Firewatch PC performance thread

Did they actually work with the controller to make it native? or you made a preset? I am curious as i would like to use my controller more often. Xcom2 is wonderful with this controller.

The game allows you to mix and match controller options (controller+mouse) without losing controller prompts (just select a controller in the options). Their default config is pretty good, all you really need to do is add gyro.

You can choose between KB, XB, PS, and SC prompts. Pretty cool.

I tried playing with the ps4 controller and as soon as the game starts my character looks straight to the ceiling and the view keeps spinning. Damn, I was really looking forward to digging into this today. hopefully some of these issues can be fixed asap

Not great AA though. It's still pretty jaggy at 1080p.

Unless you're going for robust solutions like those found in CryEngine or UE4, the amount of Aliasing at 1080p is fairly standard.

My suggestion is that you downsample. At 1440p on Ultra Settings I'm perfectly fine at 60fps with a 290. I get something around 70%~80% load on the GPU.

Nothing native. Just used the template I had for the witness. Works with analog and mouse simultaneously too

This happened to me and it got fixed after I quit and restarted the game.

I guess my i7 4770k and GTX 980 should be able to push it at 60fps on 1080p resolution right? Well even it that wouldn't be the case i wouldn't be bothered, i mean do we really nead 60fps on this kind of games?

My game has crashed twice within an hour :/

I like what I've played so will just wait for it to get some patches.

So I just booted the game but I can't get it to display in anything other than 720. It just won't save that setting.

Any ideas? I'm not playing in 720 lol.

Edit: Restarted Steam and it's fine now.

Kinda awful performance on a 280X, just all over the place no matter what I set the game to. And it just doesn't look good enough to warrant this. Damned Unity. And after an hour of gametime it started hitching constantly so I just stopped.

PSA to some people are getting horrible performance, the game may be defaulting to integrated graphics rather than your primary GPU. Everything started running terribly (sub-20 fps), but recovered to a reasonable amount (hovering near 60) when I manually switched it over.

Hmmmm I'm just a bit into day one and I'm having a lot of issues.

Most noticeably, I'm getting a ton of audio drops in my headphones (Audio Technica M50X), particularly when I choose a dialogue option.

I'm definitely getting micro stuttering as well. GTX 970 on an i5-3570k.

I've also had parts of the UI stay on screen. I read a
note
and I couldn't get it to close. Even when I paused the game to quit and restart the note was over top of the menu text.

Unity :(

This is definitely not normal. A 280x should be perfectly fine at 1080.

I played through the whole game at 1440 Ultra on a 290 and it never topped GPU 90% load.

On a laptop?

Also.. how did you switch?

Sustained 23 FPS on a Titan X with Low graphics. I have a feeling that this game hates >60hz monitors or G-Sync or something.

(I don't have integrated graphics)

edit: Confirmed. FPS shot up to 60 when I manually switched my Windows refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz. And then 144hz worked properly. Weird.

edit edit: Game hangs if I try to Quit. Have to force close.

editx3: FOV is a bit low, mouse sensitivity at 100 is still too slow.

Solid 60fps @ 1080p on a 970 playing through my Steam Link, loving it. Had a couple of controller issues with the note reading UI overlapping things. Other than that been it's fine.

I've noticed a few things when playing with a controller:

*I still see mouse/keyboard control icons. Controller icons would be appreciated even if I have to manually enable them.
EDIT: NEVERMIND AOBUT THIS ONE

*I sometimes see my mouse cursor appear in the exact center of the screen during the text sections. It only lasts a split second but it's distracting.

*I'd like a controller sensitivity slider.

Same, I'm using a 970 with a 4790K and I'm not having any issues at all. Butter smooth experience.

Go into controller options and use the drop down menu to switch icons. You get to choose between Xbox/PS/SC/KB.

Thanks. Don't know how I missed it.

The mouse cursor thing still happens after enabling controller inputs, BTW. I'll just use AutoHideMouseCursor.

What kind of CPU and RAM do you have? I played on a 280X on Ultra and didn't notice any hitching or significant frame loss.

Quite surprised with performance on my i5 6600 + 7970 + 16 Gig of ram.

In 1080p high is stable 60fps with very scarce dips 2-3 fps lower. Ultra still mostly hold 60fps too, but with more frequent dips (not really impactful for such slow gameplay so I'll stick to it). Game seems to benefit from better CPU and Ram.

A bit mire annoyed by the Xbox One gamepad issue, moved back to my 360 pad for now.

Running everything on Ultra at 1440p and getting between 60-70fps most of the time.

very occasional dips.

16gb 2400 Mhz Ram

G-Sync

4670K, 8GB not sure which kind right now. It's definitely not 60fps all the time.

I basically have your PC and for me the game runs 60 on high at 1080p but it does drop to 40ish at some points in the hour I played, and it seems to kick my fans into overdrive. Plus the what seems to be Unity Stutter™ that others are reporting as well (although this didn't happen much)

So where do I go for the latest xb1 elite drivers for win7? The left stick keeps inputting left. Also no dpad support.

Weird that my standard xb1 controller has no issues.

EDIT: It's definitely a xb1 wireless dongle issue for me. So I wonder if that's fixable.

Same about the fans. GPU is much quieter on games like Witcher 3 and AC: Syndicate than this...mindboggling.

yup, definitely borderless window here, I had not set G-sync to work with BW, so with v-sync I got quite a bit of stuttering. It was better without V-sync, still not perfect.
Then I enabled G-sync with BW and ta-dan! 70/80 fps smooth as fuck.
Goddamit, i've been rocking this G-sync monitor for nearly 2 years already and how good this tech is still blows my mind sometimes :)

970 is running it fine for me with 1080p 60fps. Had one crash and got stuck in a menu with an xb1 controller.

Love the art style. Probably finish it up later tonight.

so i think i cant use my ds4 with ds4windows

the input map is all messed up, and my character is spinning literally, i can only stop it by shutting down ds4windows and using a logitech f710..

edit : the logitech works fine with gamepad setting..

yay !

Runs at 60fps on my 970 with max settings at 1080p. There's periodic stuttering though. Is there any point in having the crosshair? Can't find the option to disable it.

Unfortunately the periodic stuttering seems intrinsic to Unity. The crosshair is there as a standard practice for people with motion sickness.

Beat it and never really had any performance issues. I have a 980 and was getting +60 fps on ultra 1080p a majority of the time. There are a few instances where it would drop to 40s fps, but it wasn’t a huge deal or anything.

FOV is 55. What the fuck is this garbage?

I tried editing the registry values and anything above 55 has clipping issues. How the hell do you miss such a big thing on the PC. It hurts my head just looking at this FOV.

First impressions are shit, technical-wise.

GTX 780, i5 2500k, 8 GB RAM, normal ass HDD.

Game runs great, solid 60 FPS at 1200p, Ultra settings. The in game AA isn't really too bad since everything is so geometric and clean looking. Not gonna fiddle with anything, this is perfectly acceptable.
