Final Fantasy XV - Omen Trailer

Oh my God, people need to get over this "doesn't feel Japanese" bullshit of an excuse, the game is definitely trying to include more Western audience into the series, what is the problem with that? Also, I doubt many people understand what OMEN means, the trailer was not at all a spoiler as none of this happens in game. Your job is prevent it from happening.

I enjoyed the trailer, it was well edited and the song fit the dark tone they were going for. I dare to say that this trailer got me even more hyped than any trailer we've seen from Nomura or any FF trailer for that matter, yes, even the reveal one (despite it still being awesome).

Honestly, all we have ever got from XV up to this point were bad trailers, I am glad we managed to get an actually good trailer for once.
I'm not sure what's "not Japanese" about it.

It's a dreamlike vision of a shirtless anime boy with fancy hair who does kinetic swordplay with a metaphorical animal companion. It's Anime as all hell?

It's just the music, I guess.

You guys don't understand OMEN.

It's a vision from Regis to things that must be avoided. In that trailer, you see what Noctis could become if he was traveling alone in his quest, so that's basically why Regis asks his comrades to follow him at the beginning of the game, to prevent that OMEN.

Glad the homie Noctis aint forgot about guns

Holy shit

FFXV has gone from barely on my radar at the start of October, to being my 2nd most anticipated title of the of the next 6 months.

Can't wait. Going to watch the trailer again

Well that was a great trailer. Now I want a game where it's only Noctis and not his boy band.

And Noctis looks weird without his emo fringe.

That was really cool, but honestly that's the whole problem I'm having with FFXV right now. EVERYTHING from it "looks" absurdly cool but we've yet to see if there's any substance behind it. God I hope so, if there is it might end up becoming one of my favorite games.

Will this be added in the opening, perchance?

I always felt the 3 opening scenes (
older Noct, bye bye King Regis, and car pushing
) were kind of limp. Needed some "cool" to be FF.

The question is, can they be avoided... ;)

But yeah that makes sense. Now that I think about it, maybe it's meant to show what happens if Noctis sets out on his journey alone, since it starts with him driving away from Insomnia by himself.

Edit: Just realized I basically repeated what you already said. The hype is messing with my head. lol

Yeah, I think that's it.

The trailer pretty much tells us why Noct needs his companions.

STOP IT.

Hype Levels have reached critical levels!

That was EASILY one of the best trailers that have been released for this game, on par even with the Versus XIII trailers of pre-2010.

The message is also super clear.

This is a game about bonds. In the trailer Noctis is alone, and goes through a dark path that would eventually cause him to go insane/corrupted. What this trailer does is to emphasize the great importance of Noctis' companions throughout his journey. His friends keep him sane, they give him focus, they help and protect him and make him grow as a person and as a future King.
Without them, Noctis (and the world) would end up badly.

This is obviously the dream Regis had that made him request the Bros to accompany Noctis on his journey. Alone, Noctis simply wouldn't make it while staying sane.

Truly a fantastic trailer with lots of meaning!

Honestly the more I watch it, the more I feel it's a masterwork of a trailer, both in content, overall aesthetic, and implication. It's got so many subtle things that are extremely disconcerting for people who have been following information about the game - the overarching feeling of loneliness portrayed by Noctis travelling alone without the support of his retinue, the chair in Luna's room being overturned, the Regalia being totaled, when you realize that thing in the desert is a boat and the desert is what remains of Altissia, Magitek soldiers using the subway and smartphones and reading a paper like normal people, the Escher-esque construction of the station, Pryna affecting a demonic form and the reversal showing things may not have been as they seemed all along.

It stands in such stark contrast to what the game is all about, yet is given the creative freedom to do what it does when framed as a premonition.

Hmm. Good analysis.

I wouldn't mind if this replaced the Chapter 0 flash-forward completely, while it's not ideal as an opening scene as opposed to a standalone trailer, it'd probably still work better than what's there at the moment.

The king is back! Incredible trailer. This got my hype levels up to max for a minute. Can't wait to finally play this.

He foresaw that noct is a terrible driver too :p

You put all the feelings I had into words and came to a conclusion I didn't even realize I was thinking of.

Absolutely. I was just thinking that. Chapter 0 is cryptic and literally pretentious (it presumes we care about these characters in that state when we don't even know them yet), and doesn't actually inform the narrative.

That or Omen could make for a good in-game flashback as to why King Regis sent Noctis' companions with him.

There's no way it's just promotional material, right?

*Pushes up hipster glasses, twirls wine glass* The feeling of constant, inescapable decay is superbly executed throughout this trailer.

I'm actually serious, though. It was amazing.

Great analysis! I was a bit confused when initially watching the trailer but rewatching it with your analysis in mind helped cleared things up. Also it really puts Regis' "May the Gods forgive me" in a different light, as he's basically defying them so Noctis/Luna won't be sacrificed.
