Why are people so fucking bitter? It's not like SE announced that FF XIII is 360 exclusive. You're still getting your precious FF, you should be happy. Why do you care if it's coming to another console, why do you want to hoard it to yourself? Don't you want people who can only afford one console and chose 360 to enjoy the game as well? Thanks for revealing to the world what ridiculous fanboys you are.

I agree FFXIII versus will most probably be on X360 too. Sony isn't capable of keeping exclusives this gen.
"We don't pay for exclusives."

How's that policy working out?

I wasn't trying to make a comparison to MS -- so much as a point about how, given the realities of the marketplace, the old loyalties are disappearing, and the era of the third-party exclusive is disappearing altogether on the HD consoles.

fixed.

I'm just kind of shocked that a Japanese company would fuck over another Japanese company in such a humiliating and high profile way. I mean, they could have at least leaked it or something to take away the impact, but man, this makes me wonder if there is bad blood between Sony and SE that they would smack Sony down so hard and ferociously. Ouch. I've never thought the PS3 was in trouble, I always thought it'd do reasonably well even when it was hurting, but this is a really huge blow to the console. I think this was the biggest exclusive Sony had, and by far.

I also think that Sony's strategy of not money hatting games is a complete and total failure. They need to realize this without delay. It's too late for the PS3 now that they lost this franchise as an exclusive, but if they want to stay in the business with the PS4, they will need to start playing in the ballpark that Microsoft is, or they'll just continue to forfeit the game. Microsoft was brilliant in deciding that instead of buying studios they were going to ensure that every 3rd party game came out for their system, and that they would money-hat key exclusive games. This new strategy is clearly a winning one for Microsoft.

i agree with you. but seeing how Square fucked Nintendo over when they announced FF7 for the PS, this doesn't come as a surprise to me.

I'm with nfreak. It's kinda shocking...but then again it really isn't. Exclusivity - now THAT would have been a MEGATON IMO.

Seriously.

I had to quote this one guys.

I firmly believe that, despite Sony's parade of "we don't pay for exclusives" comments over the years, that they have firmly supported S-E in the development of FFXIII (and it's ilk) in order to retain console exclusivity. I'd be very surprised if that changed. I think S-E is content to let tri-Ace do the heavy lifting in supporting the 360 with its content, and I was pretty underwhelmed by the 'RPG conference' as a whole. No real surprises. I mean, I love tri-Ace, and think these announcements are great, but it felt like the 360 got the B-team, while the A-team are free to frolic away on the PS3. Just my two cents.

Mielke owned :lol

Gotta quote this one again.

That signed letter from Nintendo is some funny shit. Karma is a mother fucker, but it just go’s to show you that everyone has a price.

Square is no different than any other company, in any other field in the world; they've got bills to pay just like everyone else. This move really isn't that shocking.

Megaton would be exclusively jumping ship to MS. That would truly be fucking epic.

thats interesting that Japanese sales will increase due to a game not being released on the console there...

Oh I didn't know that it wasn't coming out in Japan for the 360.

My bad :(

I can pretty much track my childhood and growth to adulthood alongside the releases of Final Fantasy games. It's funny how my maturation ended up paralleling that of the series itself. I guess I'm just blessed that by coincidence my birth happened at the exact time to make something like this even possible. Wide eyed and excited, brash and sure of righteousness and good in the world, I felt drawn to FF4 (2 US) on the SNES like no game I had ever been drawn to before. A few years later I was a little more vulnerable, understanding of my need for friendships and trust, and FF6 (3 US) was there as well, Terra and I were going through the same experiences in our lives. I purchased a Playstation just because of FFVII, and I was rewarded for my trust with only the greatest game to ever grace a console. Bold, deep, mature, it was everything I was craving. The loss of Aerith paralleled a deep personal loss I had experienced just prior IRL, and just like with FF6, I felt like the game and I sort of got through the

This has to one of the most if not the most under-the-table-dealing generations ever. So much stealing and dealing. :lol But, c'mon sharing is caring
about the money.

(T)he aggregated 360/ps3 userbase is our last, best bulwark against the casual trash that dominated even that (M)icrosoft conference(.)

Yup, that's pretty much right. RPGs have so very rarely push a system's limits, so this is probably good news for RPGs in general.

However, I still have reservations about the non-harddrive 360's that are still technically supported. I really want developers to make games that assume an install of somekind, as load times in or out of battles/menus have been murder in recent RPGs.

(P.S.- Don't abandon PS3 as an RPG system yet. The SMT series is still to announce its new home, and considering how much stronger its sales have been in Japan than in the US, I don't think it is necessarily going to be dual console).

this will sell dozens in japan!

maybe 3 extra copies, but the game will spans 8 DVDs and remember that Lost Odyssey

packages?

you will get 3 discs in the middle, 1 in the sleeve and lastly cut out the upc and mail it in to

get the other 4 discs in mail.

Now that the Square Enix president is at E3, maybe he will announce some stuff at the Nintendo and Sony conferences as well. Kingdom Hearts maybe? :lol

Wow, quite the megaton. I don't buy the "this will make it inferior" responses. The only thing that I can think of thats a real negative is that this may add to the delay in release.

Other then that its which version do I get, acheivements or trophies?

Man, this is really turning my PS3 into one big Blu-ray movie player.

This is big... but not as big as FFVII exclusivity for PlayStation.

Square 100% abandoning Nintendo for Sony. That was epic on a scale this announcement can only dream of.

ff13 on 360 may have made microsoft (as of now) win e3, but lets not forget their shitty presentation with a lackluster showing of good games.

Announcing a game that has already been announced is not that big news really. I would have liked them to come out with something original.

That would've been a scary deal for Sony fanboys and anyone in their vacinity.

All it takes for the PS3's death as a gaming platform is for MGS4 to arrive on the 360 sometime next year.

As of now my PS3 is a bluray player only.

so now sony only has white knight, that game had better be amazing
..and SMT4, but if FF13 can't remain exclusive, I don't see how Atlus can afford to release their biggest title on one console.

Is that question rhetorical, looks like you already answered it.

This is System Wars (tm) megaton. Sure. Blood on the concrete.

But as a gamer im underwhelmed because we are all flipping about a game that was already announced. =[

I want new and exciting things to be in development.

That said, good going MS. Sony should step up to the plate now. And who really wins here is nintendo. Competition diferentiation diluted.

Does this mean FFXIII has been switched to the cross platform engine?
That would kind of suck ass since I am sure it would have been far more graphically impressive if
it had just gone to one console. I really wanted to see what they could do with a the ps3 hardware.

I agree entirely, and wasn't trying to put down what you were saying. This doesn't make the PS3 any less useful as much as it makes the 360 more useful. The bottom line is that the only REAL exclusives on either system at this point are first or second party. If you want GT5, LBP, KZ2, Singstar, Resistance, Warhawk, etc you pick up a PS3. If you want Halo, Rare games, or Bioware exclusives (for the most part) you get a 360. If you are a gamer and want both, you get both systems.

those saying this kills the PS3 are silly. It is no less useful than it was yesterday. It's not like FFXIII is leaving the system or a timed exclusive on 360.

about the only way this affects me negatively is that my friend who was using FFXIII as the sole reason to pick up a PS3 probably won't now. Oh well..
