Finally: Freeloader for Wii

Nice, but I expect this to be blocked in no time flat. Just get the US Wii, it's still the only way to get the superior versions of VC games anyway!

Awesome, I'll be able to play Tales of Symphonia again and not wait fricking ages for Smash Bros. (Side note, do GC games on the wii need a GC controller and a GC memory card? or does it save to the Wii?)

Any place to buy this right now besides Codejunkies/Datel? Don't have a creditcard, but I do have Paypal.

You're basically in the same boat as Kyosuke then, for now. Ask a gaffer if they'll buy it for you if you paypal them the money (me = no go, as I can't currently access my paypal and need real monies :D). Try the buy/sell/trade thread maybe?

Yes you need GCN controller and memory card.

Assuming makes an... Given the disc itself works on all regions is a sign that it does some special which circumvents the normal Wii firmware.

I don't think so, otherwise it wouldn't have said "Any Wii" since they needed a different Freeloader for every region.

o hay guyz

What if the freeloader disc itself is region locked for USA and has no EU date yet? :x
Play ANY region of Wii or GameCube game on ANY Wii.

They sell the same product on their UK and US site, normally they sell different products in each region.

Great news but like some other people in this thread I will be waiting to see if Nintendo gimp it with an update. £10 isn't too expensive though so I wouldn't mind buying it two or three times over my Wii's lifespan since it could save me a lot of money in the long run.

Why are you guys so excited for being able to play import games?
If you live in Europe and know of how useless Nintendo are at getting games out here, then you should be able to understand. What's more, PAL games cost more than NTSC ones.

Seriously, US games are way, way cheaper. I recently imported Phoenix Wright 3, Apollo Justice, and Professor Layton for what came down to an average cost of about 20-22 euro's per game. None of these three games have been released here yet, and if they would have been, they would have cost about 40 euro's in stores. Being able to get the same savings on Wii games would be incredible.

I don't think Nintendo will actively try and stop this. Atleast, I hope not. They could have stopped the GameCube Freeloader pretty easily with a cease and desist letter to Datel, but they didn't. So I have hope.

About the US/PAL Firmware issue - I remember when I was reseaching getting a modchip for imports, people were saying that as long as you had the most recent firmware, it didn't matter. Is this right?

Fantastic news. As an European, I now don't have to wait a billion years for Tales of Symphonia and..................................... SMASH!!!!

The 'GameCube Freeloader for Wii' released a while back was blocked by a firmware update.

-Play local games on your imported console.

This is me! I live in NZ (PAL region) but I have an American Wii for importing the good stuff.

I'd love to be able to get games local here as well though if I saw them cheap or whatever.

Are all the versions the same? Or is there a PAL freeloader and a NTSC freeloader or? Just checking, don't want to order the wrong one lol. :D

YES!

In case any Aussies haven't noticed, the exchange rate is freakin' awesome right now: AUD$1:USD$0.946. I think just yesterday it was $0.92.

I've been wanting to take advantage but there's nothing coming out just right at this minute on 360. However, with this news maybe some Wii games will be a go.

www.cduniverse.com is where I've been getting lots of imports this gen for anyone interested.

Finally!!!
Screw you NoE, if this works you won't see my money for a loooong time.

Also No More Heroes -Blood Version!!!

Someone should just call up Datel and see what the skinny is on this. They can't be that hard to get hold of.

I did actually call Datel last time we were wondering about a Freeloader release.
I probably would have called today to check it out, but we're out of business hours. If no-ones got the info tomorrow, I'll call and see if I can get anything.

I'd like to see it working first before jumping in - as soon as somebody goes 'OMG Smash works on PAL with freeloader', I'm on that bandwagon pronto.
