Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age |OT| You Had One Job!

Anyone have a chance you try out remote play on a Vita? Curious to see impressions for that. Going to be traveling soon and interested in giving this a shot, but would have to use my Vita away from home.

Just got to the part where Penelo joins. Hardest part of the game, as I know have to seriously think about job distribution. I mean, Vaan as a Shikari was a pretty straightforward choice. But now I feel like I'm in way over my head, as I haven't got a clue what each job's characteristics are (I'm talking about strengths, weaknesses, party roles, compatibility with other jobs, etc.).

Maybe I should just pick what feels right for each character and not worry about min/maxing and all that stuff. All I know right now is that I want both Penelo and Fran in a melee role, so I'm thinking of going with Monk and Breaker for them, respectively. Guess I'll worry about the others (and everybody's second jobs...) when I get there.

I wouldnt stress out over job assignments too much guys

Game isnt going to kick your teeth in to the point you can't devise a solution to every fight with what you have

Just have fun with it

I choose jobs based on who looks cool doing what

I keep forgetting to steal from bosses, but if I use a gambit, then they never stop stealing. I'm in a predicament.

What if you use a gambit on a few of your members where if the Foe has full health they're stealing, so that when someone attacks they all swap from Steal to Attack?

Yup I wish there was an option to choose between the two. I like having the 3d models but the art was great.

I guess its understandable. The art was made for 480p screens. Upscale it to 1080p probably wouldn't look pretty, so they just scrapped it for models that are already in the game.

Only a few hours in but FFXII still resonates, and I've forgotten enough that it feels fresh again. Really happy to see the game get such an excellent treatment overall. Whoever came up with the fast forward button deserves a raise, great idea.

Remastered soundtrack is insanely good. Had to pause in a few locations just to soak in the arrangements.

this has probably been asked 2348924 times. But why not 60 FPS...

Because the game logic is tied to the fps. Same with FFX/X-2, even on the PC release.

Unlock the FPS and the game will break. Modders still can't figure it out a year later since FFX/X-2 came to PC.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Vanilla FFXII really sucks, like one of my major gripes is the license board because the characters can end up similar.

Good thing this changes it a lot. It's probably my 7th or 8th favorite FF now. I still don't appreciate the Matsuno aesthetics and the overly wordy stuff though, but that's subjective.

One of the thing that annoys me about this game is how other characters who aren't in battle don't gain exp. Means either stick with 3 characters or grind them all equally.

Does anyone else try to keep everyone levels up to date?

btw I made my Vaan an Archer.

I don't regret it lol

I thought it would be fun to write a small guide --

....

Thanks so much for this, it was a really, really helpful - I'd previously been using the old guide you linked to, along with other guides, and kept going around in circles. I'd been thinking of Balthier as a Shikari/Foebreaker and Basch as a Bushi/Unhlan, but was worried the class combos weren't right. I'd also been considering swapping them around (Basch=hammer time!), which looks like it should be fine.

...and now for the Esper sorting hell! I'm actually planning on starting the game at some damn point...

(I spent a few minutes listening to title screen music, and like other people have mentioned, I was sad when the old menu trailer didn't begin to play. I guess it wasn't worth re-editing together, but boo.)

"The treaty would be signed with steel... and writ with royal blood."

Still gives me chills.

Goddamn FFXII and its dialogue porn.

Back in vanilla, I used to just concentrate on 3 characters. When IZJS came out, I made an effort to balance it out, especially since jobs were added in. It actually makes the game a lot more fun in my opinion. You might be a bit underleveled at times, but with fast forward, it's not a problem.

I'm not looking for a guide on what jobs to pick, I'd like to decide that for myself. But it can be hard to make meaningful decisions with such a lack of knowledge.

How do weapons scale in damage? For instance, I saw in the game's own primer that katanas scale with magic. But then I read online in passing that katanas actually scale with BOTH strength and magic. The game also says that polearms are defended by magic defense without telling me what polearms actually scale with. Is there a good reference for weapon class info?

I see on each license board that there are spaces that are not connected to the main board. These spaces often have technicks/magicks that are wholly unrelated to the job I'm looking at. What does that mean?

Still trying to decide if I want Vaan to be a Monk or a Shikari...

Also - love the remastered soundtrack's version of Rabanastre.

Haha, glad it had some use. I think picking jobs and thinking about setups is a lot of fun.

Another one you should know about is that guns don't base their damage off of strength, they are stat independent. That makes them work really well with characters like Penelo that have low strength growth. Otherwise I think that's it.

The spaces you can't reach can be activated later through espers later.

Thanks, will do.

Trying to choose the right jobs for the right characters is all good and well, but it shouldn't stop you from playing the game because you need to read multiple faqs on the issue.

At least, not on your first playthrough.

Anyone else miss the art from the bestiary?
Absolutely. Loved reading the descriptions in the original combined with the artwork. It was like reading a book actually in the game--old, used, the pages yellow and a bit faded... The 3D-models lessen that experience somewhat.

