The open field stuff looks bad, yeah.
But the town areas look nice. Seeing as this is the first game on the Crystal Tools engine though to be release, perhaps the next games to come from it will look improved.

Yeah the twons look solid.

I would have thought that at this point most people acceptec the fact that the grass is going to look bad in a VG.

:lol

XV will look great. :D

My random comment of the day.

Game looks pretty nice, I kinda like the monster designs. Hopefully they have a good amount of enemy types/skeletons to mix-and-match with.

That line reminds me of something Barret would say, which is why I like it :lol

SHINRA JES THINKS DAT SUCKIN UP ALL DAT MAKO WILL BE ALL SUGAR AND RAINBOWS

Better if you did not.

I swear, that better not be Sazh talking...

Also, i retract my statement from a couple of pages back, Fang definitely is the best design that Nomura has spawned.

There's something up with Fang's chin.

And elbows and ears.

There is just something off with the modeling.

Also, there is something about that scene that says: "Let us have angry sex after the others have gone to sleep"

Well the elbows and ears are mostly because the model isn't very high poly, so you can actually see the individual polygons.

The chin... I think it's more that her mouth is too high on her face in some of the screenshots. If you look at Sazh's closeup his mouth is much lower and more natural.

I actually think Fang has the worst in-game model of the main character group; it looks kinda bland and lacks the details that make the CGI render vibrant and recognizable. The rest of the gang works better because they have stronger colors in their design, Fang just kinda gets lost in the background.

I disagree that she looks bland, but i agree that her model is the worst(granted, i am no expert).

Her face is what suffers the most. In the CG shots, it looks stronger and more 'Latina', but in-game it looks a lot more 'Asian'.

Lol, that dialogue is definitely for Fang; she has an australian accent. And she's from Pulse too.

Though I have to say Sazh's model looks incredible.

Unless, of course, if you've played Crysis, or Uncharted 1/2, or a number of other games that actually try to do grass.

Yeah, they're definitely using 3 tiers of models for the game. That one being the highest quality, and ones with a lower poly count for some cutscenes and then an even lower poly model for in-battle/on field.

I'm already sold on the dialogue :lol

Eh... even the Japanese script from what has been seen is laughable.

@CrushDance: FF9 is the most underwhelming of the PS1 entries.

@lordarkflare: How many times must this be repeated? Nomura designed Lightning. Period.

Forget Fang's chin, look at how embaressingly low-poly her elbow and under-arm area is :S

And that is a damn shame. It is a good thing he got better after that bout of bad taste.

First part is wrongness to the nth degree.

Everything else is fine.

That bellybutton is shit.

When are developers going to actually render bellybuttons? I thought we were above pixelated navels.

And ears, elbows, armpits, chins, etc.

Her model is painful to look at, but she is still hotness, and contrary to what some people say, she is the best piece of art from Nomura(better than Stella even).

Blame Square for making two different cutscene models.

Believe it or not, much like grass, modeled belly buttons are really not that uncommon.

Though, I think we've established how the game is going to look already. The final details people really seem to be looking for here would take another 4-6 months of engine development and optimization, and I'm pretty sure that's been ruled out of the question long ago.

Yes guys, go fix those measly details for them since SE is sooo lazy to do it themselves. The only thing I dislike are the ground texture, kind of hypocritical I know, but that's the only thing I want them to improve on right now. If only tessellation was unabled on consoles.

When did they change this? Last I remember they mentioned it runs on Unreal's "cross-platform", with modifications made for their needs (like any other advanced UE3 game).

Edit - Just saw that. Are you sure their "Crystal Tools" has no UE3 technologies? I swear parts of the game are rendering things like UE3 core, but maybe I've been playing too much Mass Effect lately and its rubbing off on my eyes :(

The demo I played of the game didn't have a UE3 look at all...less texture heavy, but overall rendering and lighting are much nicer...much cleaner too...It looks significantly better than any UE3 rpg Ive played at least

The next Jump scan(s) should be interesting. Chocobos are going to be shown, and apparently they look really cute. And Hope's summon is also revealed as Alexander. :)
