They better make it certain.

Seriously Nomura what the hell. You haven't shown gameplay after 4 years of development.

Square-Enix is lol

Don't forget that almost all of the staff was pulled off for FFXIII development.

It's probably only been in development for half that time
They seem to sit on their arses a good while at the start

Both Famitsu and Nomura agreed that the change is a major one.

Changing the appearance of the way the character icon is used in the world-map is a major change that is blocked by spoilers?

Do you even know what a spoiler is anymore, SE?

Apparently not, after that long cutscene pre-release trailer of FF13.

The fact that they are changing the world map doesn't bode well to see the game soon (If it's really true). SQE should never announce game too early. It's was pretty embarassing that Nomura talked only about finishing charaters clothes for months but now this is pretty ridiculous. It's not like he is obliged to show a world map. Heck some FF demo (VIII for example) didn't have a world map anyway. It seems he is trying to find reasons not to show anything.

I have a feeling they showed us this game too soon.
It's obvious they are still in the concept phase even 2-3 years after announcing the game.

Also, the overworld map dilema seems strange comming from the people that made KH...but I would go for a FFXII system anyday!

Fucking fire the entire Square Enix console division, let the FFXI & FFXIV group continue what theyre doing and promote the PSP team to being in charge of console outings. Its just fucking embarassing at this point. When Artoon and Feelplus are making grander more cohesive RPG experiences in HD, you know you've gone wrong somewhere :lol

crisis core is the worst rpg of all time and tetsuya nomura should be brought before the hague for war crimes

F.U.MANG.
Any game that has been tied or expanded to butcher FFVII's already spotty story (and this includes Advent Children, even though it is a movie) should have their respective dev. teams drawn out and quartered.

That's a sign of horrible management. And horrible management will always result in "bad timing" no matter what time it is. If you're not confident about your work 2 years into production, then your company has issues that derive from the top and trickles down to the bottom. I feel sorry for the talent that has to deal with their superior's lack of vision, lack of commitment or lack of talent. Whatever the cause it creates drama and wasted time which results in having to crunch over and over again.

I can only hope they do a much better job with Versus XIII localization than what I've seen of XIII's. IE, Versus better not have any vocal songs for them to screw up.
Oh my goodness. Leona Lewis better stay 50 million miles away from Versus. I would prefer Versus to not have a songstress at all, since S-E might want to continue to put songs in FF games that are from popular singers. Heck, they used a song from Echo that wasn't even written for FFXIII. It just shows that not much thought went into it. I was really hoping they would go with not well known singers in FF games. Like, Angela Aki, I had no idea who she was before FFXII. Well, one good things is that the music that we have heard so far for Versus is really good, but it would be ruined if they put in a random song from a popular artist.

If Leona Lewis draws in more sales for FFXIII, I don't think S-E cares.

oh for fuck's sake.

get your shit together, square. this is embarrassing.

Then the two of them can create their own development company: Keep Yourself in Belts.

I think Matsuno should go back to make more games with whoever wants to give him job, while Nomura goes to work as a clothes designer in Italy.

I have to wonder how far along the game is. It's obvious Nomura is aiming for high quality, so no doubt he's been tweaking and revising the game...
Is scaling back the world map "tweaking" though?

In FF, you either have a world map or you don't... so it's going to basically be like FFX, X-2 or XIII.

This isn't very welcoming news, imo. This makes me think it will be more linear than originally planned.

Who cares if Noctis looks small running around on a map? Seriously? Why is having a world map such a bad thing, argh.

I think any developer that had a chance to hire Matsuno and didn't should be burned to the fucking foundation. That includes you, Nintendo! The guy even liked your controller.

But why is the need for a world map with some sort of SD character running around? Why not instead make streamlined areas? The current hardware allows perfectly to have them, FFXIV is going to have them.

They were aiming for the traditional sense.

You are confusing yourself, this is a World Map:

The ones where you run around are the field areas, FFXII works like XI in that respect, and XIV is improving into that by making a single world, as far as we know so far, including cities and dungeons, that are streamlined and do not require changing areas with loading screens as in many other games.

The budget for XIV is likely three times that for Versus as well.

But my point was that from a design standpoint and hardware-wise, it's an advancement following XI and XII, which in both cases they attempted to make a more realistic world by making big open areas linking to each other.

In this day and age, making a realistic looking game on current console (or PC) hardware, and having an old school world map with as I said, Super Deformed characters of the same size of some mountain, would not fit the style of the game.

Anyway, I understand your point about the budget and magnitude of projects.

Everyone should just skip whatever Versus is and move on to XIV.

The more people playing the better. :)

Don't worry about it, by the time Versus comes out, the second expansion for XIV will be released and XV will be close to release too :lol

If they did change it to be more like XII's map, I think that might work out better. Realistic scale and what not.

I'm of the opinion that, the more like XII FF games are the better off we'll all be. ;)

Nope sorry, thats a Continent Map (if that, more like a multi country map)

I want to take an airship, go straight, and end up back where I started 5 minutes later... nothing else is exceptable!! You hear me Nomura and Square!!

The only boundary I respect is gravity
until some sweet moon dlc!!!
