Final Fantasy XIII-2 might be real

I wasn't a huge fan of XIII but I'm anxious to see what they do with this seeing the different road they took with X-2.

I think it would be cool to be in charge of Snow's little gang.

I too was disappointed by the way Thirteen handled direct inputs. I wasn't Twelve's biggest fan, I did put something like two hundred hours into it though, but the gambit system was a scratch on the surface of huge potential. Thirteen, while having some great battle aspects itself, was a sharp decline from Twelve in the party A.I. system.

To be honest, I won't be surprised if this ended up an action RPG styled game featuring Lighting.

What makes you think it'd be an ARPG?

Granted, maybe they could actually make the gravity-manipulation and Overclock stuff happen this time around (NEVER FORGET)

There is no reason that they couldn't make this a good action game. Lightning and Sazh were the only two good characters. I didn't hate Fang very much and though I hated Vanille I understood that her character was a caricature of itself.

The game's battle system is all about speed and having the feeling that the tide of battle can turn anytime. Commanding the AI would slow it down and destroy that feeling, so there's no point to having it. Should a gambit like system be in place? Maybe.

This.

Positioning is totally secondary and would be bad for the type of battle system. It's about controlling the flow of the battle, it's about speed and adapting to it's always changing battle conditions.

Also positioning was way more important in Last Remant and it was even worst than in XIII that at least somehow let you to control relative position of your characters, it was totally random, and I think is acknowledged as a very good battle system.

IA could have been way better, actually it was asking for a gambit alike system...and people was against it since the first details were revealed. They work well most of the time, but when it comes to debuffing/buffing they are useless.

They would be fine with more gambits. I think the gambit system, though it has great potential, is too complex, at it's heightened potential, for the vast majority of gamers.

That is totally amazing. It doesn't change that

a.) Position is important
b.) You have no control over your position

that you are ok with an important aspect being out of your control and the game frequently putting you in poor positioning is fine but it's irrelevant.
The point I was trying to make is that I don't understand why people specifically complain about it FFXIII while grandia and FFX-2 were lauded (more realism) for having the same feature.

Yes, I do like controlling games where the A.I. works poorly *golf clap*
First of all, I couldn’t think of a better general configuration. You can’t argue the AI brakes the game because it’s perfectly possible to 5-star every battle with the correct roles and equipment. If it wasn’t, you had an argument.

Secondly, you need to accept that FFXIII is all about working with a fixed AI. You’re not supposed to control partmembers directly but to coach them. It’s macromanagement gameplay just like gran turismo B-spec or football manager 2009.
You can curse all day long how the driver AI doesn’t overtake the car in front by driving over a small stroke of grass like you usually do or you could just accept that (even if you’re a better driver) you’re not the one sitting in the car and do your job which is giving the AI the right car with the right settings and then give the right commands in order to make him win.

3, the biggest pro of FFXIII's fixed AI system is that it makes the entire game challenging for most gamers because it buffers player skill. The devs were able to scale the difficulty level properly because they could configure it with only one AI template in mind.
FFXII’s gambit system was excellent as well, but on one hand you had skilled players who got bored, on the other hand you had less skilled or experienced gamers who got slaughtered because they had poor skill priorities and roles for their party members.

i take it you've never played legend of dragoon or shadow madness then.

edit: forgot about beyond the beyond and quest 64.

I wish I could forget about Beyond the Beyond, but it's like the time I walked in on my mother and her boyfriend getting it on.

Forever etched in my memory.

Forever scarred.

Forever.

FFXIII is the worst RPG ever made.

so you never played Mass Effect 2

I can do hyperbole too

FFXIII features a fun battle system at least, and some good graphics (PS3) and music to keep you entertained during the first 30 hours of exploring hallways... man, after playing Demon's Souls every other RPG looks like trash.
