Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Official Thread of Greatness

This thread and game reminds me that I need to finish off Path of Radiance. I was doing one mission and I did a wrong move near the end.. Rhys got flogged to the ground and it came up to the last unit to attack him and he had 2 health points left. I've never prayed so much for a dodge to happen in all my Fire Emblem life for that moment.

Alas.. the distaste from that moment still haunts me to this day.

This happens all the time in Fire Emblem...

Really FE needs a baby mode where all the units can be revived or something...

Is this ever expected to get a PAL release? I've started getting into SRPGs more over the last couple of years, but I've still never played a Fire Emblem game. I'd pick this up though.

It's pretty easy, short, and the story and characters weren't up to the series' standards.

Good game regardless, and it's perfect for newbies to the series.

its the first and only one i've played, and i noticed the easy part. i quit halfway through the normal campaign and started over on hard because i was walking right through it.

anyway it should be a good 101 for radiant dawn

Intelligent Systems already have a game like that. It's called the Wars series.

ZING!

You produce units in advance wars.. and in Fire emblem you dont have units but comrades...

huge difference..

Gawd, I can't wait for this game.

Even if you won't play it until next year for the lull between Christmas and Brawl (equally important events) buy it now, to show your support for good games on the Wii!

I usually use the max stats lists as a way of telling if I've been RNG screwed on my first playthrough, like how the first time I played PoR, Ike had seven levels of HP +1 and nothing else, Oscar had two naddas, and Soren? Well, we don't talk about Soren.

Ahh, you should keep on trying :). And try to plan your strategy better next time. Rhys as a priest should always stay on the background, right ? (unless you have promoted him).

I'm new to Fire Emblem, but I just played Jeanne D'Arc on PSP and I might bite on this for more tactical hotness. Do I need/have to play the Cube game first? What's the difficulty like?

storywise.. its pretty much the sequel to FE GC

the difficulty is pretty moderate.. but you loose your companions once they die off.. so sometimes it can be extremely frustrating (for example you have a lev. 20 pegasi knight and suddenly an archer lands a critical strike on you)

Wait, you lose them...for good? They don't come back once you finish the level?

they dont come back once they die .. never ever...

thats the series tradition.. and the reason why this series stayed hardcore for so long despite of its awesomeness ...

(but really its not that difficult since most of your characters will be overpowered very soon)

Just jumping in here to throw some FE love around, and at the same time curse NoE once again.

LOVE LOVE CURSE CURSE

et voila!

Did NoA nerf the difficulty in the US version of RD like they did with the US version of PoR?

If you leave a flying unit within a sniper's attack range, then it's your own goddamned fault.

FE is the only game I need to buy a Wii for.
True story, FE10 was the reason I bought a Wii back in April.

Shame this happens to come out now, I'm too busy with Zack & Wiki, PWAA3, Orange Box, Phantom Hourglass and soon to be Mario Galaxy. I'll buy it to show my support now but I probably won't be playing it till much later.

The US version adds in 16 x 9 support and a feature that lets you save midway during a battle doesn't it? (AN UTTER GODSEND IF TRUE!)

This really is a crime. Why the hell do they have to put so many good games out at a time? This, Assasin's Creed, Mass Effect and the entire list that was mentioned a few posts up just makes me sick.

Seriously, I wish every first party offered up a good SRPG experience to their fanbase. I really give Nintendo credit for supporting the community for as long as they have. They have managed to consistently give a top quality experience with every iteration of the series.

Me too, except I'll only play it until SMG hits and maybe come back to it. Who knows maybe it will hook me maybe not.

Yeah, Sacred Stones doesn't get much love around here. The game is still great, just tried something a bit different with its "choose where you go" structure, and some people cannot try anything that messes with tradition.

I thought some of the music from The Sacred Stones was much better than some in FE7. For instance, the Victory song (usually starts when only one enemy is left) in Sacred Stones is my favorite from all the US releases.

But my favorite Battle Song is, of course, "Clash" from Path of Radiance. I even got a ringtone for it, as nerdy as it sounds. :P

Just sharing some love.
I'm really looking forward to this game even if i will buy Super Mario Gaylax at the same time. Fire Emblem is my fav SRPG series by far.

I just hope we get the maniac mode this time. I own the Japanese version of FE9, and maniac mode in that game is pretty crazy. Enemies outnumber you by ridiculous amounts, and their stats are often on par with your characters or pretty close. Makes you approach the levels completely differently.

Is it true that you can't control the game with the wiimote motion and only the digital D-pad?
Would buy it if you can scroll the map and make selections with your wiimote.
Instant non-buy if only D-pad control.

When to buy this, when to buy this...I mean, if I buy it the day it releases I'll have the desire to play it that very same day, even though I know I'll put it on hold at least until I clear Super Mario Galaxy...shit.

I love this series, but I enjoyed the series more on the GBA more than on the GC. Loved being able to take it anywhere to play it for short bursts.

What the hell, it's square grid-based. D-pad is fine for that. I would never want laggy movement control scrolling. What i could like is icon-based menu and that the game would use the pointer.

So you'd rather press the d-pad 10 times instead of 1 swift move?
The game doesn't use the pointer?

i want the battle scenes turned into waggle mini-games, you know kind of like Sonic Olympics fencing. that would really put the wii to good use!

It sucks that the game doesn't use pointer - lord knows it will work really well to be lazy on the couch.

Oh, the conversation's moved on, but going back to Ilyana. The reason I liked her better than Soren was because of her skill, shade. This skill makes it so she usually only gets attacked if she's the only target an enemy has in range. This makes her easier to use than Soren. I have mist that skill too.

Wow, nice enhancements for the NA release, that's unusual.

I wish Nintendo would spend some money marketing this one. They won't, I'm sure, but if they did, I think they'd have a good chance of hauling in some of the casual 'bandwagon' Final Fantasy fans. You know, the people who buy it because they recognize it from TV and it 'looks cool'. Especially if they did CG-only commercials--the cutscenes look fantastic, I just love that not-quite cell-shaded look. They could get some new blood for this excellent series.

Too bad about no pointer support; I would've thought that's a no-brainer for a grid-based strategy game. But "just" a direct sequel to Path of Radiance is still a wonderful thing.

I don't care that FE Wii doesn't have pointer control, since I'm assuming that means it supports the classic controller.

AGREE'D. Ilyana is one of my main units, I can't say no to that face. :lol
Soren is pretty good, but Ilyana all the way for me. Thunder is also my favorite Magic in FE, and getting Rex Bolt with Ilyana is an accomplishment all on its own.

I don't think I had a favorite character in PoR per se, not like in other Fire Emblem games where I sometimes get attached. I suppose Sothe was kind of neat, and I liked his interaction with Astrid. Oh and Jill's story was cool. I had her kill her own father, that was a very touching moment.

Now, there is one character in Radiant Dawn that I already like very much from what I know, but naming who it is would constitute a spoiler.

my favorite character in PoR was Nephanee, just because she was a kickass fighting machine.

Astrid was a beast in my game. She's so hard to get going at first then BAM!! She becomes so awesome it's not even funny. Her speed was ridiculous and she was really strong too. Nephanee was pretty awesome too.

just coming in quickly to say I approve of this thread and game, although for once I don't think I will have time to dig into this title until a few weeks into the New Year unfortunately
