Final Fantasy XV gameplay @ PAX West

What? That's actually pretty terrible. I really don't like that, it's going to be something that's plain annoying.

Stat customization allows you to direct your character toward a certain build, be it more magic oriented, attack, defense, etc.... Lack of it makes the whole thing just lore generic. Meh.

I like stat customization too - but it's in some FFs outside of a menu/skill tree - like VI w/ espers. Wonder if there will be anything like that here....

If you speak Japanese and are interested, it was said during this Kingsglaive Making of stream (maybe they said more about it?):

Maybe to me it's not a big deal because I'm a westerner? But even then, now that they've put western elements, and having been born in Europe before moving to Canada, I see the western motif in the game and that doesn't bug me - it makes me appreciate it even more.

Of course it's a matter of taste in the end. Obviously not all Japanese dislike it. I had no issues with the product placement stuff either so far, others were completely distracted by it.

Basically whichever the case, not everyone is always happy lol. There must be a line drawn by the devs at some point, the game is their own and they should believe in their own vision.

Exactamente.

Honestly I've never had issues with product placement in a game if anything it makes the game seem more real even if it's fantasy. Unless there is only one big billboard with a real brand in the game then it is out of place.

People talked about product placement in Kingsglaive but I didn't notice any of them except for the Audi, because that car is instantly recognisable, so I never understood how something that someone can miss despite watching it twice can be jarring.

This is actually really cool. lol.
Roen, Coleman, Audi, Vivienne Westwood. Pretty classy world building

I wonder why are these brands in the game.
Certainly not to promote themselves, as clearly FF players are anything but their target audience.

My understanding is when Nomura was heading up XV he had Roen design the outfits for the main cast since he's a fan of Roen's.

S-E gets paid for it and it also attracts people who aren't interested in video games to check out FFXV, since new outlets that focus on cars, fashion and stuff are likely to report the inclusion of these brands in the game.

The stats come from the weapons, its upgrades, accessories, and character levels.

I know, and temporarily with food. I'm just curious if there's an external mechanism for permanent stat boosts, like an item that increases offense when consumed that you can farm end game or something.

This footage looked great! They're really working to put on that last bit of polish and it's definitely showing.

The only issue that I saw that continues to be a problem was the camera. It wasn't happy in those narrow areas, especially with 3 party members all jumping around. Saw a lot of clipping occur as well.

Just occurred to me, there probably was a little bit more of Aranea that the theatre got to see which we didn't before the stream cut back to the console feed.

SQUEENIX GIVE

Her battle theme sounded so good too. I need this soundtrack in my veins.

Yeah, I wonder if in tight spaces they could have the camera zoom out a little so you can see the action and the enemies better without all those in your face angles where you can't see anything going on

As I've pointed out from as far back as 3 weeks ago when I had my 4-hour hands-on, the screen sort of makes sense when you look at it: it's a circle. Noctis' skills cover the top part of the circle, Gladio the bottom part, Prompto the left, Ignis the right. I don't think it's going to 'fill in' because the menu is actually a nice thematic design -- the idea is that the four are a part of a greater whole, and so when you look at all four skill trees side by side they form a perfect circle, whereas alone each is only part.

I do think the ring and the phantom swords will unlock some new stuff, but I'm strongly of the belief this skill tree is 'it' for actual skills you spend AP on. There's skill stuff in other areas for each character's special non-battle skills anyway, plus weapon variety, etc. It's more an action game, so there's less skills they can really implement anyway.
I feel like there will be more skill tree options for each character unlocked simply because of the layout. If you took each character's half circle skill tree and put them together to make a circle, there would be overlapping areas all over the place. You could be right, but I don't understand how or why they would opt for that graphic design decision if the point was to show each character as just a section of the circular whole. I feel like if that is what they were going for, they would have just made each of their skill trees a quarter of a larger circle instead of leaving a bunch of empty space in each of their individual skill trees.

I could be wrong, though.

How is it classy world building exactly? Just curious why you think that way.

They've chosen some pretty high-end brands to include, which personally gives me as a player some realistic ground to stand on. That high society in the game world is not too unlikely the upper class in the real one. Like, this is the logical conclusion of a fantasy based on reality, that I could by a megapotion with an American Express card. I dunno, I just think it's pretty neat as long as it doesn't get too "Quantum Break" or "House of Cards"-esque about its product placement.

What did QB do with its product placement?

Weirdly, I can't remember any product placement in Quantum Break (which is the optimum thing for product placement: if it stands out so as to be memorable, it's too much imo) other than the fact that everybody in the world used windows phones.

I don't understand the complaints I've been seeing about your party vs a single boss. I mean, have you played rpg's before?

As long as they keep refining and improving on the technical side of things, this game is turning out to be very promising

What are you doing?

Best use of that GIF I've seen in awhile.

Anyway, man, reading through this thread has me feeling all warm and fuzzy. Been a bit since people have seemed so positive about the game. However it turns out, I'm thinking Tabata made a good call with the delay; seems like this new build is a significant upgrade over what we would have had on the disc.
