Fire Emblem Coming To 3DS

One of the screenshots I've seen seems to imply characters can team up to fight together... unless that was a plot section or something. Is that new to the series?
Yep, that's new. My guess is that that's the new support bonus system. Maybe it'll only trigger if the secondary character didn't already attack that turn.

And I for one hope to see a complete overhaul of the whole support concept. It's one of the things that makes FE special, yet it's still built into a very esoteric, grindy system. There needs to at least be some sort of visual cue when two compatible characters are in contact, and if they want to be extra nice, give us a meter or counter we can actually see which indicates how close they are to unlocking a conversation.
Radiant Dawn had a visual cue for when the support bonus triggered and there was nothing grindy about getting the supports. Path of Radiance also didn't have a grindy support system.

The game looks very good but the character designs is poor.

PD: Nephenne is the best

While I prefer the PoR/RD art direction I can't complain about this games look, especially after coming off Shadow Dragon.
Now to patiently wait for this game........URGGH I need this now dammit!

The game could use bird people. I liked all of Radiant Dawn's bird people except Rafiel so that is a pretty good ratio of good bird people.

Ah, I didn't play the Radiants too much. But I really don't remember much attention being brought to it without having to dive into status screens.

So...Chrome (?) seems to fight like Ike, but the other dude appeared to be a merc/hero? Awesome :) As much as liked Ike, I can never forgive him for kicking all the other potential heros from my FE's :(

You know, for being such a big Shining Force fan, I have no idea why I haven't gotten into Fire Emblem. I should probably start sometime.
perhaps with this game

Or, you know...find a Wii and play two most excellent FEs to catch up :)

6 more hours until I can watch the footage...ah well.

The character art does stick out like a sore thumb but I guess 5 years would do that (Radiant Dawn art was done in 2006, DS games were pre-rendered outside of the PR pieces). That said visually Fire Emblem never really was top teir (even in the 90s comment about the games was "graphically its inferior to others in the genre but the gameplay makes up for it") and you'll probably play with animations on map or off (please be map and not bumping into each other) before too long.

Also I'll make the joke, Chrome will be renamed Chroma for the US/EU release to avoid legal issues with Google much like Pant was renamed Pent for dignity reasons.

Now for a point...

This reveal actually kinda gave my interest in 3DS a bit of a boost. What's the deal with the clipping in the 3D segments, though? I mean, the characters' feet are sunken into the ground...
Intelligent Systems are pretty bad when it comes to 3D really. There is hope. Compare the first screenshots of Path of Radiance (they are so bad a few fansites mistake them for the N64 version*) to the released game. Out of battle I mean, in-battle the first screenshots looked like Tales of Symphonia.
*-The N64 version; Maiden of Darkness never saw any official screens released but likely become The Binding Blade/Sword of Seals/Fuuin no Tsurugi on GBA (as that was also initially called Maiden of Darkness).

No more Masamune Shirow characters. I'm sad.

Also, I don't know how anybody can like the GBA's animation. SNES's animation were the best because it actually looked like the characters were fighting, not standing there waiting to be hit or waiting to dodge, at least to the best of the SNES's capabilities anyway.

This is just a 3D version of the SNES FE battles, which automatically makes it better than the GBA stuff.

Yeah, Seisen no Keifu has brilliant sprite animation. Haven't played Thracia 776, but I expect it to be just as nice.

That's very true, they have very little 3D experience in comparison to Nintendo's other 1st party studios.

That being said, this is a massive improvement in terms of visuals over their previous efforts IMO. Looks much better than I would've expected from them.

I guess the main character will be named Krom in the translated version. No way they're using Chrome. The girl with the two ponytails is named "Rizu" (Liz?).

And you guys can have Nephenee. Laura >>> All.

Yeah, Thracia 776 is just like Seisen no Keifu in that regards except with a bit better graphics because the game came later. I highly recommend you play it sometime. Leif's story is great even if it does add a few plot holes.

I still want an English localisation of the second DS game :(

I still hope NoA will change their minds, but maybe NoE will give it a shot and then we can import it at least.

Did NoA ever officially say they weren't bringing over the Fire Emblem 3 remake? If so what was their reason?

Their response is always "no current plans", but that's the standard Nintendo response so it means squat.

The optimist in me wants to believe the game is being saved for a very late DS release, which will lead the way to FE 3DS.

Yes! Loks amazing, much better than the GBA sprites, and thousands of times better than the DS... things. (yeah, 2D>3D, fuck that shit, this looks better).

Anyway this doesn't matter, because the only right way to play FE is to disable all animations and put everything on fast. I don't even know why people complain.

Are we counting remakes as numbered entries now?

Ah well, it's not like Nintendo can count anyway. Mario Kart 7 is the ninth entry in the series.

I think most people number them as they are released. Despite Mystery of the Emblem being a remake + new content, it was still Fire Emblem 3. Fire Emblem Gaiden is considered Fire Emblem 2. Shadow Dragon is considered 11. So... People would logically call this Fire Emblem 13, or just 3DS. It differs depending on where you look and who you ask.

So why wouldn't Shadow Dragon just be 1 then?

Surely any new Fire Emblem would have to be localized for the US in this day and age, right?

...

RIGHT?

I'd be stunned if it isn't localised for the US, especially with the perceived lack of titles on the system.

I'm interested whether it will come to Europe though. FE isn't as big in Europe as NA I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong).

Well...except for Fir :) A lean mean criticalling machine beats a puny healer anytime :)
