I guess with playing so many rpgs, the characters and stories start to seem generic.

I can understand after FFX(FF9 really) there's been hard to find this one person in a FF that was as awesome as Ceccil/Shadow or as bad as Sephiroth/Kefa or as messed up as Cloud or as romantic as Tidus/Yuna and Squall/Rinoa/Seifer or as transexual as Kuja or as hot as Rikku/Lulu or as interesting as Vivi/Red XIII or.....well you get my point.

I do believe that FF13 will establish itself as well known for SOMETHING or SOMEONE in the FF universe.....

"as transexual as Kuja" Aaaaaaahahahahahaha

Am I the only one who was looking forward to this game, but after seeing some bad melodrama in cutscenes, is reconsidering it?

I have always enjoyed Final Fantasy gameplay, but the terrible stories/acting/dialogue is finally getting to me. I'll probably get it anyways when it's about to come out and everyone is hyped up, but right now I'm actually thinking about skipping it.
I am in this camp. I still will buy it in hopes the gameplay and general polish outweights the soap operadrama. z

I know this has nothing to do with anything, but I'll say it anyway. I fired up an old, old save of GTA San Andreas today, and my CJ was the spitting image of Sazh! I'd recommend doing this. :)

Well, after FFXII, I was interested to see FFXIII. But after all the reveals it's pretty much been all bad, all the time.

About the only positive news about this title throughout its development has been that it's composed by Masashi Hamauzu.

I knew from the first time I read that article stating that they wanted to make the game and its gameplay "Advent Children-like" that I would probably dislike the direction (since Advent Children is atrocious and the worst thing Squeenix has ever done); I didn't expect to be repulsed by it to this level. It's the least appealing FF of all time, bar none.

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinions!

I must say I am pretty excited. Maybe it's the anime fan in me but I like what I see. I've never minded melodrama or jpop and the game certainly looks slicker than any FF we've ever seen before.

I am an anime fan and am still repulsed(not enough not to get it), but i see what you mean.

Agreed. Everything we've seen so far outside the battle system is exactly what I want from a Final Fantasy game. There is little doubt in my mind that this will enter my top 3 FF list.

Not a fan of typical Shonen series I'm assuming?

Jesus no.

Do you consider Claymore to be typical?

Other than that, i like Bleach solely because Kubo' art (I admire them as i quietly ask myself: Who writes this shit?).

Nope, Claymore is not typical.

And we can agree on Bleach. I just turn my brain off and watch the insanity unfold.

But yeah, people that like Naruto, One Piece, etc are the ones who like this kind of story. Trashy and poorly written to a lot of people, but we enjoy it and that's why we're looking forward to the story in FFXIII.

Now that I've had a few days to calm down about it, I'm actually warming up to the inclusion of an American pop song in an FF game. The only part that bothers me is the notion that there is a "real" Japanese version of the game, which has been altered by an American "edit" of the original game. This random American song has been grafted onto a Japanese game, with the Japanese song originally written for it left on the cutting room floor.

Next time I hope they plan the game with the American song in mind. So we could have an American song as the centerpiece (A Japanese audience will be well used to American music while it retains its international selling power) Or we could have both a Japanese song and an American song woven into the game! Think about the possibility here... we could have a world-marketable English track to sell to both American audiences as well as the English-friendly Japanese.... and we'd have a Japanese track for the native market and for japanophile fans! Now that I really think about this, I'm sure it's a great solution for everyone!

Leona Lewis is British.
Sorry.... "western". Go ahead and replace every instance of "American" with "Western" if you want. English-speaking I mean.

I'm Canadian and I made that mistake :lol

...it's just a fucking song. You'll hear it once and that's it. Why is this such a big deal/a deal at all?

I agree so much, a lot of what i've seen so far looks stupid.

All i read about is music, character details, cinematics and intricacies of the combat system. I'm struggling to find basic gameplay info... Can you navigate around a world map? Do you move from area to area like in FFXII? Airships? Environments? Mini-games?

Also from videos i've seen it looks like when you engage an enemy you get whisked away to an "arena".. wtf this shit is back?? Does it happen every time? This was acceptable 15 years ago but now i'm playing on a PS3. It's like how FFX had random battles, i get annoyed by these archaic mechanics that stick around too long.

Jump news:

Showcasing of some monsters - Giant Cactuar, Adamantaimai, Behemoth. The FFXIII Adamantaimai is supposed to be so huge it looks like a SotC fight.

The official name for Pulse is Grand Pulse. Throughout Grand Pulse there are things (NPCs? Objects? Not sure.) known as Dark Inscriptions, which provide optional missions for the player. This is the new gameplay system revealed this week.

Still no Vanille summon. :lol

...what?

I was starting to think that Pulse was mainly going to be a giant open area with lots of sidequests and this encourages me to think that I was correct.

What? That's the name of the planet. While it's commonly called Pulse (or more specifically it's referred to as the lower world) by Cocoon citizens, the proper name of the planet is Grand Pulse. That's all. No big deal.

Ah, okay. I was just wondering who within the game had the authority to officially give it a name, but if that's the actual name of the planet and Pulse is a nickname, that makes sense.

I wonder if there'll be any context-sensitive moves (think some of the scripted Trigger stuff from FFX, but more interesting and flashier, maybe similar to the Reaction commands from KH2) since they are trying to go for more cinematic battles in this game, and I imagine that'd be especially necessary with huge bosses unless you want to spend the whole game attacking their feet until somehow they die as a result of this.

Vanille's summon better be Diablos at this point. >:(

Why don't we just start speculating what Diablos' drive mode would be? :P A giant toaster... from HELL!

Edit: Or maybe Doom Train. :o

A western song is a decent addition, and will probably also serve the purpose of enhancing their advertising of the game here and in commercials. I guess most of the shock came from it being from Leona Lewis. But I wonder what they will do for the other games in the ffxiii universe, would versus be highlighted by the use of a "male singer group"

It would be cool if Dia Vanille's summon actually turned out to be Diablos. Strangely, she's become the only character I find interesting -- as I know the least about her. Everyone else just seems kind of... dumb.

Isn't Siren in this? I wonder what her transformation is. Unless there are summons that don't have transformations?

I think it will be Carbuncle. Could be wrong though.

You're probably not wrong, didn't they show Carbuncle already? Didn't it turn into a compact disc or something? Probably goes in Burnhildr's CD player for some kind of stronger attack.

so uhhh......i missed this but

what's the basic premise of this game? have they revealed much story?

ive seen like two trailers i think....

She looks to be the dumbest of them all imo. Quite literary. Maybe it's just because she reminds me of this girl I knew. Boy was she DUMB.

Carbuncle, Ifrit and Siren are
mascots of Nautilus park. They're reimagined summons that are based off l'cie legends. I.E. They're the Mickey, Donald and Minnie of Cocoon.
They mentioned this in the last batch of the Famitsu scans.

Also, the Fal'cie at
Palomporom, the one that is in charge of food production, is called Fal'cie Carbuncle.
It's the swirling face thing that appears during Lightning's monologue with hope.

Adamantaimai looks WOWZERS. So eager to fight that.

Hey now, it's pretty crappy, but it's no Secret of Mana.

I doubt they're going to reveal much about Vanille before the game is released, I think they're going to play her as the mysterious, plot-twist character of the game.

Interesting.

Oh wow hunts are in? that is awesome. That was one of the reasons I stuck through XII. I think I might reconsider my stance on this game now :D

Yeah, would spend dozens of hours just going those missions. Gives you something to divert from the main story especially when you start getting a sense you're almost to the end. Lead to some neat optional boss fights too :D