After about two hours of agonizing (haven't even started the game, but I figured it'd be best to do this now and not worry about it again lmao), I've decided on:

Vaan: Shikari/Foebreaker
Balthier: Machinist/White Mage
Fran: Archer/Red Mage
Basch: Knight/Time Mage
Ashe: Bushi/Uhlan
Penelo: Black Mage/Monk

Went with a bit of both optimizing and lore-based approaches. Think I'll be happy with this. Now to play for two hours stress free!

Is Knight/Black Mage a good setup for Fran? (I already made her a Knight, I'm debating my final setup for an all-girl team)

It has some good points. Mainly the 16 magic lores Knight will get that will really buff the healing spells. If you use it the other way around (Black Mage as main) you benefit from the Knight HP lores and Heavy Armor option. The cons are that it only gets 2 Swiftness (3 is preferable) and that casting healing spells and black magic can be too much for a single unit. Roll with it if you like it though.

Been saying this for years. XII has easily one of the best soundtracks of the series. Glad the remaster is making more people notice that.

I just had Vaan Enemy HP = 100% > Steal.

It generally works fine because Vaan starts Steal while everyone is getting ready to tag the leader's target.

Probably this have been answer a lot but there is an ultimate guide about jobs per character?

What is the optimal job for each character?
I'm in the beginning with vaan.

Man the soundtrack is just soooooo good.
Its almost like a good star wars soundtrack in parts lol moreso that the actual last sw movie.

Also this speed mode might ruin the game for me.
Im so comfortable with the mechanics that so far ive defeated 3 bosses on auto mode with 4x speed lol.
Need that difficulty spike.

For the classes i think ive settled on a balance of cool animations and optimality.
Vaan - shikari > breaker
Panelo - monk > black mage
Balthier - knight > samurai
Fran - archer > red mage
Basch - time mage > uhlan
Ashe - White mage > machinist

Still not sure about the last two tbh

So just got Balthier and Fran. I'm not really sweating job combos to be honest. Will pick stuff that I like generally.

The thing that is striking me is how little I remember of the opening of the game. Honestly my vague memories from ~10 years ago was farming a lot of malboros and the Viera village and a couple of other small things.

Glad I picked it up because it still feels fresh since its been so long. I didn't forget the music which even
with the remastered tracks I still like it a lot.

So Trial Mode is totally the way to break this game now. Quick boss rush means easy LP farming, and it looks like most of the top weapons can be stolen from the enemies there. It all transfers back to your save in the main game now.

Hope you guys are enjoying the game!

I'm currently in a battle with Amazon customer service because this is the fourth time they've fucked up a release date delivery...like why the hell do I even pay for Prime

I am actually taken aback by how shit the textures look. Like, this almost never happens to me, but it's reached the point where I find the game really, really unpleasant to look at. The FFX remaster was perfect - they repainted the textures at a higher resolution. What the fuck happened here? It looks like they took the old textures, added a quick paintbrush filter in photoshop, then on top of the now still-blurry-as-fuck-but-with-a-PS-filter-on-them textures, added a layer of...other textures. In towns and cities it just looks like some blurry ass PS2 textures (why do they seem uglier than in the original game?) painted on oddly, distractingly detailed concrete/stone/wood/etc. It looks so awful and I almost never complain about this stuff. Whoever did this remaster should have done it properly by re-painting the textures, like in FFX/FFX-2 HD. What a fucking mess. At least the gameplay is improved this time around.

It's so damn beautiful. The game finally gets what it deserves.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
So, loot. Sell it all? Some of it has descriptions like it is useful for item creation in the beginning of the game.

This game sounds so damn good with headphones

Yeah I wasn't even thinking about it and just threw on the headset when I reached Giza Plains. 7.1 sounds great indeed.

Also, I HAD to turn the battle speed up 2 notches. Feels way better now.

So far Vaan as Shikari and Penelo as Monk was a good start, just got Balthier and Fran. The guide is once again proving to make this a much more enjoyable and less time wasting experience.

Everything but teleport stones.

You must also hate FF6 and FF10, huh.

Actually, I'm not a big fan of the characters being similar thing either. I think I didn't like vanilla FFXII because it's a mix of that and the aesthetics.

I love FFVI, FFVII, and FFX but the system was just... OK. The aesthetics made up for it.

I think the only systems I really liked are FFIV's, FFIX's, and FFXIII's.

Edit: Actually FFXIII becomes something like the all similar thing but that's when you fully unlock the Crystarium when you finish the game.

Iirc digital foundry said the textures are that way because they implemented some kind of bump mapping. Ffx had no lighting improvements. It was a straight uprez

Miss Sky Pirate Den, bestiary art and the initial loadup animation but otherwise a great remaster so far. 4x speed is gonna be great for clearing some areas
