not that it wasn't there at all. The point is that, atleast on the 360 (I'm sorry, I don't own a PS3 atm), the game simply has tons of jaggies.

There's your problem.

Regardless of your semantics, saying FFXIII is a bad looking game based on the 360 port is pretty ridiculous, it's like saying Bayonetta has garbage performance based only on the PS3 version.

FFXIII on PS3 looks incredible, and 720p/2xAA is a very common framebuffer set up for 360 (less so for PS3), it's IQ is basically the same, or better than most games.

Where are the women in this game

2

out of 20 are women? Men men men

Versus is one of the few games where I don't mind having a sausagefest cast. The cast looks great in those business suits :)

Not to mention that chances are pretty high a female will join the cast at some point in time. Odds are they can't show it because maybe the female member will initially play more of an antagonist role or something.

It's like my dream of playing as the Turks from FFVII has come true.

So it's ridiculous to judge a game based on how it looks on a certain populair console, even if it was made and published by SE themselves and I still paid the full 80 bucks for it?

But ok, I'll retract my first statement then and say that it's just the 360 version that's ugly. But you should realise that about 40% of the people who played this game did so on the 360, and to them (and me) the game was ugly.

More like 18%, but go on. Worldwide, that is.

FFXIII is beautiful. Dunno what you're talking about.

it's ridiculous that you paid 80 bucks

And Call of Duty is a piece of shit... It looks horrible on my Wii.

See how that sounds

Must... resist.. tag quote..

Anyhow, it's obvious that he dislikes the game's artstyle, played an inferior port, and generally hates the game. He's entitled to his opinion, let's all agree to disagree and move on.

I only remembered the first NPD numbers, but yeah I should have know that was not comparable to worldwide.

@FlashbladeGAF

You realise I'm implying that the 360 could have looked better, based on the capabilities of the hardware and compared to other games, don't you?

Okay, sure.

I think we should move on.

If anything you should be upset that Microsoft, who gave S-E a decent chunk of change for the port, didn't make sure their version was more presentable.

Less stupid talk about FFXIII. More Versus talk.

Interested in how they will incorporate the lore of Etros. As I understand it, it doesn't exactly share the same mythology of FFXIII. Perhaps the same ethos and themes. The realistic setting is juxtaposed with fantasy elements. We see two distinct settings, one in the city and one in the wilderness. Maybe a Japanese post-apocalyptic story.

just like most every GAME too. FF is particularly bad, though, I think in that regard.

What I do think about Versus is that it seems to merge the more cinematic/theatrical approach they seem to think defines the Final Fantasy series (according to their own quotes), with the more old school features of exploration (world map w/ airship/chocobo/tanks/mech). I think it APPEARS to do it very well and relatively seamlessly. I'm unsure as to how it'll function in practice but it makes me very happy to see it return. FF has never been 'non-linear', but it has always had a fairly good illusion that you were journeying on an epic journey across the world which has sorely been missed from modern iterations (sans FFXII and the online games. But who counts MMORPGS? ;)). And it's doing it without losing the more hand-holding storydriven nature that appeals to some of the newer fans as well.

It's coming together in a neat way, even despite the visual foibles I have.

Well in the end SE most likely made much more money of this port than MS. And I also think the dev/pub is responsible for the quality of their own games. Especially because SE were happy to take money from MS and from customers.

Not that I'm fond of MS, to the contrary actually. But I can't blame them for this myself.

But lets just move on now with this thread now I guess.

People whining about Final Fantasy with fantasy creatures and characters. I still cannot wrap my head around it. I want to slap them and ask, what did you expect?

CG clips look amazing. I wish Square would do another full CG movie like Final Fantasy Spirits Within.
I agree on both points. The series has only been around for a little under 23 years, you'd think people would've caught on after the fourth or fifth game. But no, of course not!

The only problem I see with the Behemoth is that it shows up so early(and, going by XIII, probably often) that it no longer seems like a special enemy.

Can't remember the last game where a Behemoth enemy was actually special. Just FFXI I think.

I really hope this game makes use of MLAA. In Little Big Planet 2 it looks damn sexy.

One more thing, I think they should just port over Agito (or whatever they are calling it now) over to PSP2. By the time it launches, the PSP2 will already have released. Might as well release it on the next-gen portable as opposed to the PSP with its broken ass one analog nub get up.

Square, I swore I would never buy another game from you after XIII. This is the final straw, videos look epic.

Maybe this is like XIII where what we're seeing is just a weak-ass version and then in 20 hours he'll come along and whoop your ass.

If it wasn't just a recolor of a werewolf, it would have been way cooler in XII.

Though the Behemoth King was pretty special.

So it's just really a way of connecting battle locations?

Yes, also finding items.

That was pretty great. Cg was amazing, in-engine graphics were a little underwhelming actually, at least from the perspective of i thought they looked better before i saw it in hi-res.

Battle system seems a bit iffy. Still not sure how they perceive this as a FF game. Very confusing marketing. Dont know if this is basically a 16 hour kingdom hearts game or a full final fantasy with different gameplay.

Fuck I wish I could afford a PS3, this looks so damn good.
I still think this could come to the 360. While it looks better then XIII, it's not a huge jump. XIII was really their first current gen game. They are better experienced now and I think a 360 port would be possible and not be a real downgrade.

WTF? Dissidia 012 Duodecim Prologus?

You forgot to add "Final Fantasy" to the end. :) It's Dissida 012 Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy.

The trailer looks even more amazing in HD. Now to forget this game exists since it's been reconfirmed that it is far off.

I think it'll be somewhere in the middle. Which is pretty awesome to me.

I just wish the trailer showed more in the way of exploration. It did look like any of those scenes could take place within a 'realistic' Kingdom Hearts, we know that stuff is in there, cars, airships etc, I just wish we'd gotten to see it.
