Im seriously worried about all those playable characters. Im the guy that levels everyone equally which means all the limited xp available is spread leaving me lacking a kick ass fallback character to clear the way when the shit hit the fan.
Fire Emblem games always have characters join you even towards the end. These guys are usually promoted, and have a high level, so the game itself provides you with backups in case some die.
The less characters you use, the better. It's better to have 10 characters at level 20 at the end than 15 characters level 10-15.
I must be an idiot, because I can't pass the first mission (after the prologue). I played both FE on GBA and PoR on GameCube and I don't know what is going on.
I need to escape in 10 turns, I reach the espace points in time but I still read Game Over.
So I have been following this game, and have been getting more interested, but I have never really played and SRPGs, or RPGs in general for that matter. I'm not usually into turn based combat ( I hate Civ) but this seems to flow pretty nicely and have story interwoven. I like epic story, but before this the only real RPGs I have played have been either Zelda ( I know its action but its the closest) or rune factory/harvest moon. Would I enjoy this game?

The simplest thing to do, I'd say, would be to pick up a cheaper copy of Path of Radiance (used, you could probably find it pretty cheap) for the GC and see how much you like it. While I've heard the story isn't as "epic" as Radiant Dawn, or so I hear, it's pretty great. If you like the battle system, you can look in to the Wii game and, considering it's a direct sequel to PoR, you'll be all caught up on the story.
I won't get to play it for awhile, so I'm not sure if spoiling myself even more would be the best thing. I probably will though. Might as well know what units are getting the best outcomes beforehand.
And why don't we have any official RD pics in this topic yet?
Jaggies ! My eyes ! Radiant Dawn is the first Wii game that looks that bad on my LCD HDTV. The animations are a bit better than in PoR thus far. Good, but not great.
The game feels a lot harder than PoR. At first I was careless, because I thought the first few chapters would be a walk in the park, but it's really easy to die. I didn't want my stronger characters to kill ennemies, but then I ended up losing one of my weakest character. You almost have to use
Nolan
and
Sothe
to kill opponents, otherwise you are overwhelmed and your weaker characters like
Micaiah
and
Edward
can't handle many ennemies at the sime time.
Radiant Dawn still feels like a good old Fire Emblem. So far, the environnements are more important. In the first mission,
you need to espace through a small alley. There are barrels limiting your movements, but they you can use them to your advantage against the enemy
. In the second mission,
terrain evelation is finally part of Fire Emblem
.
I'm using the GameCube controller BTW, the Wiimote doesn't work very well and I don't have a Classic Controller.
I you have questions, I will try to answer them, but be aware that even if I love Fire Emblem, I'm not an expert like some people here.
Damn, tomorrow can't come soon enough, I have this game pre-ordered, and I'm about as hyped for it as I am Mario Galaxy... November is nothing but win!!
At first, you can choose Easy or Normal. When you beat normal, you unlock the Hard mode. And according to Gamefaqs, when you beat Hard mode, you unlock Maniac mode.

Slightly off topic, but apparently theres a translated version of The Tear Ring Saga (PSX) out there somewhere. The game was conceived by Fire Emblem creator Shozo Kaga, after he left Intelligent systems and founded his own company. As you can see theres quite a resemblance. Is it any good?
I heard great things about both this, and the PS2 follow-up, Berzwick Saga. But I also heard that both were brutally difficult.
Seems like this particular translation project is currently inactive, with no downloads available. In fact, it seems like this person/group never completed a project. *shrugs*
Most Fire Emblems are NOT sequels of each other. That said, this one for the Wii DOES happen to be a sequel of the GCN game that hit a year or two ago. It would probably be worthwhile to play that one first because a) it's a fucking awesome game and, b) if you clear it, you can use your clear data file on the new game for the Wii for bonuses and data transfer and whatnot.
However, if you opt out of playing the GCN title first, I'm pretty sure that the Wii game is sufficiently stand-alone and should catch you up decently well on the goings-on of 3 years ago (in-game time). You'll just probably miss lots of awesome references.
Yes. But I must say I'm surprised how hard the Normal mode is so far. I'm a FE "veteran", but I already died several times. I try do avoid killing ennemies with my strongest characters, because I want to maximize the experience points I'm getting, but you have to use them if you want to survive. I also made some stupid errors so far.

When you're on the space press A and command the character to escape -- not just stand there.
Btw, did anybody here actually unlock any of the Trial Map characters in Path of Radiance? Did anyone here even play on the trial maps? I tried the one where I was on an island surrounded by crows once -- it was pretty tough.
I haven't, but since I've found out that I can add the support conversations from Path of Radiance into Radiant Dawn's support log I've more incentive to play through Path of Radiance again and perhaps acquire some trial map characters on the way. One more completion will give me Oliver, but that's about 50 hours...

Yep, I did before i lost my data. I got Oliver, Petrine, and Jill's dad. And if you didn't know, you can get new Maps if you have a GBA-GC link cable with a copy of FE7 or FE8. You get their chracter art like that too.
this may be a day 1 purchase for me, or I'll just pick it up next week since I'm pretty busy this week and I'd hate to waste my time getting addicted to yet another awesome FE game.

OUCH! Man that must've sucked. Now especially more considering your unlocked supports could've transferred over to FE10's log.
And yeah, I transferred my GBA data over the GCN one already. I love the inclusion of the GBA art. I've unlocked all 6 trial maps already too. Thanks for the look out though. When you think about it, it's pretty cool how owners of all the FE games get some cool bonuses (although we got shafted on FE6 images).
Which is of the FE9 Trial maps is considered the most difficult btw?
I was fortunate enough to own a GBA-to-GC link cable and all the GBA games, so I too enjoyed the bonuses. However I only ever had time for one playthrough, so that's all I got.
It would suck unbelievably much to get all those other characters only to lose your game data. My condolences GamerSoul. At least you weren't up to Ashnard.
I don't remember any hint, though, but it can't really be anyone else. The thing is, I'll have more time than necessary to think about it before Radiant Dawn arrives here :lol
Weak. I wonder if this hard mode will be equivalent to the Japanese's hard mode or not. In Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, the NA version's difficult was harder than the Japanese's hard but not as tough as their Maniac.
